Ventura County and the northern part of Los Angeles County are being hit hard right now with 27,000 evacuated and 150+ structures burned so far because of fast moving wildfires.
Hope no peas or any of your loved ones are caught up in this disaster

Ventura is my hometown. Sadly, my brother and his family had to be evacuated very early this morning. They are safe but no word on his home. It was in the path of the fire.

Sadly it looks like a typical wildfire that jumps between properties, taking some houses out and leaving others standing. I hope they get news on their house soon.

This is very sad. I pray that everyone is going to be OK and that the fires are quickly contained. Enough is enough, mother nature.

The Sylmar Fire is 12 miles from my house. The kids had to shelter in place today at school and it is raining ash.

This is terrible. I thought we were through with fires but the winds kicked up again and the new fires are spreading rapidly. My prayers go out to my fellow Californians and their families.

I can't imagine the fear, heartbreak and frustration. Sending prayers that the wind dies down and fire is controlled.

It looks like the intense winds are going to continue tonight. My thoughts are with those in harm's way right now. LeaP, stay safe! You might consider getting out of the ash fall zone if you can. We had a severe fire near us when the kids were in elementary school, and they suffered from lung problems for months afterwards.

Praying for everybody affected by these awful fires. I'm also in California, but about 50 miles away from the closest one. We can see the smoke but don't smell it.

We Aussies are all too familiar with bush fires, they're a regular thing here every year. My thoughts are with all in California who are affected by the terrible fires, the devastation is just mind boggling.

oh yvonne and I have had our schools close due to all the ash. Yesterday the kids sheltered in place. I just got home last night from Indiana and I could see a devastating amount of smoke from the plane. And just as I was typing that out my son came and told me our friends lost their house. Stay safe peeps.

My entire family lives in Ventura, so many we love are affected. Its been a hellish two days I've barely slept. So far my parents and brother's homes are safe. My cousin is mandatory evacuation, she left when she saw flames from her kitchen window. Right now they don't know if their home is standing. We've got family friends whose home is on a street that has been hit hard, but so far their home is standing thank God. I'm further north up in the Conejo Valley and yes, our kids are kept home due to air quality. Thankfully the winds are much calmer today, but expected to pick up again tonight, and this Santa Ana wind condition not over until Friday. My heart breaks for my beautiful home town. Ventura sits on the coast and backed up by the mountains and Ojai is right behind. The fire has hit the coastline and now is traveling up North. Here are some pics. My heart is heavy. Thank God for Facebook. We keep each updated on news on the latest events, checking up on each other. Restaurants donating meals, people volunteering their horse trailers. Gah, I get a lump in my throat just typing this. Beautiful and terrible. Painted Pony Farm in Santa Paula. This lovely farm hosts children at their little camps every year. Dahlia loved(s) i there. I just got word they were spared. this is the same rose arbor arch this is the farm look how lovely this is my home town and through the ashes, our Cross stands

There was a huge apartment complex that burned down, so one structure but many families affected.

Stay safe everyone! Just saw that there is now a fire in Bel Air. And I hate some of the comments on the articles about the fire. I don’t understand how people can be so cruel.

i woke up to the new one in West Los Angeles near the Getty Museum. i hope the fire can stay away from the Museum. A few homes in Bel Aire have burned so far. I live about 8 miles south of this and the fire smell was strong in the air.

Affected by smoke here... and we're having new windows installed right now. Small potatoes compared to what others are facing, but our air quality is horrible. My heart is heavy for all who have lost/ are losing/ will lose their homes and I pray for no loss of life. HUGE DEEP RESPECT to the brave firefighting personel on the ground and in the air.
PLEASE stay safe everyone, evacuate if told to do so! I'm thinking of you all.

oh yvonne thanks for sharing the photos. They really show the devastation and destructive power of a wildfire. papersilly The Getty is closed today to go into fire protection mode and limit smoke penetration into the buildings. It helps that steel and travertine are the main building materials. Still, I'm sure everyone is holding their breath and watching the fire closely. I hope the smoke is blowing out to the Pacific and not sitting in the valleys malibou and LeaP. I don't think the Santa Ana conditions are supposed to break before Friday. 😥

I have a friend in Ventura who had to evacuate, but she says so far she believes her neighborhood is still standing. oh yvonne, thanks for the photos. How completely devastating. My thoughts remain with those in Ventura and Bel-Air and wherever else these fires are hitting.

Thank you everyone, for your kind words of support. Thanks malibou, I will, you are so kind. We are good for now, I spoke w/my mom earlier and she is volunteering today at the local hospital. A local vet over there has posted on FB that she will see any pets who are suffering as well. Argh, that made me cry. The love, the love the love, gets me every time.
