I am just starting to look at options. Tell me about your treadmill! Why do you like it? Dislike it? Ballpark budget? Just trying to be slightly prepared before I head into Sports Authority or Dick's this weekend Taylor

I have a Trimline that we bought like 11 or 12 years ago. It doesn't get used ALL the time but a few times a month at least. I honestly cannot remember how much we paid for it...but we bought it at a fitness store. At the time, I needed a treadmill that could withstand 350 lbs and you couldn't just find those anywhere. I want to say we paid at least $2000 for it. But it's been worth every cent. It still runs GREAT and haven't had one single issue with it.

Max out your budget. Seriously a cheap treadmill is an awful treadmill. You want a wide belt, high horsepower and forget the bells and whistles. You need incline and speed, maybe a fan (but you can put a fan in the floor. Needs a clear display. I have a commercial treadmill we bought used. It is a workhorse. The only thing I don't like is it maxes out at 100 minutes so you have to start over. Nit picky not a deal breaker.

NordicTrack Commercial 1500 - bought at Costco 7 years ago for $799, has incline, ipod plug-in with speakers, fan, speed, display. Runs 6 days a week (for 7 continuous years) for 1 hour per time per user, multiple users per day at times. Lasted for 6 years without problems before dh had to start fixing it (now has to be fixed by dh about every 4 months, belt slips and needs glue or screw, then works great again).

No specific advice, other than the website treadmilldoctor.com is great for reviews for all price points on treadmills and elliptical machines. Might be a good source for you before you buy.

Another thing to look for is a looooooooong walking bed. Ours at home is too short and I keep bumping my toes up against the top of it. Drives me crazy and no one uses it. I joined a gym because I hate that thing so much!

I had a life fitness treadmill that I loved but couldn't bring it with me when we moved. I now have a Norditrack. The Norditrack doesn't seem as sturdy. I would make sure it's sturdy when running, has incline and your feet don't hit the front panel when you use it. You'll want to spend your whole budget to get a good quality one.

One thing I might suggest is to bring your iphone or ipod and headphones with you when you go shopping. Most treadmills you can plug in your devices, but on a lot of them the sound volume isn't enough to cover the sound of the belt and footsteps. Try running/walking and listening to your device. I hope that makes sense.
