Buzzfeed story led to calls for divestment in Renaissance Technologies Hedge Fund. Mercer stepped down today. Activism works - it always has. It's just that we didn't use it enough. I think millions of women and men in pink hats and carrying signs last January have stayed engaged, paid attention, made calls. It feels like people are finally pushing back against the billionaires who want to keep running the world behind the scenes.

ps - Mercer, Trump and "influencing" the IRS " The Internal Revenue Service is demanding a whopping $7 billion or more in back taxes from the world’s most profitable hedge fund, whose boss’s wealth and cyber savvy helped Donald Trump pole-vault into the White House. Suddenly, the government’s seven-year pursuit of Renaissance Technologies LLC is blanketed in political intrigue, now that the hedge fund’s reclusive, anti-establishment co-chief executive, Robert Mercer, has morphed into a political force who might be owed a big presidential favor." www.mcclatchydc.com/news/politics-government/article147454324.html"In 2010, the IRS found that the hedge fund has been using a tax-avoidance scheme, and ever since, the Mercer’s have been doing their damnedest to get IRS Commissioner John Koskinen fired, saying the fund did nothing illegal. Koskinen, for his part, has showed no signs of backing down, and legal proceedings in the case are ongoing. Koskinen’s term, however, is up this month, and President Trump has already named a replacement many believe “could lead to a massive payback” for Mercer." www.deathandtaxesmag.com/350585/robert-mercer-steps-down-sells-breitbart-shares-irs/
