Well looks simple...and you try it...and it looks weird...lol. that's my luck. Anyone else?
Tried making these wine glass lamps using pattern paper, wine glass and battery operated light. No where near what the ones on Pinterest look like..lol

I don't think I've seen that one. But Pinterest fails are some of my favorite searches!

Yea those Are! Not mine! Lol Come on, you know you want to show us A few years ago I tried to make some ornaments for my animal print loving cousin. They were leopard print tissue paper decoupaged onto plain glass ornaments. A little bit of glitter and a bow, totally adorable! That was the intent anyway. The reality? Not so much. I spent so much time, money and energy on those puppies just knowing how much she would love them. Total fail. I wish I had taken a photo so I could put it on Pinterest as a warning to all others who attempted it, because I have *no* idea how they got it to work. Not following the provided written directions, that's for sure!

I've made those. Was there a pattern to follow for the paper part? Maybe it got skewed when printed?

I actually bought a template to make those. Long ago, at a scrap expo. The sample was thick vellum, and my copycat version came out pretty well (also used thick vellum). If you're not in super rush to make them, pm me and I'll mail it to you.

Show us yours? Maybe we can help with what went wrong. It's really hard to keep the paper absolutely flat, and creases show.
ETA: Well OK I can see the problem. The template is rubbish - those shades cannot have been made using it. The measurements from the top to the bottom of the shade need to be the same all round, and that template is longer at the join than the middle. It can't possibly work.
But I Googled "wine glass lampshade template" and there are loads of good ones to pick from. Have another go?
That makes me cross. How can Good Housekeeping magazine get away with publishing that level of tripe? And there is no comments section for people to give feedback. It just shows that the Budget Decorator didn't bother to test its links either. What a waste of a crafter's valuable time.

Well you certainly have to dig deeper than Pinterest makes out to get the effect it shows. Pfft.

When I tried printing the template, it was ok - could be the difference between US and Europe standard paper sizes and scaling the print. However, the description on Pinterest is completely bogus. Fabric is going to be way too limp and will never hold the shape of the lampshade. You either need to starch it very heavily, use fabric stiffener on it, or use some stiff iron-on interfacing or possibly even iron it to some freezer paper. Or, just use paper to begin with.

cbet Are we looking at the same Pinterest link? The one the OP posted says nothing about fabric except in a user comment. Neither of the articles it links to mention fabric. Or paper, come to that! The template looks as if someone has drawn around a tea plate and a dinner plate to get curves, but they aren't in proportion with each other.

I swear nothing is quite how it looks on Pinterest 😏 I think people who post the projects are professionals. They make it look so easy, but they really have 8 people behind the scene helping put the darn thing together. Kind of like the TV chefs. Then they sit back in their comfy chairs, look at the Pin count of their projects and laugh hysterically!

The template looks as if someone has drawn around a tea plate and a dinner plate to get curves, but they aren't in proportion with each other. I was looking at the comments that mentioned fabric - too much stuff on Pinterest like that, where someone posts a picture and adds a comment about how they "think" the thing was done or what "might" work and after it gets repinned, people think that comment is the instructions! (Remembering the silver thumbprint necklaces that you could order, that suddenly started showing up on Pinterest with a note to try them in salt dough. Yeah, not going to work!) The first link tells you next to nothing, but when you follow the link in that article to the good housekeeping article, it tells you to use scrapbooking paper and led tealights (thank heavens, real ones with paper shade = fire). And I thought that template printed out ok for me, the ends matched up ok and it looked like a lampshade, but when I fold the thing into 4ths, it is off.

Needing gifts for the girls in my office. By tomorrow. Was hoping this was it. Nope!

Google for tutorials on YouTube! It may have templates in the show all down button or in the user comments.
