I really love their aesthetic and keep thinking of subscribing again, but I hate the character themes. felicityjane.com/collectionsEach kit is named after (and includes die cuts of) a 20-something, thin, white, woman every month. The homogeneity *really* bothers me. I don't want product of only young, thin, white women (none of which I am). I also just hate the idea of giving my money to a company who seems to have such a narrow world view. Like really?? It could be such a cool idea with characters with different body types, ethnicities, etc. Maybe a character in a wheelchair or doing a sport, or or or. ugh. End rant.

It is pretty insensitive and tone-deaf in today's woke world. There are enough companies advertising in similar fashion but embracing different ethnicities, body types, ages, stereotypically and non-stereotypically feminine hobbies to promote their brand. I'm surprised she's been rehashing the same formulaic pretty white young lady over and over again...
I don't buy or sub to FJ though so I'm not able to put my money where my mouth is in this particular case. I'd encourage reaching out and letting her know that the real world is made up of other women than imaginary 20-something white girls with a penchant for flowery dresses.

I never really thought of it like that
I dislike the girls in the kits
However as an overweight person I certainly would not want an overweight character any more than a slim one
I just think they are redundant, they go straight into my bin every month

To be honest, I had never really thought of it like that either. I feel like those girls are just such a small portion of the kit that I don't even really pay much attention to them. I've never used one on a scrapbook page. But I do get what you are saying and if she's going to continue including them some variety would certainly be nice. Personally I think she should just stop doing it, but now that she's making stamps for them I doubt she will.
I just recently subbed again and what irks me more than anything is the one sneak of the papers and no other sneaks until it's revealed on the first. I would really like to be excited about getting the kits and it's nice to see some close ups of the things we will get. So I check every day after the 25th and there's nothing new to see. That irritates me.

These paper doll things really turn me off. I think FJ has peaked and is on its way down. Nothing about the kits are as special as they used to be and everything is just so repetitive.

I've never been a subscriber but I have picked up packs of the patterned papers, die cuts and stamp sets (the words/phrases) many times in the past. I can't tell you the last time I shopped there. Maybe 5 - 6 months ago? Like others have said there's just too much repetition. chances, thank you for saying this. I've been bothered by the lack of diversity, too.

I agree about the lack of sneaks
I also think the wow factor is gone

I hate those stupid dolls. Like, really hate them. I don't understand the point of them. Who honestly uses them in their scrapbooks?! I feel like they are such a waste of time and energy for her to produce, and therefore a waste of money for me. I just stopped subbing, and that was a huge part of why. Another reason was the lack of all the little bits and pieces that used to make the kits so special. The sequins, pillow boxes full of ribbon or string, tags, all the sweet little extras that made making a page super fun. They are all gone. Eta: someone should really send this thread to her so she is aware of what's going on. Maybe it's mean, but it's also honest.

I also stopped my sub for the lack of variety in the kits, the dumb dolls and the fact that she just doesn't seem to be able to change up the color pallet. Though my biggest complaint and the reason I refuse to do business with her is that she doesn't *really* listen to her customers. That just irritates the living daylights out of me. She has good customer service if you contact her about something but it frustrates me that she completely ignores the questions about her late Dec Daily kits or the colors or or or...I don't do business where I don't feel appreciated and ignoring issues is huge for me. I'd accept an answer I didn't like a 1000x times over silence.

I stopped my sub a couple months ago, partly due to this, partly due to having too much stuff I need to use.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I probably will email her with my perspective. Businesses can't address feedback if they dont get any. I'm just shocked that no one in the production process has said "wait a minute..."
I haven't subbed for about a year. That's disappointing to gear the special extras are gone. That adds to my resolve not to sub.

I understand where she is coming from with the age and thin... just like a magazine, companies tend to use young, thin women to display their products as models... I don't ever think of models as supposed to embody the normal person, but rather an idealized image of one? But the lack of diversity doesn't make sense... there are lots of gorgeous models of all ethnicities... so it really doesn't make sense to make them all white.
I also don't care for the dolls. I only pick up a kit here and there and have never used the dolls for anything and think they are dumb. I do get her idea of designing a kit around a "girl" and using that to name the kit. That is fine to me... but no need to include the girl in the kit since no one is putting that in their album.

I completely agree with everything. The inclusion of having a “girl” diecut doesn’t bother me too much, as it’s only one diecut I throw out, in a pack of many, but I do wish there was more diversity in them. The scrapbooking world is not all white women.
When she announced she was going to start making stamps of the girl, I rolled my eyes. I wish her all the best but I hope those girl stamps aren’t selling, so it will open her eyes on how ridiculous they are.
I think the idea of the kit based around a styled woman is interesting and unique, but I feel the execution is being handled poorly.
Hell, if there was more diversity in the girls, I might actually start including them. Right now, I’m with everyone else and just toss them each month.
If the girl stamps ever become a part of the kit, I’m done with FJ.

I was late to the game finding Felicity Jane and I scrambled to buy as many older kits as I could find because I loved the black and white and pops of color. I was ready to sink most of my scrapping budget into FJ going forward, but since the focus changed to the girl theme, I stopped buying the kits entirely. It's not just the girl stuff, for me the designs lack the excitement and visual interest they used to have. Sometimes I'll pick up a package of paper or a cool embellishment (loved the super tiny paper clips), but that's it other than the very high quality traveler's notebooks. I still feel the paper in the FJ TNs is the best I've found online. I admit that I check each month hoping the kits swing back to the way they were before...

chances, I think you bring up a very important point and, paperamy, I agree with you. I think it's kind of cute to give a kit a name and a "personality" but, yeah, diversity is so important and so beautiful, that it seems so silly and limiting to focus on essentially one, non-representative depiction.

Have to admit I never really thought of it that way - the dolls just seem really childish and useless to me. Putting one in a kit - maybe - but it's not something I'm interested in month after month and no way do I want a stamp to go with it!

Ah, you reminded me that I do still love some of her cool embellishments, especially the alphas. I think that they are some of the best alphas out there, and will try to pick them up when they go on sale. They are gorgeous, but at $7 or $8 each, they are too much of a splurge at full retail price.

I pick up kits here and there because a lot are beautiful but I have never subscribed because they don't have the embellishments that they used to and although I've loved a lot of them, I could see myself getting bored really quickly because they have the same basic look/contents. Also, I am not really a stamper and don't want a stamp every month.

They don't have the same wow factor and elegance for me they used to have

I thought the exact same thing and mentioned it on some other thread few days ago. I can not relate to any of those characters. Same is trend right now with the planner society and ellen hutson stamps by Brandi. Companies should either offer more versatile/different characters or not offer it at all. It really annoys me and I am glad I am not the only one who thinks that. SaveSave

I don't subscribe to the kits and haven't for over a year. I really think she needs to know how her customer base feels about the paper dolls. I have yet to see anyone, other than DT members, who like/use them. And, some of the DT don't use them. I agree with whoever it was that posted they are a waste of time. I wouldn't use them and would throw them away just like everyone else. It reminds me too much of the stamp company (can't remember the name) that does the paper doll stamps. I don't think those stamps are very popular either. And, I don't know why, but it reminds me of paper piecing which is long past. I think maybe some scrappers still do it and that's fine, but the majority don't, so why put something in a kit that no one really cares for? If I were a subscriber, I would try to figure out a way to send this thread to her. I really think she needs to know because I also know from another message board, that those subscribers have quit subscribing.

I actually don’t mind the girls bc I was hoping to pick up the ones that remind me of my girls. Other than the thin size of the FJ girls, I feel like each one has a very different vibe/personality. Now, I am not a thin, white woman, but I don’t mind their skin color. I guess I never assumed their ethnicity bc they have no coloring, not peach, not tan, absolutely no skin color other than the pink on their cheeks). I have been waiting for a sale to pick up a few of the girl stamps—the ones that remind me most of my 2 daughters (I can color their skin and hair myself). I am just matching them to my girls based on hair texture, hair style, and clothing style. I guess it’s just one of those “eye of the beholder” things.

I have three daughters and love using the girls and the girl stamps on their scrapbook pages, so feel free to send any unwanted ones my way, lol! I have only just started subscribing as I wasn't much of a stamper and didn't want to get stamps every month. My new planner obsession has me loving the stamps they include, so I have treated myself to a sub. As a newbie to FJ i can't compare quality and designs, but I do like the fact that I can use the papers with other kits as they are very similar. This is a bonus for me, but obviously not for everyone. The great thing about a board like this is that we are all seeing things with different viewpoints. Love reading the opinions- always food for thought. SaveSave

kiwikate, I stopped subbing back in April (?) so I don't have many girls either I am hoping for a good BF sale to pick up some things. Is there a certain girl you are looking for? Doubt I will use the girl die cuts...I want the stamps (waiting for a good sale), so I can make them suit my needs.
