Hi, anyone still hanging in there? How are you getting ready for the big day? I am seriously looking forward to a plate of heaping mashed potatoes, stuffing and cranberry sauce. Oh and I guess I'll have some bird. I'm 24 hour fasting today, per my usual schedule, ate dinner last night, started fasting right after, won't break my fast until 6 pm tonight. I'm going to try do low carb until Thursday. I really want to be ahead of the game so I can eat, guilt free on Thursday. Thursdays I also normally 24 hour fast so instead I'll just do my fast on Friday instead. Hoping to get some motivation here! Let's do this!

I'm still hanging in, though I have added a Greek yogurt back in a few times a week. I've found that I don't get enough energy just from fat. Not going to blow it on Thanksgiving, but I am having a little it of something sweet!

I remain low-carb. I don't count calories, and I do eat some things (berries, e.g.) that are not that awesome for a low-carb diet, but for six months now, I have been eating pretty much nothing by way of bread/pasta/crackers etc.. I occasionally have sushi rolls that include rice, but that is about it. I gave up snacks. I also go to barre class pretty much every day.
My barre studio had a challenge and I completed it last week; they measured our body fat. I am at 17.5 % and am at the lowest weight I have been at in 15 years. For real, you should see my abs; or you shouldn't, because they are super defined but under a layer of wrinkled skin from being pregnant with 16 pounds of twins seven years ago. This stuff works, people.

I’m down 20 lbs and am looking forward to my free day (Thanksgiving). I am not looking forward to gaining weight on that day, even though I’m going back to the plan immediately on Fri. Haven’t had potatoes, wheat or dairy in 40 days. It will be interesting to see their effect.

I’m still trudging along. I had a gain last week, but I’m still 46 pounds down since starting in June. I’ve slipped a bit in tracking what I eat, so I know what I need to do. I’m still doing about 18:6, but I think I’m going to try to throw a 24 hour fast in there a few times to shake things up.

I suck. I fell off the wagon at the staff lunch on Friday and haven’t gotten back on yet.

I fell off the wagon, but I am getting back on it. It wasn't that I was eating bad stuff - I was just snacking all the time. So back to no snacks and doing my IF. I dont think I will go crazy at Thanksgiving. Im in charge of the menu so I have included a bunch of stuff I don't like so I wouldn't be tempted.

I went off the rails and kept going lol. I'm going to try it to get it somewhat under control and once Thanksgiving is over I'm in for serious again.

I went on a cruise two weeks ago, had visitors all last week, and ds and dil got here on Saturday -- I fell off the wagon and I think it's dragging me along by one foot! But I am taking my own advice and putting all that behind me. Signed up for Pilates today, tomorrow, and Wednesday and I will do 18:6 those three days too. I'm just going to try for moderation once the rest of my company gets here on Wednesday.
I'm so proud of you guys who are doing well, you're an inspiration!

I tried the IF, but my glucose numbers raised a lot overnight anyway. But I was diagnosed with diabetes earlier this year, and at my last appt my blood sugars were in the 400s with and A1C of 10.8, which is about 280. Not good. My doctor wanted to put me on insulin and another medication, but I was told weight gain was a very real possibility due to the meds. So, I decided to see what I could do with changing my diet alone.
I have been able to drop my readings to 90s-160s (after a meal) with a typical fasting reading being 100s-120s. Not perfect, but an enormous difference! I cut out almost all refined carbs and am mindful of those that occur naturally in fruits/veggies, etc. I allow myself 2 cheat meals a week, but I don't go crazy. I've lost about 24 pounds since mid-sept, but most of that was due to severe stomach issues I had for a few weeks. However, about 7 of those pounds were from my change in diet so even though it's been excruciatingly slow, at least it is happening.
Also, I just started physical therapy in the pool for my back and it's already making a difference in my ability to move so I am very excited about that! Looking forward to the day I can actually exercise.

I am staying keto over the holidays. Will have green beans, cauliflower mash, and a bacon/asparagus thing as sides to my turkey.

And I find if I eat an earlier dinner, say by 4, then it's not bad at all. Its way harder to me if I have to wait till 6 pm. You'll be amazed at how much more effective a 24 hour is, and not that much harder than a 16:8 if you are already used to it.

Poor thing, keep going, I wish you well on your journey back to good health. It sounds like you are really on the right track. Let's encourage each other through the holidays, guys. We can still have a good time at parties, events, just rein it in when we need to. Make up some meal plans and let's go!

Good timing, I needed encouragement. I strayed this weekend and again after a memorial service today and ate a piece of cream cake. It did not disappoint. I've been good about not eating my feelings but I went for the quick comfort.
Time to regroup. Thanks for letting me vent.

I'm still at it. Down almost 30 lbs. Recovering from a weekend away with friends that caused all kinds of bad eating. But, you know what? By day number 3, I couldn't wait to get back on my program. And since then I've been watching my carbs very closely and increasing my hours of fasting.
On Thursday I plan to indulge a bit but nothing crazy. I'll be back on low carb on Friday. I really feel better when I eat this way.

I started in late August. I was already at a healthy weight, but I was snacking mindlessly at "snack time" everyday and I realized that I was eating more than I needed, even if it didn't result in weight gain. I wanted to get in a better mindset with food.
I practice a loose version of 16:8. Sometimes more, sometimes less. I just try hard to only eat when I am hungry, and only eat until I am satisfied. I do sometimes have to eat before I am hungry depending on work demands, but I only eat a little and then wait until after demands are cured, and then I eat again if I am hungry.
I am at my lowest weight in I don't know how long. Probably 30ish years. I went to my 30th HS reunion weighing at or less what I actually weighed in HS.

Just a couple to start You pick a time period during which you don't eat. Water is fine. There are variations of what different fasters find acceptable as far as what they can consume that doesn't break the fast. I prefer to think of it more as shutting the kitchen down at 8 PM every day (my dinner time) and then not eating again until I am truly hungry (not starving). Then I simply eat until I am just satisfied, not full. I go at least 12, sometimes 14, hours without food. Water and coffee only for me.

Sooooo I'm gonna ask yall... lol What is the 18:6 thing someone above mentioned?? During a 24 hr fast... is it only water all day?? Or what exactly can you have?? Just a couple to start Ditto what KeithUrban pea said. I stop eating in the evenings by 6 latest, and then only consume black coffee/plain hot tea and water until I break my fast at 11:00. I'm loose about it too. In the beginning I was really strict, and used an app to help me with the countdown. But now this is just a way of life for me (I started Memorial Day weekend) so I just 'know' when my time is up. You body adapts pretty quickly to a new eating style. I think it took about two weeks. I have a couple of suggestions for you. Go to the library or buy "The Obesity Factor" by Dr. Jason Fung. And search for his videos in YouTube. He explains the science behind it. We also have a massive thread by Melissa OPeagyn when we started all this, I can btt it for you if you like. The Obesity Factor is a little heavier reading. If you want something quicker with lots of drawings and charts, then get his other book called The Guide To Fasting. I LOVE both books, but the guide is really so helpful, I highlighted the heck out of it and jotted notes on it. I studied and learned this. I live by my 18:6 routine, and I'm also pretty dedicated to 24 hour fasts on Monday and Thursdays. Its what I do and it works for me. I think key thing you learn in Dr Fung's findings is that you really need to eliminate sugars from your diet, including artificial ones. The sugars are what keep you hungry. I was a total carb addict, still am. But I really monitor how much I'm eating now, and if I have a bad day then the next I stick with protein and veggies again, so I don't get myself into that deadly cycle again. Gotta do it. That's why this week heading into TG, I'm consciously low carbing it. I'm at the lowest weight I've been at in over 15 years and I'm so happy and relieved. Hope this helps you! and we are always happy to answer your questions!

I ventured over from the Scrapping board and am so pleased to find a Fasting/Keto discussion going on!
I generally only eat dinner during the week, and then eat normally on weekends - trying to keep it keto or at least very low-carb when I do eat.
The only person IRL who knows I fast/IF is my husband - because otherwise I'd be lectured about it. I feel the best physically and mentally when I fast, with Keto coming in a close second. My productivity really goes up. Plus I like to think I'm killing any cancer cells that might be developing.
Dr. Fung finally started a new podcast - The Obesity Code, for anyone interested.

From the same website is info on intermittent fasting from Dr. Jason Fung. Again very good info, easy to understand. Scroll all the way down to the videos. www.dietdoctor.com/intermittent-fastingI do 20:4 most days. On the weekend, I may give myself a 16:8 day if I feel I need it. During fasting periods I only drink water. Some people have small amounts of calories during fasting periods but what I'm doing works for me. When I started out, I went 16:8. If my last meal was at 7:00, I wouldn't consume any calories until I broke my fast at 11:00. The first couple days was tough but then it becomes really easy. Now I effortlessly do 20 hours of fasting.

7 years ago, I lost 80 pounds. I did it by simply eating half of what I normally would and exercising. I am sad to report that as of this morning, I have gained back 35 lbs of it. I was wearing pants that were way uncomfortable until last week when I bought new pants for work I decided to weigh myself on the scale this morning and I was stunned by my weight gain. When this was first talked about I read the Obesity Code, and I downloaded the book on fasting, but haven't read it yet. I'm thinking the time to read it and apply this knowledge is now. I'm joining your little group starting today. I'm just so disappointed in myself. I kept 80 pounds off for six years. I never reached my goal weight, but I thought I was doing alright. This has slowly crept up on me over the past year/year and a half.
