Congrats to them. My Facebook feed is a commiserating sobfest of all my 30 year old single British relatives. There's a lot of them, and they all still seemed to believe that they had a shot with him!

but no doubt we'll see it tonight when they broadcast the interview with them both. I wonder where we can watch this in the US?

The BBC are doing a live feed and have posted a few photos of the couple taken in the last 10 mins, there is a ring on her finger but hard to see detail. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-42116319

Playe, Harry was never going to marry a 'motherly' girl, British or not! The announcement and interview was so cute, him saying he fell in love with her at first sight ☺

Any speculation on the ring from the UK peas? The ring is gold with three diamonds. The middle larger diamond is from Botswana and the two either side are from Diana’s collection. Prince Harry designed it himself. ETA Botswana is very close to Prince Harry’s heart. He has spent a lot of time there. Second ETA I’ve just seen a close up, it was blurred but the center, very large diamond looks squarish!

I love her! I think she's the perfect type for Harry. She does a lot of humanitarian work, too. I think that with Kate's newest baby coming along and pushing Harry to 6th in line to the throne, that takes so much pressure off of Harry and Meghan. May they have decades of happiness together.

The wedding is going to be next spring. There are two Royal reporters arguing at the minute on whether it will be before or after the Duchess of Cambridge has her baby!

I agree. I think they seem perfect for each other and I think she’ll be better equipped for it than Kate was.

Given the sadness he has had in his life, he deserves to be happy. I would certainly hope that after he saw what happened to his mother, that he knows the importance of marrying for love. he has dated a lot of women, so I have to hope and believe he knows he is marrying the right one for him.
I wish them a lifetime of happiness!

I'm very happy for them but, as a big Suits fan, I'm sad she'll be leaving the show.

I'm ridiculously happy to see this announcement. I think they are well suited in terms of interests and humanitarian work. Given that they are both in their mid30s and have a lot of similar life experiences under their belts, I think they are a great match.

I think its great news & not a surprise at all given that she moved in with him last week.
and I love that she is American, biracial, older than him, and divorced - breaking old traditions all over the place!!!
I bet that she will be pregnant within a year given her age

I thought I read it was going to be in september, no? No, definitely in spring. One reporter said they will have the wedding before Catherine has the baby so that the focus can be on the baby when it’s born and not the wedding. The other reporter was adamant that it will be after the baby is born so Catherine won’t be pregnant at the wedding! It was quite funny listening to them,

I hope they have much happiness. I was a little surprised that they lasted this long together as they don't really seem to be a perfect match, but who am I to judge. ha! A couple of weeks ago, I saw a headline that said Harry was moving his girlfriend into the palace, but thought, wow that is odd, talk about non-forming of the "rules". I did not open the link to read the rest of the story, but now that this has been formally announced, that is probably what it was referring too.

Very exciting

Very exciting I remembered it was spring as I’m getting married in May 2019 and was pleased it wasn’t going to be at the same time! It’s very exciting. I hope the wedding is televised. I’ve just seen some of the interview, they make a lovely couple. I think there’s more being shown on The One Show also.

lus, she's already a celebrity actress in a popular TV show, so she's accustomed to paparazzi and media already. Plus, she's already a celebrity actress in a popular TV show, so she's accustomed to paparazzi and media already. I don't think she needs the "easing in" period that Kate did (or Diana should've had). It's Interesting because in the interview on TV just now she responded to that thought, which has obviously been mentioned by others, saying that because she wasn't a part of the celebrity 'circus' she wasn't at all used to paparazzi etc.

I agree with some of this too. I can't put my finger on it, but I just never saw her as "the one" for Harry. I hope she proves me wrong because she does seem like a lovely girl. BTW, I thought she was Canadian? She currently lives in Toronto but born in the US. I think with the line getting longer between the throne and Harry, there's less pressure on him to be "proper." I wouldn't surprised if he agrees to something that states that he and his future children have no claim to the throne. Why would he do that? There's no reason to at all.

Note: NOT shades of what previous commentators said about Michelle Obama.
