So my ds's social life has seemed to take off since he started high school in September which means lots of sleepovers. He and his friends rave about the breakfasts at this one kids house because of the homemade waffles (as opposed to pancakes or eggos they get at our house). DD and DH also lovee waffles and have mentioned a few times they are jealous. I was thinking maybe Santa could bring us a waffle maker for Christmas.
Long story short - Any recommendations or ones to stay away from?

I regret donating my old one. It had removable plates for cleaning. My new one does not. It is a PITA to clean.
Enjoy your homemade waffles!

I watched America's Test Kitchen recently and they reviewed a bunch and I was suprised everything got horrible reviews. Seemed they didn't get hot enough.
The winner was a really high end one that was expensive. Maybe Google to see if you can find the reviews because unfortunately I can't remember which it was..

Get the Cuisinart Panini press with the waffle plates. I think you have to order the waffle plates separately, but who knows, with Christmas coming, maybe there will be a combo of some sort. That way, you have a multipurpose item and the plates are removable for cleaning

I bought the $9.99 Kohl's special about six or eight years ago and it's still going strong. Nothing fancy and not finicky - the light clicks on when the waffle is ready and that's it.

This is close to the one we have. Mine is quite old, so I don't think they sell that exact model anymore. It also does not have removable plates, but the surface is nonstick. I just spray it before making, and they really don't stick. (If they do, you don't have enough oil in the batter). We have loved this one a lot. We used to have the smaller squared one with removable plates, but I really didn't like it at all and we didn't make many waffles until I got this one. It is also a lot more accurate in the telling of when the waffles are cooked.

I have a Waring Pro Belgian waffle maker. It cooks omelets also, but I've never used that feature, but waffles come out perfect every time. I also made hash browns in it last weekend and they were delicious!

I bought a Breville waffle maker a few years ago and I can't tell you how much I love it. It makes perfect waffles every single time and the waffles never stick.
We had fourteen houseguests at our lake house last 4th of July weekend and I made 20 perfect waffles every day for breakfast in just a few minutes.
Sometimes I make the waffle batter from scratch and sometimes I use a mix. They come out great either way.
The Breville was expensive, but I feel it was worth every penny.

We just have this basic model that we like and have used in the RV for a few years. We can't have a larger unit due to space, so this one is just right for us Presto Waffle Maker

Mine is about 20 years old -- it makes barnyard animals (everyone fights over the rooster for some reason). It was from Williams Sonoma for Mother's Day.
I have to suggest the Carbon's Golden Malted Waffle and Pancake Mix. It makes such yummy waffles -- everyone in my house loves them. I think a pea recommended it about five years ago, and I've been buying it ever since.

I love hosting brunch. My waffle iron gets a lot of use. I bought this model a few years ago: Cuisinart Waffle MakerIt's great, especially if you're making waffles for several people. I love this waffle recipe and add vanilla to it: Best Ever Waffle Recipe
I will sometimes omit the milk in the recipe or substitute half of the milk with water. It makes the waffles airy and crispy.

I have a Black and Decker, non-stick removable plates and it was about $25 at Walmart. Works great. I just now looked on the Walmart site and the B&D waffle maker doesn't have removable plates any more. I never knew how great the removable plate/grills were until I bought this one. Plus I can flip my plates over and they have a flat side for grilling sandwiches.

Another thing to consider before buying, do you prefer the Belgian or classic style waffles? I have a Belgian waffle maker now, but will go back to a classic once this breaks as I prefer thinner waffles.

Black& Decker from Canadian Tire. It usually goes on sale for about 39.99.

I have this small Cuisinart. It's fine and I never grease it. Plates aren't removable, but its easy to wipe down. I'm just careful to not overfill it. I make cream cheese/egg waffles and they are always perfect.

I have one that flips. You can do 2 waffles at once. We prefer Beligum waffles. I’ve never felt the need to have removable plates. The waffle maker is nonstick and cleans up with a quick wipe down.

We have one of the Belgian waffle makers that flips and I won’t go back to a regular one ever again. I think they cook better because the batter goes fully into both halves of the plates. Ours doesn’t have removable plates but I’ve never had to spend a lot of time or effort cleaning it.

We have a 52 year old GE waffle maker that my parents got as a wedding gift. We have a great recipe and they come out perfect in our iron. You can't change the plates and washing is difficult. We just towel it off.

We have one of the flip types. Grandpa usually makes a hot breakfast every morning when the grandkids spend the night. We had enough grandkids and sleepovers the go through a FIFTY pound bag of flour this summer. He uses buttermilk in his recipe and that waffle maker really gets a work out.
