Hmm. I swaddled my baby for the first 4 months or so, and then started using a sleep sack. She's 7 months now and still uses her sleep sack at bedtime and naptime. I'm not sure why Dr. Karp is so against them...the other alternative, a blanket, is even less safe. Also a nice little plug for his new bassinet there at the end.

I wish I could back in time and mail him my daughter!
We did everything and nothing made her sleep except exhaustion. Even that didn't work.

My youngest slept in the swaddle till at least 6 months and then we switched him to a sleep sack. He is 19 months old and still in a sleep sack for nap time and bedtime. My 4-year-old slept in a sleep sack till he was 2. He loved his sack and was very sad when he outgrew them.

For me, bottle feeding with rice flakes added was all I needed. My kids slept 13 hours a night and usually took 3-4 hour naps in the afternoon (until they turned five).. I didn't have a quiet house. They slept through garage doors, barking dogs, and doorbells. They went to sleep with music. The first one classical and the second one mostly Garth Brooks. (The Garth Brooks baby is reallllly smart.). My kids slept in their own room by day three and when they cried they were changed, cuddled for a bit and put back down. I didn't follow many of the recommended ideas from the experts. I had to work at 7 each morning and was exhausted. The babies had to fit into my schedule. I didn't stress it and they turned out to be great kids who still sleep well. I don't buy myths or must do programs. I did what worked for me and thank God they went along for the ride. Now potty training took a bit longer.

I think God knew I wasn't sure about having kids in the first place. I was not a natural mom. I gave my first kid 56 ounces a day because he kept crying. He had colic. I liked them much better when they turned three.
