This isn't the best picture, but I have the Willow Tree nativity. Every year, I add to it. This year I'm either going to get the Bagpipe player or the shepherd with stable animals. a bagpipe player? I have the same nativity (with the Shepard and animals) and I add some uniquely me things Here he is Zampognaro
I'll admit, I had never heard of a bagpipe player in a nativity before, but now that I've seen him, I want him for my collection

I hope I can post photos today--always a challenge. However, my set is about 50 years old. Was made for me by a friend, and I've displayed it every Christmas. Baby Jesus' hand is slightly chipped as my DD would turn Him in the crib when she was a toddler saying:"Baby Jesus gone nite-nite." She is now 48 years old. I love this story. Those little imperfections that sustain memories. When I was a kid, I ruined my grandma's buffet by placing a jar of Magic Rocks (remember those crystals that grew in the fluid?) on the wood top. When I removed it, I had burned a nice little ring right into the wood. My grandma never had it repaired. She said it would always remind her of me. Now I don't know if she said this tongue-in-cheek, but she is long gone, and that story has survived, along with the ring on the buffet.

I like unpainted, hand carved nativity scenes. I have a few ones I've picked up overseas. This set is from a countryside town in South east Asia. The figures are about a foot tall and they have a dark wood finish. They are rustic and hand carved.

I love these, I have an aunt that collected ones from different countries. I'll post mine tomorrow. I have a wall sign vinyl thing and then a small figurine.

Dd has a few of the precious moments mini nativity. I've been looking on ebay to get her some more pieces. I had no idea they were so popular. Most of them have lots of bids . I tried to get a few of them but was outbid every time at the last second. I decided to wait until after Christmas and see if they would be less in demand. and then, whats up with that tiny little wall?

I got out the Christmas boxes this afternoon and have been setting a few things out. Here are a couple more of the nativity sets I have collected. The first set is a small, handcarved set I picked up in Munich a few years ago. It is tiny, but so very pretty! This set is from our time in Johannesburg. It's a Zulu nativity set. The second photo is what came in the set. The tree and angels are pieces that I picked up in the markets there. The wood bread board is something from our time in Zaire (now Congo). A friend and I ventured out to a small village where the woodcarver lived near the border of Cabinda. One of the crazier things I've done in my life! Anything to add to my collection of bread boards!

My nativity was my mom's in the 1950's when I was growing up. I added some pieces to it. When I was a child I went to Newberry's Department Store to buy 2 wise men; we had one. I ended up buying one almost the same as the one we had and one that went to a much larger set. So I no longer use the oversized one but I do have the 2 wise men that are basically the same.
