We need to replace our old Christmas tree. Lately, the flocked trees are getting my attention. But are they just a fad, or are they timeless? Because if I'm going to have a tree for maybe 10 years, I don't want it to go out of style in a year. What do you all have?

What is a flocked tree

Maybe they make them different now, but I would hate all that snowy junk flaking off so I voted plain green.

The ones with the white snowy stuff sprayed on them.

I needed a new tree last year and couldn’t bring myself to commit to a flocked tree which is what I was drawn to. I ended up buying a traditional green tree but then bought flocked evergreen picks at 50% off at Michaels and stuck them all over in the tree and ta-da! I have a faux flocked tree! I figure if I get tired of the flocked look then no big deal, I just won’t use the evergreen picks. I bought 30 or 40 of them to get the look as my tree is 9 feet tall.

They do make them different so they don't shed everywhere. I can't wait to get a new tree. The new ones are lighter and you don't have to plug in the pieces together to light up. You just snap together and they light up!

IMHO they are a fad. And yes, they still shed, though it is supposed to be better than before. I *might* buy one if I found one for a steal, but otherwise I am sicking with the traditional style.

I like this idea if you like a flocked tree. I wouldn’t ever be able to commit to a flocked tree either no matter how nice it looked. I’d be afraid I’d get tired of it and then I’d be stuck with that for a long, long time.

I love the look of flocked trees. If you have vintage or pastel ornaments, flocked trees can really showcase them.

I don't think Christmas trends go in/out as fast as other trends do because it is out for such a short time. if YOU like flocked you probably will like it for 10 years even if it is deemed "out" My tree choice has always been a traditional green. I think the flocked ones are pretty in someone else's decorating.

My garland has a light bit of flocking on it. It's very pretty and quite old. I don't think I've seen any like it in years.

My mom bought one a couple of years ago. The grandkids all joke that she's putting up the moldy tree again.
I liked it the first year she had it but I think she regrets the investment.

It's a tree, not a husband. You get tired of it, get a new one. I personally don't care if my tree is on trend or not. The only tree "trend" I ever really objected to were those upside down trees. I hate those.

I grew up with flocked trees, so it's definitely not new or a trend. I DIY flocked my real tree last year and saved over 100, and I'll do it again this year.
That said, I would be hesitant to buy a fake flocked tree. I don't know how it would hold up in storage over time. I wouldn't hesitate to flock an old tree to give it a little more life though.

A few years ago, we looked at Target for a new tree. The old one was just too big. We looked around and I kept coming back to a GORGEOUS 4ft flocked, prelit tree that could sit on a table in the corner. I had never had a flocked tree, but this is so pretty. And easy. We use a lot fewer ornaments now so it takes a lot less time to set up and put away. It has never shed, even with cats climbing in it. Love that tree. I have not seen one as pretty since, so I think we got lucky. And, it was 50 percent off. We had no idea trees were on sale that discounted a couple weeks before Christmas.

Flocked trees do seem trendy right now - we get a real tree and the last year it’s been more popular to have it flocked - last year I was intrigued but this year I think I’ll go for it. I think it’s an extra $100 Though - and the tree is at least $100 so definitely cost effective to get a fake tree!)

I hate those. If someone has a new puppy or one of those "I will climb EVERYTHING" cats, I think they can be practical. But as a trend, I agree.

I think flocked trees are really timeless. I've seen them around the Midwest forever.
Personally, I wouldn't want the stuff falling off of it.
We had a neighbor we lived by for about 6 years (about 10 years ago). She was a REAL tree person. They would buy HUGE, real trees. (Think EXPENSIVE!) And then pay extra to have it flocked.
It was beautiful, but, meh ... I'll stick with my fake, green one. LOL

A few years ago, I purchased my coveted white tree. Love Love. The last year of my old tree, I flocked it myself. Turned out great. Just what I wanted. I doubt that this would work for more than one season. But as it was the last year for my tree, it turned out looking like a real expensive flocked tree.

Flocked trees are timeless but the flocking turns brown. If you want flocking you can add it yourself. Personally I would just use cotton on the branches so I can take it off.
But as a collector of vintage and antique Christmas, flocked trees have been around for decades.

I think it's funny it's being called a trend. We always had a real flocked tree when I was a kid in the 60's.
I want to get one, maybe just one year.

We had a silver tree as a kid. I have seen the upside down ones. It's supposed to represent something, but now I can't remember what that is.

I never heard of them before this thread. We need a new tree this year. I'm going to try to keep a straight face and tell my husband I want one when he gets home. I can see his face when I tell him I want to hang it from the ceiling. He's going to think I've lost my mind.
