I don't want a story, I really just want a recipe, why is that so hard? It's almost as if I have to read through a blog post to get a darn recipe these days. Does this happen to anyone else? It's so annoying, I know I'm petty but I'm usually in a hurry and when I have to scroll, scroll, scroll to find the actual recipe it drives me nuts!

I totally agree! I was just bitching to dh about this the other day. And I really don't need step by step photos!

Totally agree. Post the recipe first and then the photos and step by step directions.

I like one prep photo, maybe she cut her veggies different or something else I might pick up. It just makes the recipe look much easier having a visual of the process. What I don't like are 10 photos of the same finished plate.

My gripe is the 25 photos of the recipe subject. I got it after the first 2. A picture of Every. Single. Step. Is not necessary.

I’m with you. I hate that. Plus so many have sponsors that inject HUGE ads after practically every sentence.
Just give me the recipe! (And PS - don’t hide the print button! )

that's my biggest pet peeve about recipe blogs. all the blah blah blah and 20 pics of the same finished food item taken at different angles. i like blogs that get to the point and their pics are more step by step instead of the same pic over and over again.

Or them apologizing because they haven't posted in a while, Little Susie was sick, the dog threw up... In a month, none of that will matter. I find this annoying about how to videos as well.

Yes its getting bad. Post the recipe and then you can tell your story. I hate when I scroll and scroll and then there isn't even a recipe you have to pick it out from the long blog post with pictures.

Or please, insert the ads at the end so they don't keep bouncing the page up and down. I start to read and then the page jumps down, over and over as ads are inserting so slowly. Do they have control over how many ads are inserted? Cause some of them have way too many ads.

I don’t mind scrolling through the blog post and sometimes I enjoy the story that goes along with it. What I don’t like is 20 pictures of the same completed food item taken from 20 different angles. 2 or 3 photos of the finished dish is enough. ETA: I just read back and realized papersilly and I think a lot alike

I guess I could see where that would be annoying if that's all you want. But why not just go to a recipe site for a recipe instead of a blog if that's all you have interest in?
I would think a blog, by nature, is going to include more that just - here's a recipe for X.

But why not just go to a recipe site for a recipe instead of a blog if that's all you have interest in? problem is that personally, I'm a visual person- I find a lot of recipes by looking at the pictures on Pinterest, and lots of them are pinned from blog posts, not recipe sites. I need to see at least a couple pictures-- I don't like recipe sites because they DON'T all have photos.

This is something I both love and hate about Pioneer Woman. Sometimes I'm thankful for the pictures of steps because I like seeing what she means by rough texture, for example.
Other times I'm like, okay, I get it! I REALLY don't need to see a picture of you dumping salt. And then pepper. Then onion powder. And garlic powder. Let's not forget the paprika. Oh, and the cumin, and the chili powder, too. Gah! A pun or two works, but not one at every step, either. Gets old.
I often scroll right to the bottom, too.

I'm with ya, sistah. Please, you really do not have to have an entire photo teaching me how to measure and add salt. And then pepper.

I'm okay with shortish stories to go along with the recipe. And I appreciate when the step by steps include helpful information that doesn't really belong in the recipe itself.

I would think a blog, by nature, is going to include more that just - here's a recipe for X. I think what happens is I'm typically on my phone and search for let's say - baked Italian sausage, a bunch of photos pop up and I click on one, and 9 times out of 10 it's one of those super long blog type recipes with a story and 47 photos!

That’s why I love the Paprika app. I don’t have to scroll. Just click the button and the app finds the recipe and saves it!

fidget What kind of recipe are you looking for? I was looking for a recipe to bake Italian sausage in the oven. I am so glad that I have kept my 'basic' cookbooks - Good Housekeeping, Joy of Cooking and Betty Crocker. Good, basic recipes that I can either add or change to the taste that I want. I don't trust most on-line recipes.

First, adblock. Second, I totally agree! ugh. There are blogs that have a button at the top that says "jump to recipe" or something like that. Those are my favorites. lol. Otherwise I just scroll straight to the bottom. My one exception to my general annoyance with recipe blogs is Urvashi Pitre's blog, Two Sleevers. Link below. First of all she has a "jump to recipe" box right at the top. But also she doesn't go on an on. She'll sometimes tell about her process of developing the recipe, like "the first time this happened, second time this did, but third time's the charm" or something like that. And often she'll give interesting information about Indian spices or dishes. And besides all that, she's a very nice person. And her videos are very informative. Urvashi Pitre's blog Two Sleevers

I'm with you. And I am sick of being redirected or having ads pop up that I can't get rid of, too. I get that they need to make money, but the ads need to be less intrusive.
