We were driving down a heavily wooded 2-lane road going about 45 MPH and a deer ran across the road and hit us giving us no time to react. It tore the driver's side mirror off and made some dents in the door. Sadly the deer died instantly. DH just got back from the dealership ~ $2000 for the stinking mirror. No idea yet how much the body work will be. The guy in the truck behind us couldn't believe how fast it happened. We were a bit surprised that the airbags didn't deploy.

That's awful. ☹️ I live in fear of that happening when I'm out on the highway or on two lane country roads.
Glad you and your DH are both ok.

My uncle had the exact same thing happen this morning driving back from Eureka Spings. In his brand new truck. Over $4000 in damage. Glad everyone was okay, well except the deer.

Glad you’re ok. I hate deer. They are beautiful in the woods, but a menace everywhere else. Hitting one is scary.
In one summer-fall, my grandmother hit 3. Well, she maintained that she hit 1 and the other 2 hit her. This was in the late 70s/early 80s and she had one of those big old Pontiac station wagons. The one she hit messed up the front driver’s corner. The first one that hit her ran itself right into the rear passenger door. Before she could get accident two fixed, one jumped out of the woods and landed right on the passenger side/hood. That one broke my grandpa’s hip. For a long time, he called grandma the Battle Axe in the Battle Wagon.

Yeah, sometimes those damn deer seem suicidal. I hit one on Memorial Day weekend on the highway and never saw it, so I was going all of 70 mph and probably faster. Ended up totalling out the vehicle, but I have to give mad props to my late, great Ford Freestyle. Barely felt anything inside the car. No airbag deployment, either.

What a bummer! I’m sorry about your vehicle but glad you’re okay. I live in fear of that where I live too, there are tons of them here in our neighborhood.

Oh no, Joy. I'm so sorry. You're likely a bit shocked. Please take good, loving care of yourself. It sucks that the dealer is charging an astronomical price for your car. ((((HUGS)))).

I hit one going 65mph on the NYS Thruway last year. 4500K in damage and like you, I was surprised that the airbag didn't deploy.

the deer are sure on the move
always watch for the second deer
when we drive i scan the ditch lines (if i'm not driving) - watching for our headlights to pick up their glowy eyes
we have a bunch of deer that hang out here and they cross the road every day - i keep hoping they make it

There are a lot of dead deer right now on the roadsides where I live. I hate driving at night because I'm always worried about exactly what happened to you. $2,000 for a mirror is a lot more than I would have guessed. I'm glad you are ok.

Did you hit the deer with the front of the car? If not, the airbags wouldn't deploy (at least that is my understanding). I'm not sure how hard you have to be hit for side impact airbags to deploy. Anyway, I'm glad you are both ok!

We got one 2 weeks ago. We saw her and slowed to about 45 from 70 and ended up with 5500 in damage and then realized they missed the head shaped Dent in the hood and am in a rental again.
Since then we've come to a screeching halt 3 more times.
Once on a back road in a rental, two nights later the biggest bucket I've ever seen was standing in the road over a pop up hill and I missed him by swerving I to the ditch and last night we skidded to a stop inches away from hitting a doe in the mini.
They seem worse the ever this year. It's terrifying.
So glad yall are ok!

It sounds funny to me that you say a deer hit you. Was it the other way around? You hit the deer that ran in your way?
Glad you are safe.

Yeah, I am glad you and DH weren't injured. It could have been a LOT worse.
My DS just hit a fawn this spring. The thing just darted out in front of him and well it went splat. If you want the upside there were plenty more where he/she came from. Our local doe had twins and they were seen all summer long.
I hope your evening gets better!

That is awful! Dh had an owl fly into his truck on the freeway early one morning. It broke the lens cover and headlight. That cost some $$

I'm glad you are okay! I just got home from a trip to visit my sister, who was in a bad car accident this week. On the way there, I noticed so many dead deer on the side of the interstate. There seemed to be one every couple of miles. I left her earlier than I really wanted to so that I could be home before dark.

Anyway, I'm glad you are both ok! He hit the driver's side mirror and door. I thought maybe the side-airbags would deploy. Since we were okay I'm glad they didn't deploy.
