Just heard this. I'm delighted for them both and so glad he's met someone. She seems really lovely. I hope they'll both be very happy.

Unlike a lot of people here - I'm not a fan.
I don't like her for him at all. I think he needs a nice motherly English girl. She's already been married once so clearly she isn't a fan of working things out, and this relationship and marriage is going to be way more stressful and way more work than that last one. I also think being from the USA she'll always be a bit of an outsider in that very traditional English society.
Of course I am well aware that my opinion means nothing...but just spouting it anyway. I'll go on record as betting there will be a divorce in the future. I know Kate was always going to be different as potentially the next Queen, which Meghan is extremely unlikely to ever be...but they spent many years making sure Kate was transitioned slowly into Royal life, but this time they haven't been together very long and have only just been officially recognised as a couple, and then they will be married relatively quickly. It all seems very rushed and not much time to adjust to all of the chaos & intense scrutiny that will become part of her life. It's all hard enough for an English girl (Sarah/Diana)to adjust to, never mind an outsider to this whole new way of life.

wellway - knew you'd be first with the news! I'm very happy for them and will look forward to the wedding next year. pjaye - I understand your misgivings. I hope and expect that Prince Harry, like William, having borne witness to the way their mother was hounded by the Press will do everything in his power to help MM adjust and learn to deal with the inevitable onslaught and loss of privacy etc etc. I do think she's probably not quite aware yet of how things will be but I don't think she'll be abandoned to it like Diana was.

I can't put my finger on it, but I just never saw her as "the one" for Harry. I hope she proves me wrong because she does seem like a lovely girl. BTW, I thought she was Canadian?

If they want to have children together, they don’t have years to transition: Meghan is 36.

She currently lives in Toronto but born in the US. I think with the line getting longer between the throne and Harry, there's less pressure on him to be "proper." I wouldn't surprised if he agrees to something that states that he and his future children have no claim to the throne.

I do think she's probably not quite aware yet of how things will be but I don't think she'll be abandoned to it like Diana was. She is also a lot older and much less naive than Diana was going in. It will still not be easy, but her life experience will be a help in dealing with it.

They always look really happy together. I think she will keep him firmly in his place and he will adore her for it.
She is not your typical princess but once the Queen and Charles have gone, do any of us know what a typical Royal of the 2000s should be like? I think the Duchess of Cambridge was the start of the winds of change and Meghan will continue with that.

It will still not be easy, but her life experience will be a help in dealing with it. This is my thinking as well. Plus, she's already a celebrity actress in a popular TV show, so she's accustomed to paparazzi and media already. I don't think she needs the "easing in" period that Kate did (or Diana should've had).

When does the Queen film her Christmas broadcast? I wonder if the announcement had come now so she can refer to it?

Meghan is very high society in Toronto. One of her besties is Sophie Trudeau. (Our “First Lady” if you will) She knows how to handle the press and how to act among the wealthy and politicians.
I think she is perfect for Harry. She is just like him; adventurous, outdoorsy, fun loving, outgoing. They make a lovely pair.
She had better not hurt my ginger prince though...I will cut her lol

SaveSaveHer speech is broadcast at 3.00 on Christmas Day but it is not live. I think it's recorded a few days earlier but the planning, theme, any video needed etc is planned months in advance.

I think he'd tell them ( the media and the paps) in no uncertain terms exactly what he thinks, in the same way as he did last year soon after it became known that he was seeing her. I don't think neither William or Harry put up with it anymore. At one time it would be unheard of for the Royals to sue anyone and yet Prince William sued in France and won a while ago.

Any speculation on the ring from the UK peas? Not yet, but no doubt we'll see it tonight when they broadcast the interview with them both.
