Halloween is my second favorite holiday to decorate for, Christmas number one.
There is only one other house in my neighborhood that decorates other than the inflatable figures. Floating candles in my tree's, lava in my flower beds, rolling fog and creepy skeletons laying in my yard, glowing eyes here and there. I try to add or make something every year, but take something out to keep me interested.
I gave out 10 bags of candy from Sams. A church in my neighborhood organized a golf cart convoy. Plus, tons of kids in my neighborhood.

please consider donating them instead - food items that are bought and then returned can not be resold and are destroyed as damaged items Why are they destroyed if they are sealed up and unopened? Because they can't guarantee that the food hasn't been tampered with in some way. A needle syringe hole isn't that big, maybe undetectable. Jennifer

My kids are grown. DD lives out of town on her own. DS is away at college. When they were younger we used to get over 100 TOTers. Last night I had 7. I feel kind of sad. I am not sure if it is because the demographic of the neighborhood has changed or if people are not taking their children out trick or treating anymore.

My kid is the one that whoops and hollars over a full-size candy bar and will tell every kid he passes which house is giving them out.
I only had 6 knocks on my door. 5 little groups and one HUGE group. Probably 30 kids. It made it hard to see their costumes and to ask them about the costume etc. But, they were cute and abundantly polite.
Our neighborhood used to hop at Halloween, not so much anymore. Makes me sad.

I am not sure if it is because the demographic of the neighborhood has changed or if people are not taking their children out trick or treating anymore. that definitely happens. When my parents bought their current house over 25 years ago the neighborhood was aging, and it was pretty quiet on Halloween. Now, it's completely turned around with young families and at Christmas the street turns into an unofficial Candy Cane lane. She had about a 100 TOTers. I talked to her last night and she just loves kids so she was having a lot of fun handing out candy and Capri Sun juice bags. I know we saw a number of houses where it looks like families (grandparents, etc) or even groups of friends (older, retired age) all came over to hang out in the garage to watch the fun together. Maybe next you can reach out to some friends who live in a busier neighborhood. I would be a little bummed too!

I love Halloween! We're the house with the fire pit in the driveway and beers in the cooler for the parents.
Everyone was so polite and I agree with the other PP's who said that the number of "thank you's" were way higher than normal. So refreshing to hear.

I am not sure if it is because the demographic of the neighborhood has changed or if people are not taking their children out trick or treating anymore. We had about 1/4 fewer kids last night compared to previous years, and Iām sure it had everything to do with how cold it was (mid 20ās). I would say that most of the kids that came through were mid- to older elementary and middle school aged kids. Even DH noted it when he was taking our DD and her friends from the neighborhood around. It was simply too cold for people to take their littler ones out, so they either stayed home or took them TOTing indoors at the mall. My DD is 7 and in the five years weāve lived here it has been freakishly cold almost every year on Halloween! I donāt know what the deal is with that, but I donāt remember it *ever* being cold like that when I was a kid. I made most of my own costumes growing up, and I would have frozen to death in weather like that in most of my costumes. LOL, DH has commented that next year she should dress up as a snowmobiler!

I was sad, because we only had one trick or treater. He was an awesome dracula, though! I now have 26 full sized candy bars in my kitchen. DH and I split one, and I gave 2 to the HVAC guy who came to give us a quote this morning.
OP, your daughter should have come here -- I'd have given her 20 if she asked!

I thought I bought plenty of full size bars. Well, I couldnāt help but eat a few. Around 7 the Bowl was running low,. I looked over the pantry and decided to put some packets of oatmeal in, just to give the bowl some volume. Some kids thought it weird, but others shrieked in delight to find and choose oatmeal! I guess we are now the oatmeal house.

We had a good Halloween. Over a two hour period, we had about 50 or so trick or treaters. They were all wearing costumes and were all polite.

The kids were *so excited* over the Pringles!

I dearly miss handing out candy and getting to see the costumes! We never get any trick or treaters because we love on a busy street with no sidewalk. Next time I move I want it to be in a neighborhood where everyone goes all out with the fun.

Edited to add...DD breaks out in song.. "Hallelujah!" every time they get passed a full sized candy bar, and it always cracks up the people handing them out. She truly belts it out at the top of her lungs with glee! She earns that candy, I hand out full size candy bars, and I loooove the reactions from kids over that. Some donāt even notice, some just look at it with confusion, while others say āawesomeā or āthose are hugeā! We doo too. One little boy asked us if he gets the whole bag of skittles. He was so cute. We only had about 50 kids so I probably have 50ish leftover. 2 preteen boys came up at the end and as they walked away one said to the other āI told you we should go to that house.ā

DS handed out candy for us this year. every few minutes he would yell "mom...come see this one." He got such a kick out of the kids and their costumes. (I do too) I don't care if the kid is a baby or an almost adult high schooler...they get candy.

I woke up yesterday to wet slushy snow everywhere. It was sleeting and miserable. I have to stand on my front porch because of my dog and I honestly thought no way was I doing it in that weather. Well it cleared up and all the slush melted. It was cold, cold, cold. But I had about 30 trick-or-treaters last night. It is really sad to me how many of my neighbors don't hand out candy. I gave candy out in handfuls. The only thing that makes me sad is that it was so cold most of the kids had winter coats on. It was hard to see costumes. Halloween in Michigan, you just never know what kind of weather you are going to get.

decided to put some packets of oatmeal Too funny! I had chocolate candy bars this year and this adorable little princess, probably 3 or 4 was happy to take a candy bar, but when she got to the next house I heard her yell at the top of her lungs, "Lollipops! Mom! I love lollipops!!" Too funny.

It was a wonderful night. Freezing, but wonderful! My kids are so packed down with š . We could eat 5 pieces a day (each) and it would last until next Halloween. I think I will be donating to the troops.
Iām sad to take down my decorations. It is my favorite holiday and I love my ghosts, spiders, pumpkins and lights. Everyone on FB has moved onto Christmas! Iām not quite there yet!

I love handing out candy to the TOT! Doesn't matter if they are small or big. If they're happy collecting candy, I will give it to them we had close to 200 kids I bet, and not once was I bothered by needing to go to the door. It was cold here (maybe only 35 degrees) but not windy or raining. The littles are so cute dressed up, their parents are excited to show them off, and the teens are just out to hold on to childhood and get free candy. I'd almost rather give the candy to the older kids because they will eat it (or trade for better), but the little kids will have it taken away by their parents (boo!)

I was in an apartment last year...no trick or treaters. I thoroughly enjoyed handing out candy and dealing with the kids in my new neighborhood.
My cat however, not so much a fan. I thought Iād have to lock her up to keep her from darting outside. Nope. After about the 4th round of slinking away from the door, she stayed upstairs until it was over.š

I just want to give a shout out to all those of you who bought candy, and got up and down all night from your tv watching (the game!) to help make our kid's Halloween so awesome. The decorations, the lights that you strung, holding down your yapping dog, truly a neighborly act of kindness you did. Thank you for sitting out with your blanket and your cups of coffee with your next door neighbors, bonding with your community. Praising our kid's costumes and wishing them a Happy Halloween. Thanks to the family at that one house every year for having the Dodger game on in the garage and offering us parents a nice shot of Fireball if we wanted one. Just a great night. I most appreciate the older folks, whose kids have long grown out of the TOT years, but still obviously get great enjoyment from handing out the candy still. Gives my heart a tug. Thank you. Thank you. What a great neighborhood!!!

I love Halloween, I love dressing up, I love trick-or-treating! I loved those things when I was a kid and I still LOVE them as an adult with my own 3 children! It makes me so, so happy and it's something that is just GOOD. I'm also thankful for all of you who handed out candy and told my kids that their costumes were cute. It may seem silly, but Halloween fills me with JOY!

I sat my ass out on the front porch to avoid having to jump up and down and answer the door. One toddler still insisted on ringing the doorbell, though. I don't have kids but I love Halloween, love talking to the kids, asking them about their costumes, all of it. They're almost all incredibly polite and friendly. (Even the very few who don't say "thank you" usually just forget because they're excited and caught up in the candy frenzy.) One girl last night gave me and my husband little Happy Halloween wishes she had drawn on notebook paper and carefully folded up--never had that happen before!
