The Grifty Scrap Gals are offering a 15 spot retreat next year in Gatlinburg TN for $450.00! That is for three days and only one of those days involves making a TN and a Junk Journal. Tracie is touting it as a weekend with one day out in the town, one day making stuff and one day nature exploring. Oh yeah, lodging NOT included. Maybe it's the "one in one time" she's advertising that is so costly. Sign up, Sheeple, Sign up!
Seriously though, would you pay that amount for one day with anyone?

Scrappy? No. Some celeb eye candy? Perhaps.

Story Camp with Ali Edwards last week was $599: aliedwards.com/story-camp-2017 plus lodging and two meals per day. Out of my price range...but most scrappy stuff is out of my price range including kit clubs

No way! I could buy the new Cricut Maker with that money, and have some left to buy extra blades and/or accessories.
Or I could buy the Brother Scan n Cut and have even more left over for scrapping stuff.

They were talking about doing something like this a couple of years ago. It also included a stop at that Scrapbook Superstore in Pigeon Forge. This is back when I was a fan and I laughed my ass off at the thought of palling around with the scrap gals and they didn't even mention a price.
I would be hard pressed to spend that kind of money on something like this. I did attend the She Loves Color event last year which was in that price range, I don't remember the exact total but it was for 6 2.5 hour workshops with top names in the industry. I am not such a huge fan of any one person in the industry that I would spend $1000+ when I include travel expenses to hang out with them for a day or two.
ETA...I don't even understand why anyone would pay them to be tour guides! I would maybe pay $50 per class that they are offering but I wouldn't need nor would I want that wrapped up with 2 other days of checking out a touristy town and go on a nature hike (or what ever it is they will be doing).

No - considering how far I have to fly But even if I lived in the USA I wouldn't be motivated to attend.

oh, HECK no!!! That is an outrageous price in my opinion, even if it was someone like Ali Edwards. (maybe I'd pay it if it was with Tim Holtz, but probably not for ANYONE.)

And it’s really not a fly in destination. So chances are if you’re close enough to drive it, you e probably already been and don’t need to do the touristy things. I wouldn’t pay that much. Not for her.

Does that include trips to Cracker Barrel? It should include The Apple Barn. I think that’s the name of the place anyway. I can get CB at home.

We have a fun crop for $85. It is three days long and they bring in an instructor (from California) who teaches a class included with the price of the crop. The class comes with all of the materials and you get three layouts. There is breakfast and one other meal included in those days. The people make sure that the food also comes with gluten free choices. They have give aways and mini classes with techniques all weekend long. There is an awesome hotel across the street for $78 bucks a night (with free breakfast). I go about every three months because the price is great.

Considering the non-crafty events that go with the one day of crafting. Yeah, I would.
I would go stir crazy sitting all 3 days, I like to see new areas with people who has already experienced the sites. Plus it is an area I have always wanted to spend time in vs just driving through it. I would also piggy back the escape with a longer time frame to fufill the rest of my bucket list for that area of the country.

With time to think about it, yes I would spend this for a 3 day weekend away in a certain instance. If all 3 days were planned (and I liked the itinerary) and the cost included admission to any planned outings, it might be fun. I never get a break from being the planner, budgeter, house runner so the thought of three full days where someone else did all the work and all I had to do was show up and enjoy myself would be right up my ally. However, I would only pay for something like this if the person organizing the event was more like a wedding planner.. someone behind the scenes making sure everything went as planned and handled any problems that arose for the group to have a stress free time. As it is...a pay to play event to kiss her ass for 2 out of 3 days and to spend the 3rd being told how grateful I should be for all the "free" stuff I am getting? Hell no!

I would do it if someone paid me $450.
It just goes to show that there is something for everybody in this scrapbooking arena.

I don't get why this costs $450. i go to 3 day crops at my LSS for $60-$90 (1/2 or full table). We get gifts everyday, discounts in the store and use of tools they have on site. They usually supply a dessert each night. They encourage us to bring snacks. I don't see what they are offering is worth that much especially if i have to pay for my own travel, lodging and food. Not to mention they aren't exactly offering knowledge that you'd get from established scrap celebs.

Because she needs to make enough to not have to work until the next event...you know she believes she deserves something for nothing all while making people feel like they should be full of gratitude for getting what they paid for like it was a huge favor. All when it was probably donated and the only one who got it for free was HER.

I just got this from my LSS. And it I thought it was expensive. It doesn't include lodging. As a former Cabrillo College student, Aptos, California is very enticing. But I attend 3 day crops at a Best Western on the Beach in Virginia Beach for $300, lodging included along with 2 breakfasts, one lunch and one dinner. Not sure what the lodging rate is for Aptos but my guess is that people attending already live relatively close by the ocean anyway (right?) As for Tracie's event, that cost seems truly like price gouging. I mean we all know she has the fan base to fill up quickly, and it is always sad to see a heard of sheep fall off a cliff for the wool to be collected and sold at the bottom.

i am so over spending money for celebs.....even for tim holtz (sorry t!m)...when the prices really started going up and up..I come to realize that there is more to scrap booking than being a celeb groupie....no more!! I look back on how much I spent all these years in going to the big events..and for sure it was just not worth it..now I won't even go to the expo or ckc events because the classes are meah....but I do know there are the chosen few out there that can and will spend lots of moola...not me anymore...just call me comfyMcscrooge!
