I wanted to wash a load of clothes before bed. I put my load in the washer and went to do a walk thru to be sure there was nothing else I was missing that I wanted in this load. Little did I know I would be having the laugh of the month tonight. I threw one more article in, shut the door, added the detergent and hit start. I returned to my bedroom to kill a little time watching tv. I heard the cat do this strange meow. I heard it again which prompted me to get up to see what was the matter. I could see an upside down cat in a running washing machine. I opened the door without hitting stop and a soaked cat jumped out and ran for her life. I had to dig her out from under the couch to dry her off. I laughed so hard at this crazy cat. As a matter of fact she keeps me laughing, she has so much personality. She smells like Gain

Poor thing. I feel so bad. She probably hates me. She is as clean as she is going to be tonight. I feel that I’ve traumatized her enough

I'm surprised you heard her from inside the washer! ![](http://i1168.photobucket.com/albums/r481/2peasrefugees/Smilies/shocked.jpg.gif)

Better/cleaner story than mine.
We were recently out of town for a few days, left plenty of food, etc and a CLEAN litter box.
We also left the washer open to dry out.
Came home and there was cat poop in the washer.
At least it was dried out and easy to remove. (TMI)

This made me LOL! Sorry for your poor kitty, but I have a hilarious mental image of the cat in a running washer.
ETA: cat in the wash machine made me LOL, not cat poop in the washer...that's just ewwww! (sorry you had to deal with that)

That didn't make me laugh because it's my worst nightmare. I make everyone in the house be absolutely sure there are no cats in the washer or dryer before running it. My aunt's cat died that way and her story traumatized me. And once, one of our cats climbed in the warm dryer when someone was distracted. I didn't check, just saw the open dryer door and closed it. Thank God I didn't hit run--we found the cat in there the next day. He was ok but of course had peed on the towels in there.
I've caught the kittens trying to climb in the warm dryer and now I never shut it without checking, I'm so paranoid! I'm so glad your cat is OK!

I don't think it's funny either. I'm in a Devon Rex group on Facebook and just a couple of weeks ago one of the members found her cat dead in the washing machine - she obviously didn't hear him and she found his body when she was taking the clothes out.
Hopefully the cat is OK...but I'd be taking mine to the vet to make sure, seems almost impossible that it wouldn't have inhaled any water while in there. Respiratory complications such as pulmonary oedema or pneumonia are still possibilities.

She seems to be ok, nothing is out of sorts and is in bed snuggling with me now. I will continue to keep an eye on her. I’ve had dogs my entire life, this is my first cat. So I’m still learning their behavior. I will definitely make sure of her location from now on before starting the wash.

Glad that your cat seems OK and you caught her in time! Cats seem to like the smell of laundry, don't they? Either freshly washed or dirty--my cats usually dig in my dirty laundry when I sort them for washing ![](http://i1168.photobucket.com/albums/r481/2peasrefugees/Smilies/laugh.jpg.gif)

That didn't make me laugh because it's my worst nightmare. That's one of my worst fears, too, next to one of the cats sneaking out the door to the garage underneath my feet. I leave the door to the (front-loading) washer open so it will dry out, but I put the fabric softener jug in front of it to keep it closed enough so the cats can't get into it. Our laundry room is off the garage and the door is kept closed, so I would NOT have heard them. I'm glad your cat is okay!!

This is one of my biggest fears also. A relative accidentally killed her daughter's beautiful Siamese cat. I am so glad you heard your cat and could save her. I would take her to the vet for a look over to be safe.

I'm glad your cat is ok. To be honest, I'm horrified that you thought this was funny. This could have had a very tragic outcome.

I did that once when I was in high school. I put half my clothes in, went and got more, dumped that pile in and put in the detergent. Closed the lid and started it. About 10 minutes later, I walked back in the laundry room and my poor cat was clawing his way out of the washer. He ran off and hid. But he survived.
