MSP has partnered with Hero Arts (the Misti is in their 2018 catalog) and it actually taints my perspective of them because of her reputation. I truly think this was a VERY bad business move on their part. Crop Chocolate was a really good daily sales site...the moment they announced their plan to merge with Oh My Crafts their sales plummeted something like 60% because of the reputation of OMC. Even after deciding to not follow through on the merger, the damage was done. Crop Chocolate ended up going bankrupt because of their decision to tie their brand with such a terrible company. I think that Hero Arts is big enough that they aren't going to go out of business because they carry the MISTI, but I agree that it taints my perspective of them. Aren't Jennifer M and Lydia (from Splitcoast) both part of Hero Arts' design team? Although, perhaps with Hero Arts behind it, there will actually be some sort of customer service for the defective ones. I agree it won't ruin them...but I hope they don't sell well and don't renew with msp.

My understanding is she's partnering with Hero Arts HA not Hampton Arts HA. Hampton Arts is the company that produced a stamping tool. I always get confused when the initials are used for these two companies.

Personally for me, I wanted the MISTI. She has sizes that fit my needs. I like the pink. I don't want a religious quote on my product. Sorry, I am not trying to be a hater. I don't want any quotes on certain products and a stamp press would be one of them. I won't buy from her. I don't trust her. She has already shown me that she doesn't care about me as a customer or would provide good customer service. She is too busy suing everyone to worry about flaws on her own press. I wanted a Misti desperately at the beginning when she was still selling off her site but there were already customer rumblings about cracking covers so I decided to wait. When those customers weren't getting appropriate help, I decided to wait until other options appeared. But please, what is the religious quote on the Misti? I'm just so curious now!!!

FurryP Thank you for posting the quote. kitbop It is found on the hinge. It is not right in your face. When you are stamping you are not really looking directly at it. That would go over really well, lol. When I first heard about the quote I just wanted to know where it was and what it was. Amazon, Scrapbook.com and all the major sites she carries this platform on did not have the quote or pictures of the quote on the hinge. I could not find it on her website. Then a few months after people started complaining in a very hard to find spot she puts the quote in one of her FAQ's. I am like "Lady, that is deceptive as all get out!" On all my Misti posts the girls can tell you this quote thing really sets me off, lol. Hero Arts news- That is kind of upsetting. Why didn't she just sell to them and get it over with? She could have made some residuals too for the life and trend of her platform. This news puts a different perspective on her lawsuit. I can't see how this is affecting her company since she just partnered with a big company. Tonic's lawyers are going to use that as proof her company is not failing but she just rebranded.

How is this partnering with Hero Arts different from her just selling to companies like Simon Says Stamp? Are they supporting an upgraded design or branding it in some new way?

How is this partnering with Hero Arts different from her just s melling to companies like Simon Says some new way? My guess is that Hero Arts will be manufacturing and distributing the MISTI to retailers like SSS.

I'm sorry to hear that about Hero Arts. They used to be my favorite stamp company, but between this partnership and their declining customer service, they've slipped more than a few spots down on my list. I'm pretty sure Lydia, Jennifer, and Kristina had a lot to do with the partnership. I don't like bullies, and I don't like people who hang around with and support them either.

I can’t believe that the lawsuit is still going. I will never, ever buy the MISTI or any products created by her. And it is because of her and her alone. Like many of you, I have witnessed her mean, vicious, UNCHRISTIAN threatening behavior towards members of this website ( don) as well as her customers; blaming them for her inferior product (cracking tops) and not giving them a replacement for free. I use to love Jennifer McGuire and Hero Arts; but once I realized that she and Hero Arts were supporting MSP; I became very cold toward them. I watch JM’s YouTube videos from time to time: but there are plenty of other talented YouTubers out there. And I have found other places to shop instead of Hero Arts. It’s really sad that the scrapbooking industry has changed so much since the 1980’s from being supportive of one another’s companies to help grow the craft. Creative Memories never sued anyone (that I know of) and they were the first scrapbooking company out there. They never blamed their customers for products not working, they replaced them. This industry has gone from allowing everyone to have fun seeing and creating new items and learning new techniques to suing and trying to destroy anyone who does not agree with or buying this one product. Okay, I will get off my soapbox.

For those surprised that the lawsuit is or may still be going, don't be. The courts are clogged with lawsuits because we live in a "lawsuit happy" society, and the process is slow. Also, a person who files a lawsuit can keep it going as long as they have the money to pay the lawyers, even if the lawsuit hasn't got a solid basis. I don't think this lawsuit has any hope of accomplishing what she presumably wants it to do. I assume she is trying to squelch the competition and/or get some of their piece of their stamp press profits through the lawsuit. However, while she has been trying to tie everything up in the courts, her competitors have come up with stamp presses which are as different from her MISTI as the MISTI was from the WRMK letterpress. It's foolish to underestimate human ingenuity. You can't thwart the competition for long.
If she had refrained from suing everyone who came out with a stamp press, she would probably still be doing well financially, even though sales have dropped. Her suing the company that made a blatant identical copy was understandable, but not her pursuit of Tonic. Their stamp press was different enough, and they were big enough, that they were bound to stand up to her.
I am surprised that Hero Arts is carrying the MISTI, but I think they will survive any negative backlash from MSP's lawsuit. It is obvious that some people still prefer the MISTI. Individuals who were hesitant to buy the MISTI from MSP because of her reputation for poor customer service might consider buying it from Hero Arts. I won't be. I am happy with my Tonic stamp press, although I might consider buying the Stampin' Up stamp press. Their idea of a moveable hinge to create borders (or even just multiple stamps of an image for multiple cards) is brilliant.

MSP sales were bound to decline since they’re selling one product to a niche market. Once a person has a MISTI they aren’t going to buy another one in the near future. For those who got the POC ones that cracked the terrible customer service was going to send them elsewhere for a replacement. That is not the fault of Tonic or any other company. There just aren’t that many stampers and crafters out there anymore. I always wondered why she didn’t sell the business to one of the big companies. She probably would have done pretty well.

I’m really surprised that Hero Arts would do this. It feels like the Misti wave is over. Unless they do a a pretty big design revamp I can’t imagine why anyone would buy a new Misti. I also can’t see why they would partner with such a controversial person. I have always liked Hero Arts products especially their inks. Since I had a cracked Misti and have friends who had no recourse when theirs cracked this makes me not want to do business with them. Also they have touted themselves as a Made in the USA green company. The Misti is definitely not green. Wonder if the Bible verse will continue.

I don't think hero arts is actually collaborating with MSP. I think they're just selling the tool in their store, like they would sell any other non-ha brand item. Does anyone have a link that shows more information about a supposed partnership?

What did she do?
I wish that all of these MSP supporters would come here and see for themselves Misti bullying, from the owner. I had absolutely no opinion about her or a stamp platform until I saw how she herself acted on that Misti thread. That sealed the deal for me. I certainly don't wish anyone harm but when you are that nasty you reap what you sow.

I think a few of the designers have some kind of contract with MSP. I know at one time, one of them mentioned fear of legal action when they were asked why they don't use other brands of positioners.

Honestly, I have mentioned this before and I feel it is spot on. It makes absolutely no sense otherwise, especially with Jennifer McGuire. She is big on kindness and collaboration. During some convention last year (I don’t remember which one), she made multiple Instagram posts and comments about how great collaborations is, how well all the different companies who basically sell the same thing get along, etc. To me the only thing that makes sense is she signed a contract or has been threatened with a lawsuit. Her husband writes patents for a living, she knows how they work. She has to know the MISTI is a a revamped printing machine.

She talks A LOT about kindness (and kudos to her for doing it). But kindness includes NOT bullying people who are making home made MISTIs FFS! I have much less issue w/Petunia going after the Hampton Arts press - it was really similar. Although, as others have mentioned, aren't all guillotine cutters similar too? I have much more of an issue w/Petunia going after Tonic. And I have A HUGE issue w/her going after homemade devices. J McGuire needs to take a long hard look at what she preaches vs. how her besties act - and maybe preach a bit more to them.

I’ve also heard in videos people say that several different stamp companies dye inks are the same formulation, that pretty much the only thing that differs are the colors and the names. Yet lots of YTbers have all those inks.

So why is that okay, but not using the different stamp presses? To me, using Hero Arts and Lawn Fawn inks are like using the MISTI and the Hampton Arts one that was pulled. Same product, different brand name.

I think what's happening there is that the ink companies are all whitelabeling from the same base manufacturer, not that they're ripping off a formula or case design.

Yet lots of YTbers have all those inks. This is very true. I got that info from VivaLasVegas Owner. He told me just a few years back that only two or three ink companies make all the inks. Then they sell them to other stamp companies under different names. This is the same for embossing powders. I was so happy to found that out. It made me a better consumer purchasing my ink and embossing powders. I also read the same thing over at SplitCoastStampers from seasoned stampers who have been stamping for many years. Then I read the same info over at one of my art forums. I don't remember which forum at the moment (bad migraine). On the topic of HA. I am not going to hate on them for partnering with her. She should have sold or partnered a long time ago. I am sure it was not an easy decision for them with her reputation. All the big companies are releasing presses now. HA probably decided it was best to partner with her than make their own and risk a lawsuit. I do hope they lawyered up very well and watching her like a hawk. I am still flummoxed how she is stating that Tim is destroying her sales when this is now cancelled out because she just partnered with a company? Like I said I am not going to pretend I know anything about patent/company laws.

Not a lawyer or anything but I don't get the similarity. Not any different to me than a Sizzix Big Shot, Cuttlebug, WRMK Evolution. Or the differences between a Cricut and Silhoutte. They are similarly shaped. I mean it would be as silly as Tonic suing Stampin Up because they both have removable lids.
I mean what she could have done is asking for royalties on any Tonic stamp platform. She could have received licensing fees. That is so common. Look at cell phones. There is all kinds of licensing going on to advance the industry.

There are some here who have both platforms, hoped they could get rid of their MISTI, but had issues with the Tim Holtz platform. The MISTI just works better for them. That does not make them MSP fans. I see no reason to assume that JM is loyal to MSP over TH. He seems to still be friends with her in spite of it, from what I have gathered.

Exactly this. When I had my retail store, I created a logo design and ordered the exact range of colors I wanted to sell in my store private labeled just for me from Stewart Superior. It was the exact same ink that many, many other companies were also selling under their own brands, only I made a little more money by ordering them direct from the manufacturer instead of from a middleman.
