Most of my posts lately have been vents or asking for prayers. Finally...a good one...LOL. My little guy (no so little anymore at almost 9 years old) is Autistic and is quite a hoarder. It's been a dilemma we've dealing with for quite a few years. His room is basically a disaster and I try to keep up with it, but with so much stuff and my not so great health it's been hard. Finally last week I made a deal with him and told him he had to let me have complete reign on what to keep and what to get rid of. He gave me a small list of the things he would definitely want to keep and is letting the rest up to me. i started working on it today and he has not once stepped in or gone through the trash bags. So proud of him!! I know this is a big step for him and it has to be hard for him to relinquish control, but he's doing a great job of it.

These little guys struggle with giving up anything!
Well done mum your negotiating skills must be first class. Hopefully he will not need 'another collecting'.
Huge moment - I get it.

Any reward for him in your deal?? So happy he's letting you do this. Oh yes! LOL. He loves to build forts and always wants them in the living room on the weekends and then fights Monday when it's time to take them down. I promised him a fort in his room that only has to come down on the days we clean his room to wash the dust off the sheets. He is really looking forward to it.

Great job on finding something that meant enough to him to relinquish some of his other "treasures".

That's huge! My daughter with Autism has those tendencies. I am impressed with your son looking at the camera and smiling! I get few of those with my son.

He's so used to having a camera in his face...LOL. But only myself or DH can take his picture. Anyone else he will usually turn away from. He has a social phobia too so isn't too keen on other people in general. We have very few family pictures. Now a days I have to set up the camera on a tripod with a timer for us all to be in the same picture.

I think the trade-off of getting rid of hoarded stuff to make room for a fort is brilliant. And a win for both of you. Nice work!

He's so used to having a camera in his face...LOL. Same with mine and almost every time the look on his face is "You're an asshole".

I can't get candid pictures of them, as soon as they see the camera out they stop and pose. Sometimes I just want a picture of them engrossed in what they are doing...LOL.
