oaksong I'm pretty sure there will be no stories of untoward behavior with women for Anderson Cooper: if you read the book he and his mom write, you will know it is highly unlikely, kwim?. Anderson seems like such a decent guy that I am hoping he hasn't been the recipient of this sort of behavior. I think all of these stories just prove that someone can have a positive public persona and be a very different person in their private life. The true test of character is the way people behave when they think no one will find out. I find it interesting the way Nora and Gayle addressed Charlie Rose's removal from the air. Very classy response and I'm sure it is very difficult for them to reconcile the man that they thought they knew with the man that they have heard the stories about.

I don’t watch his show(s) but I an thoroughly unsurprised, based on seeing clips of him from his CBS morning show on John Oliver. Almost makes me wonder if Oliver knew about the rumors. This was my exact line of thinking this morning when I heard about it on my way to work.

Today's news about Charlie Rose made me think that there must be a lot of people in the world shaking in their stupid boots waiting for the news about their bad behavior to come to light. I wonder if you are a person that knows you've done something like this in your past, what is going through their head right now? "Oh sh!t, I'm screwed" or "Whatever, I didn't do anything that wrong" ?
Ugh to it all!

If you spend time reading here you know that in addition to rapey men, our own perspective about who is a victim or what actually constitutes assault needs to change. I don't think men are shaking in their boots regarding being outed because 1.You elected a rapist into the highest office 2. They've been brutalizing marginalized women for decades with many women turning a blind eye to it. 3. Power/Predatory behavior go hand in hand. We are too quick to hand over our agency or drop ranks in exchange for either a little power money and/or attention.

I was really shocked by this one. I would watch his show on PBS when it came on at midnight as I was battling insomnia that was brought on by menopause for a long time. I really enjoyed the huge variety of topics, guest, reviews of movies and plays he would do. He had a very unique show. And now it's all gone. Very disappointing to hear that who I thought was a very intelligent, respected and talented interviewer is actually a PIG.

I found him in recent years on his show to be much more apt to speak over and interrupt women guests than men guests.

I know that HR is mostly there at my job to protect the company, but at least we HAVE an HR department- is THAT what's missing in the industries where this stuff seems to run rampant? Or is it because it (seems to be) mostly audition-type scenarios (although not in Congress...) where there isn't any recourse, since you just won't get hired if you don't go along? What about in Congress? if a certain Congressperson gets a little too handsy in the elevator, do the staffers have an HR department they can tell?? Wouldn't it be great if it was something like that? I think it'll help to have that support though. But sadly, I believe we needed to have this huge, public display of criminal and boorish behavior by all of them. Because this is clearly not a political issue as many have tried to make it. It's not race, religion or an economic status issue. This will go on for a while I believe. And it should. We needed this as a culture. It's needed world wide. Let us lead the way. Charlie Rose is a pig. I don't care what he's done or could do. Done and done. All of them. Shunned and set out on the edge of town like they used too. If it has to work as a warning and scare others into good behavior until it becomes part of true understanding and knowledge, that's fine too. Enough. We've all had enough.

I think her struggle to reconcile what she’s heard with the person she thought she knew is the most honest thing I have ever heard out of anybody’s mouth on television. I admire that she spoke of her struggle, that she did it so eloquently, and the way she said “I haven’t talked to him but I plan on talking to him TODAY.”

What I don't understand is Charlie Rose's working on business matters in his apartment and taking a shower with the door open while a female colleague is there. WTF? It was referred to by one source for the big newspaper article as "Charlie's shower trick." Ugh. I hope I would have had the guts to get up and leave the first instance something happened. I call BS on his statement that he thought he was "pursuing shared feelings." He is either delusional or a big fat liar.

And people wonder why women have had trouble for decades breaking into the highest echelons of almost any area of society.
it is the attitude and culture that has permitted this heinous, misogynistic, power-driven behavior to go on unchecked. When you have men doing this shit unchecked for decades and decades, can it be any surprise that women aren't paid the same, don't get promoted, etc. It is quite clear that whatever laws are on the books, whatever corporate policies exist, mean nothing. It's all part of the "boys will be boys" and girls just have to put up with it attitude that exists from birth.
It's all part of the same coin. It is not about sex. It is about power and keeping people in their "place" -- under men. These guys are doing it in a very literal way, but make no mistake. The attitude is pervasive and part of the workplace in all ways.

I'm not surprised. If you're a regular watcher of the CBS Morning Show, you see he's a bit of a lech. Norah and Gayle reference it a lot.

He just didn’t seem like the type of guy to act like this. I wonder if the behavior is recent. Maybe he has dementia. I just read an article that said he has always been a "ladies' man", in the sense that he has always had a very active dating life and that it was common knowledge that he was a perve. What's even more disappointing to me is that people- both men and women- knew he behaved like this and did nothing to try and stop it. So all these people knew and no one said a thing. It's very sad to see what we as women have had to put up with out of fear. The damage women have suffered over so many years of male supremacy is just astounding. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Surprised folks are surprised by this one. He's always had a creepy guy vibe to me. I agree. If anyone has ever watched John Oliver on Sunday nights, he's done 3 segments in the last couple of years showing the inappropriateness of Charlie Rose - along with Gayle and Nora to be fair. This one didn't shock me at all. WaPo Article about it

I will be interested if Nora and Gayle mention it tomorrow. They both seem to have a lot of respect for him. I don't know why but this one really really shocks me. Yes they did. It was the lead story. Both Nora and Gayle expressed how this situation is upsetting to them. They both stand by the women who have spoken out, and hope women continue to expose sexual harassment. Gayle was especially taken aback by the whole thing. I honestly don't buy her shock at all. At all.

I find it disappointing that Yvette Vega, Rose's longtime executive producer, knew of the harassment and didn't do anything about it. Of course, she's sorry now.

And can we all not forget all the uncomfortable touching and leering Biden did. It was laughed at by all but those who were pawed and touched. It all needs to come out. All of it. All who partook in the mess. There's countless accounts and pictures of it. It was well known that he was handsy and made women uncomfortable with his touching. I'm through with all of them. All. New leaders. Shakeup at the highest levels.

We are travelling in Spanish speaking countries and one of the tricks to improve your language skills is to watch a movie you already know in that language, preferably with the subtitles. Last night it was Basic Instinct- the Sharon Stone character did a similar trick, changing with the door wide open, which was clearly to rattle the two detectives. No ambiguity, clearly sexual and predatory.
