Were planning a short trip to Nashville in the middle of December for a concert Saturday and Sunday night. Hoping to just stay downtown by the venue so I don't have to rent a car. What are your must see things and how long would you say is enough time to stay? I'm thinking arrive Friday morning and leave Monday morning but some friends want to fly in Saturday afternoon and leave Monday morning. Advice and opinions are appreciated.

I would do Friday to Monday. I adore Nashville.
We eat at Jacks BBQ, demos Italian, biscuit love, and Las paletas. A stop at the cupcake atm always makes me smile. We also try new places each time and use yelp to find the best reviews.
We usually just roam Broadway. Usually we spend a ton of time at honky tonk central, but we pop in and out of everywhere. I love that you can find a band you like and then find another.

We also enjoyed just roaming Broadway. Love that there is no cover to hear the bands, so you can pop in and out to find one you really like.
We enjoyed the soul brunch at Acme on Sunday.

I would say the Opryland Hotel since it will probably be spectacular at Christmas, but yeah it's not downtown.
Ryman Auditorium..

I enjoyed brunch at Acme. Tried sweet potato fries with maple syrup on the side to dip them in and loved it. They have live music at brunch too.

You won't need a car...easy to Uber or get a taxi service here and then you won't have to pay $$ for parking at your hotel. There are tons of bars. Try the Patterson House for cocktails if you have time and a little extra cash. You may run into a famous face or two. I don't go there, but I work with doctors and other nurses that do and seem to like the vibe there. Nashville is a food town, so you'll find plenty of places to eat and you won't leave hungry. Hope you enjoy your trip here!
P.S. We're going to check out Rudy's Jazz Room in the Gulch for our next date night. I've heard really fantastic reviews and I almost kept it to myself because it may not be your cup of tea.

Garth Brooks concert?
When I saw that, we so wanted to go, but we will be in Nashville for the Jimmy Buffet Concert New Years Eve, so we cant swing two trips that close together. We are also skipping the rental this time and using Uber since we will wont be there long.
Thank you for all the ideas everyone.
Last time we were in Nashville was for the Garth Concert he did for flood relief in 2010. It was a great time then, I can imagine its only gotten better! We had a car, so we did a lot of stuff during the day away from downtown, like Opry, the Parthenon, Arrington Vineyards (Kix Brooks, owns) and stopped in at Antique Archaeology too.

We were there about a year ago, stayed downtown and did the tourist things, Country Music Hall of Fame with Studio B was a whole day--really good.
Walked around the honky tonks.
Felt like I was in my 20's. Went to a bunch (too many lol) dive bars, had too much cheap wine from plastic cups, danced to live music playing old Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard type songs!
Don't need a car downtown.
