I am not really a stamper, although Heaven knows I own alot of stamps. So I was thinking when reading the "favourite stamp set" thread, that I do have favourite dies. And I tend to use them more than my stamps. Every year, I pick up a few new Christmas dies, and this year is no exception. Of course, because they are new and fun to play with, they are my favourites--at least until the next season of dies comes along. This year, I had the most fun playing with these three. Elizabeth Crafts "Reindeer" and Elizabeth Crafts "Festive Glow" that I ordered direct from Elizabeth Craft Designs Memory Box's now out of stock Newbury ornament vignette that I picked up from my LSS on sale. Which dies did YOU have most fun playing with this year?

I have been using my November Hero Arts dies and stamps on my Christmas cards! I liked that one but HATED that they made the dies into tags. It's so limiting. If the didn't have the hole, you could make them tags or not. But w/the hole, they're just tags and can't be an element on a card that's just a tree, not a tree tag, etc.

I wonder if we could cut the hole part out of the die?

I like stampin ups little snowman and reindeer tag stamps/dies and Elizabeth crafts stockings (solid and overlay set 1) The stockings may be older but they are a favorite. Of course the small sizzix wreath is still a favorite that sees a lot of use!

I loved that snowman stamp and wanted both it and the dies, but dang that’s a lot of money to spend on something I doubt I would really use!

I've had my eye on that Elizabeth Crafts deer set, grammadee ! My current fave is the MFT snowglobe. I bought extra shaker card windows with the kit they had (add-ons, SSS, take a hint!) and am making my Christmas cards with it. I'm a little obsessed with shaker cards right now.

I picked up the Taylored Expressions snow globe stamp and die set at the end of the season last year, with the intention of creating shaker cards with them this year, but I don't have the special little windows/cups to hold the "snow", and have yet to perfect the foam tape seal around the window. So shaker cards are yet a dream of mine. I might get them mastered by the time they go out of style...

Well after stamping, coloring and die cutting 40 penguins along with all their accessories , I saw Nicole Spohr use this set and had to change my card plan. I think these guys are just so cute and they're so easy to color.

Karen Burniston's newest dies, the popup Christmas tree and the Twist Circle Snowman. I don't have her newest sleigh die, so much more intricate than her older one. I do NOT know why I haven't made any of the older sleighs in a card yet. But I'm changing that oversight tomorrow. Karen's newest animals, the penguin, bear, dog and cat are in some of the cards. The Impression Obsession Merry Christmas shown below was on a Christmas card I received in my Christmas card exchange last year. I figured out who made it before I had to contact the person who sent me the card! I also like the Sizzix thinlets one piece "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year" and the tree shaped sentiment "A very Merry Christmas". I have many other Christmas word dies but those 3 and all the Lawn Fawn Christmas related word border dies are what I'm using the most this year. I usually use the others on the outside and the various Lawn Fawn ones inside instead of a stamped sentiment. I would have posted my version of the cards but hard to know where to post them to link them here and not get into trouble! So many dies, so little time. If I just didn't have to go to work!

OMG, AngieandSnoopy, I just spent half an hour watching Karen's videos, and I. Want. Them. ALL!!! If I were going to pace myself, maybe I could start with the pop up sleigh, the winter animals, and the woodland animals...

She just die cut out several pieces of the shaker top part and glued them together to get a dimension.

You don't need foam either if you use the plastic boxes, but I usually wouldn't want the expense.

OMG, AngieandSnoopy , I just spent half an hour watching Karen's videos, and I. Want. Them. ALL!!! If I were going to pace myself, maybe I could start with the pop up sleigh, the winter animals, and the woodland animals... Maybe if you got the sleigh, I could get the tree and we could share! grammadee and justjac, that would work well for the both of you! Either the sleigh OR the tree would work for other occasions. The sleigh would be great for winter birthdays, it already comes with the present and the two sizes of bows. The smaller bow is for the wreath but will work for the present also giving presents a different look. The tree has the cardinal, so you could just have a tree with birds, trim the top knot and it is different bird. The tree would work for any time of the year whether birthday or just hello card. The way I decorate the tree as a Christmas tree, I've found the fastest thing to do is use glitter glue, lay them out, dot the different colors on, just at the top on the larger trees but all over the smaller. Let them dry overnight and then assemble. You do need to add a little on the back of the top of the bigger trees but I usually do that AFTER everything is done. Dot with glitter glue and just let them stand open until dry. Since I do everything assembly line AFTER I've done the very first card and satisfied that I know how to do it, it works well for me. I wanted to do sequins to position them over glue takes too long if I'm doing a lot of cards. I'm also afraid they might pop off the tree during mailing. I like Karen's newer sleigh die because it works as a standing popup with the background completely flat or as a traditional popup with the background standing up. It comes with everything you need except an animal and you don't "have" to have an animal but makes it even cuter. I love the penguin and the dog in her latest set the best. Heck, I love the bear, he is a polar bear or just a teddy bear! The new Tiny Accessories is cute because you have glasses, props and more hats. Winter Animals has a hat as does Birthday Charms. The standing popup, both the sleigh AND the tree works best as Karen shows, with only ONE layer of cardstock at the fold. It doesn't lay as flat IF you have the inside layer of cardstock go over the fold. So long as the shape hid the mechanism, the sleigh mechanism could popup anything. You can also do the same with the tree popup mechanism, not as easy BUT if you've had as much experience in popup cards as I have lately, you can do it. If any of you have any questions about the popup cards, something isn't working right or if you want to know IF something would work, just ask. I've learned a few tricks to make things work even better. I like Karen's dies because she has so many little extras to make a complete card in her sets AND I mix and match shapes from her different sets to make something completely different. I put her sets on "vent magnet sheets" that I get at Walmart and also available at Home Depot and other hardware stores. Just cut to fit and put the entire set into a zipper lock freezer bag. Freezer bag because they are thicker and stronger and I don't use ziplock, I prefer the zipper bags because they close and open faster and more precise. I don't want to lose any little dies! I wish there was a size between quart and gallon but I wind up using Fuse accessories to cut down a gallon bag.
