Okay, any preferences on length? Also, what games have you played before (in general, just to get a sense as some board games are a bit more complicated or rules-heavy)? No preference, it is not actually for me, but for a gift. They just really like games and live pretty remotely, so need ones they can play as a couple and when they have company. They have all the classics, so looking for something new and unusual. I can't think of any Poe or Alice themed games, but I have a zombie suggestion plus a couple others: Zombie game: Run Fight or DieOthers: SplendorPandemic or Pandemic: The Cure

We have the majority of classics and as we retired earlier this year I’d like to start a weekly board game day/night Thanks catmom and for asking Skellinton Most of the games I suggested to Skellinton and upthread should work well for you, but let me know if you would like some other suggestions.

catmom what a great list! Does your family play a lot of games or is your expertise work-related?

catmom what a great list! Does your family play a lot of games or is your expertise work-related? Thanks! DH and I play a lot of games, mostly just the two of us. A few years ago I noticed we were spending more and more time on devices and not actually interacting with each other. One night I got a text from DH wanting to know what I wanted for dinner. I was sitting right beside him! I decided that was it and I began a quest to gather a few board games so that we could spend more analog/unplugged time together. Four years later and I have an embarrassingly large collection of games - a little over 100 at this point (Shhh - DH doesn't know the count). The diversity and quality of games available now is extraordinary and I love suggesting something that might be a family's next gem.

Pictureka is fun with younger kids. My boys loved playing it when they were younger. It's an easy game for kids to play with just other kids and it's fun with adults playing, too.
Headbands and 5 second rule are favorites in our house too.

Spot It is loads of fun, fast paced, and can be played 9 different ways ( I think it's 9). It comes in a small tin so it's portable, too.

I agree with many that have been mentioned, like Sequence, Yahtzee, and Uno. We also enjoy Life, Sorry, Ticket to Ride, Jenna, and Farkle that should all work with two or more players. I’ve put Chronology on my list too, which looks fun and would work for two people but their kids might be too young to be successful at this.

Forbidden Island is our family favourite. It takes about 25 min once you know how to play. My kids started at 8 and 11. My then 8 year old easily taught friends.
Rummikub is also great.

Apples to Apples Is great, but cannot be played with only 2 people. Watching this thread though, trying to find games for only 2 people is difficult. We like patchwork for two people
