Paging pea MDs (google-issued medical licenses will work ) I went to the dr today and apparently I have bronchitis, never had that before. Anyhow, he prescribed prednisone and an antibiotic (also have a sinus infection). But I forgot to ask, when I start the prednisone it says to take 6 pills the first two days then taper down....that’s all fine but I forgot to ask if I should take all 6 at once or just 2 or 3 at a time multiple times each day. I need to take it before I leave for work and the office won’t be open to call yet. I’ve been on it before but can’t remember how it was dosed (I do remember getting a lot done during that week though ) Thanks in advance. The check for my copay is in the mail

I think that's one you might want to check with your doctor on. What does your prescription bottle say though? I've had it done both ways when I've been on taper doses of prednisone. I've had take X pills once a day then decreases each day. Another time I took pills morning, noon & night and still tapered down each day. The bottle always said the doctor's instructions.

I would call your pharmacist and ask them to clarify the directions. That's something you don't want to mess up.
Which doctor did you see for this appointment? I'm asking because I've had a sinus infection for over 2 years now-I'm waiting for sinus surgery now to fix it. What I've learned is you can't just pick an antibiotic out of the blue when it comes to a sinus infection. The absolute best way to fight it is to have an ENT doctor take a sample of the sinus fluid by numbing your nasal passages, taking a long Q-tip and putting it up there and to get a sample. He/She will then send it into the lab and find out exactly which antibiotic to use to fight which infection you have.
I wish you the very best of health and quick healing. When I first got my sinus infection I went to my GP and he put me on 4 different antibiotics and nothing worked. Then I saw my allergist (big mistake) and he put me on 4 more. Finally went to see my ENT and he tried 1 more. Now I'm scheduled for the surgery.

What strength are the tablets? 10mg And the script just says: take 6 tabs on day 1 & 2, 5 tabs on days 3 & 4.....etc etc.

I’ve had sinus infections in the past (rarely...once every couple years or so) and they usually clear up with amoxicillin or something similar so hopefully this time will be the same.

Thanks for the sympathy. I've had one sinus infection in the past that cleared right up. This one though-nothing worked. I hope yours clears up too with amoxicillin. Wishing you the best of health!

The first day depends on when you get them. I just finished s six day pack. I took all six at one time day one because I got them at 7:30PM. The package explains how to take the rest.

10mg And the script just says: take 6 tabs on day 1 & 2, 5 tabs on days 3 & 4.....etc etc. That sounds right then. I was just checking in case you had 25mg tabs as then you wouldn't be taking that kind of dose all at once. You would take them all at the same time in that case...I suggest morning as sometimes steroids can affect sleep (as in they can stop you sleeping/make you restless).

There are a few steroids that you take throughout the day, namely Medrol (methylprednisolone) but it's specifically spelled out that way on the package. Most steroid tapers though are taken once daily. Your friendly 2Peas Pharmacist.

I am not a medical professional. But, I have asthma, and have had to go on Prednisone several times. You take the pills all at once each day, whatever is prescribed for each day. Prednisone has side effects for me. I have trouble sleeping, and it just makes me really jittery. I found that using my exercise bike helped a lot when I was in this medication. Hope you are feeling better soon.
