I need to explain the huge gap in my work history (gap from September 1992 to April 2010)
What I have now references me being at home, raising a family, but now solidly back in the work force.
I don't really like it. Is there a better, more professional way to word this?

Do you need to include the information prior to 1992 to establish your place in your field? If not, 7 years on the resume is fine, if you can fit in the skills you want to highlight. You might have to explain more history on an application, but not necessarily on your resume.

How relevant is the experience from 1992? With 7 years of current experience, I doubt it's that relevant, and you can probably leave it off - but every situation is going to be different.

I do have my pre-1992 employment listed (which includes me remaining at a job for 5+ yrs) I like the idea of just listing the facts on my resume, but explaining employment history (and gaps) in more detail on an application

I should add that I don't have 7 yrs of current work experience. I had a job basically fall into my lap in April, 2010 and was there until Dec, 2011 when the company merged with another, and everyone in my office lost their jobs. I didn't look for employment after that because while that job fell into my lap, I didn't "need" to work and I remained at home until Nov 2015 where I am still employed.
