Thanks for checking on me bc2ca. We are looking pretty good right now. I'm not seeing nearly as much smoke today as I saw when I got home last night. The winds are mild right now, but they will ramp up as afternoon comes on.

I'm hoping the weather reports are wrong and the winds aren't as bad tomorrow as they are predicting. Hoping they die down sooner too. I noticed that it got extended until Saturday now . Praying no more fires start and that there are no injuries and no more structures lost. Hoping the winds stop and the firefighters can contain the fires. This has been a crazy year here in so cal.

There are supposed to be strong windstorms throughout most of So. Cal. tomorrow. Stay safe everyone!!
BREAKING Fire chief Ralph Terrazas says Los Angeles faces the highest risk of wildfire tomorrow that he’s seen in his entire 31 year career.

I'm so sorry California. I've spent many days in the Ventura area. To be so close to the water yet unable to do anything with it has to be frustrating. My heart breaks for their losses. Hope the winds are not as bad as anticipated.

This was a rough day for so many. My brother drove through Ventura this afternoon, and the hills right along the 101 were on fire. I cannot believe how far and fast the fire moved in a day. oh yvonne and malibou , I'm so sorry for what your families and friends are going through. It's going to be a long night. No doubt we'll wake up to news of more fire outbreaks. One fire captain who was interviewed said that there is no possibility of controlling any fires under tonight's conditions. It is so frightening to wonder if your neighborhood will be the one in tomorrow's news. Luckily the winds here in the foothills of east LA County have been mild so far.

How is everyone doing today? oh yvonne? malibou? LeaP? We have two fires in San Diego County now, one about 10 miles NE of us, so our sky has gone from blue to gray. 😟

I heard of two fires that started in OC last night but they were quickly put out and monitored thankfully.
I volunteer for my sorority 's chapter at UCLA and the campus is open but classes are canceled. We've been working with our women to ensure that they have an emergency plan in place and are taking active steps to prepare in case of an evacuation. There is a fire about 5 miles from the campus.

I am discovering I know quite a few people affected by the Lilac (Bonsall) fire. As it moves westwardly, many of our friends are in the voluntary evacuation area. Scary!

He thought the fire was more than 5% contained. Our house is in the not posh part of the San Fernando Valley so not a lot of brush to burn. I hope everybody is safe.

So sorry for those affected and those who lost their homes. We have close family quite affected by smoke and they stayed indoors today. Another family member was under mandatory evacuation but they didn’t go. Their choice I guess but hard to fathom why. Lives are way more important than things.

She finally checked in with us, they are evacuated and her and her DH are manning radios during all this. From my home in TO we watched the hillsides in Fillmore erupting night before last. That's the fire that's grown into Ojai.
This nightmare seemingly is not ending.
I have to say, I have been so heartened by all the people/local businesses pitching in to help. A local high school in Oxnard, the students started their own donation center w/food clothing etc.
My sister in law's girlfriend who is an RN with her at the hospital lost her entire home. She's a single momma with three little girls under the age of 7. I'm friends with a Pea on FB, and she PM'd me asking to help them. I'm just so touched be the generosity of people.
To all my fellow So Cal pea friends here who are also affected, stay safe! Someone is setting these fires, has to be. I know its SA winds, but this is unprecedented. Not like this.
sorry for all the edits. I'm running on very little sleep.

We decided to go to a friend's house last night after the evacuation boundaries were updated and we were on the border of the mandatory/voluntary evacuations. I knew I wouldn't sleep at home, but mostly didn't want to deal with a middle of the night call to get out. The Lilac Fire was knocked down dramatically overnight and helicopters continued to drop water all day. We are still under a voluntary evacuation alert and the winds are forecast to kick back up tomorrow morning. Most of the area burned is rural with one of the largest thoroughbred training operations in CA. San Luis Rey Downs was completely destroyed and it was a nightmare with trailers not being able to get past the roadblocks to get the horses out. Two trainers were injured, many horses died, many were set loose before the trailers were allowed in and hundreds transported to the Del Mar Racetrack and other facilities. www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/wildfire/sd-me-fire-horses-20171208-story.html

It has been a very long week for me so far. I’m in Idaho, but my DH still lives in our house in Santa Paula and my in laws live in the hills of Ventura. Both were evacuated, but have since been let back home and the houses are fine. My in laws were very lucky, the house above them burned and several in their neighborhood burned, but theirs was spared. It’s been a very helpless feeling watching this unfold from another state. Prayers to everyone affected. My DH took this from the balcony of the bedroom as he was evacuated.

Thank goodness they were spared too. I was so happy Painted Pony Farm survived. The owner stayed behind after the wife was evacuated and he fought off alone. The fire is not near being over, it marches on to Carpinteria and Santa Barbara. I went to a party on Saturday night in Ventura and everyone there sadly, knew people/family who lost homes. Its surrreal to drive into town and see hillsides that once were dotted with homes.

The winds have really picked up again today. They're fighting the Thomas fire on eastern and western fronts that are 40 miles apart. It may end up being California's largest fire ever. One firefighter has died.
The Santa Barbara area has more evacuation orders. Today is going to be a rough one. I hope that they are able to contain it. Praying for all who are in harm's way.
