So I cracked my Iphone6plus a couple weeks ago. I have an upgrade due in Feb. I'm not sure i want to fork over the $200 deductible if I'm gonna upgrade soon. Dh got an upgrade now so I took his old phone. I had deleted quite a while ago, much of my phone as it a lot of photos, texts, group texts and things from the month my mom unexpectidly died. The weeks before her death were also lots of drama. Anyway. I had deleted it before my phone cracked, the only message I have saved is the last one from her and the last one from my brother saying he's putting me on a plane I needed to go now. So I have my Dh's phone we cleaned off all the cloud stuff from his and everything was normal till yesterday. I plugged it. It rebooted on it's own and started doing a update. Normally that would be fine, however the only text messages and p hone calls I got on my phone are from Feb 7 (the day we lost Duke) and Feb9 t(the she died) to Feb 22 the day I came home. It even gives me a reminder that I have a flight to catch. I know stuff is stayed on the cloud but I had also been talking to my SIL and my youngest sister and a few others yesterday all of those conversation were gone. It wouldn't be too bad but I had to re add some people I had converstations with in my church that were all gone as well. In fact it didn't even recognize them as new contacts.. SOO weird. Have you had something totally bizarre like that after some one dies or just in general. Dh couldn't figure out what happened to all my current stuff. i sent a picture to my SIL the one i was talking to she says why does it have a feburuary date on it!! There is a logical reason right?

OP I am the least tech person on the board. I have had similar weird electronic events, likewise involving emotionallly tough content- stuff I wanted to keep went poof and stuff I thought I had left behind showed up. It would drive me mad and I am the kind of worrier that would think of little else until I could get a logical reason, EXCEPT for one thing- tech is totally random.
The gurus have the same issues. Glitches are just that. Annoying and hurtful and inconvenient but still glitches.
I hope you recover what you want and are free of what you don't want on your phone. Peace.

I didn't want my sister to be upset about it but she said the same thing totally bizarre! And you too, tough content is hard to get rid of apparently! Hugs for you!

Long story short- I had a 6+ that was all but destroyed. Barely limped along. My son had broken his 5s at his dads house over the summer, so his dad gave him the old phone of (my son's) stepmom. We never activated it on my account because- well. We just didn't (2 months) My son's birthday came up, so I paid the $200 to have my phone replaced. That was his birthday present- a "new" iPhone 6+. I wasn't sure whether I wanted the 8 or the X, and there was a month before the 8 release, so I decided to wipe the stepmom's phone, and use that in the interim. I did a factory reset. Cleared it out 100% pretty much like Asureon wanted me to clear out my phone. And then I started fresh from the "Hello" screen. I started using the phone and the next morning, I was calling my dad to chat on the way to work at 6 Eastern time. Well, I said call Dad, and it did- but MY dad didn't answer! The stepmom's dad did! Poor man lives on the west coast and got woke up by a wrong number at 3 am! I felt terrible! I have all of her contacts, mingled in with mine. It's insane! So, no, it doesn't always wipe clean Unless, you know, you delete the perfect picture accidentally, then it's gone forever!
