When my daughter pledged a sorority and was initiated I bought her a gift. I got her a blanket with the sorority crest and name on it. I went to a local shop by a nearby college that specializes in Greek "stuff" and the owner recommended this as a good gift for a Mom to buy.
Anyway DS kept his pledging a secret as to not worry me (a good idea in hindsight) but finally told me since he was very sporadic in answering my phone calls and texts. Initiation is Friday. He is not as sentimental as DD. Do I get him a gift too? I want to but I do not know if he will appreciate it.
I am assuming the same Greek store is still there and I could go ask the owner what Moms do for their sons but you all know we come here for advice first. Thanks!!

A blanket is a good idea. They wear them as capes to class

A book about looking out for himself and others?
Sorry, not what you were looking for I'm sure. I'm just still sick about the death of the fraternity pledge here at Penn State almost a year ago, and it's still happening at other schools too.
Please have a serious talk with your son about the dangers of heavy drinking, and how important it is to look out for others as well.
Yikes, upon reading this I sound preachy and judgy, and I honestly don't mean to. You've probably already talked with your kids about this, OP. I'm going to post anyway because it's just that important. Every time I see video of Tim Piazza's parents on the news my heart breaks for them.

A gift with the fraternity crest or letters would be very nice. Maybe get something he might not buy for himself. A tie with the crest or tie tac/cufflinks. That is something he can wear/use throughout his adult life.
BTW, what fraternity did he join?
And don't panic, not all fraternities are about getting drunk and partying.

I think it’s something everyone needs to think about. That is why he didn’t initially tell me. We did heave a conversation when he did finally tell me. He promised he is not stupid (which I believe); he has never been one to cave to peer pressure. He is also a junior so he has waited quite some time to pledge. His buddies have pledged before him so he knew what he was getting into. I’m just surprised he did it this late in the game.

He pledged TKE (Tau Kappa Epsilon) I like the idea of the tie or cuff links. He will have those for life.

That is DH's fraternity!! They guys usually have to dress nice for ritual so a tie with the crest would be helpful. DH has a money clip that I bought him years ago and he uses it when he is dresses up.
A badge box to keep his badge in when he's not wearing it would be a good gift. You can get them engraved with letters, a name, crest etc. I got one for my initiation 30 years ago and I still keep my badge in it.
One good thing, you will always have gift ideas for Christmas and birthdays, lol. A t-shirt with sewn on letters would make a great Christmas gift for both kids. I have been looking at greekgear.com for something for DD.
BTW, what sorority is your daughter in?

He got my son the cutest "Future TKE" sweatshirt made for Christmas. My brother still wears his TKE cuff links when he goes down to his school for Greek events and when he goes to some networking events. Attachments:

I like the cufflinks suggestion. DD's initiation is this weekend; I ordered a badge box with the sorority crest engraved on top. It was pretty reasonable on Amazon.
