how extremely irritated I get when a store I frequent moves everything around? It was fine the way it was! A place I regularly order from changed their menu today too. I think it was just too much change for one day!

Nope. I have a Target within ten minutes in any compass direction. They each have different designs, one is a regular store and others Super. One renovated to the Department store model last year. It's the most convenient to me and other errands. I HATE it and rarely go there. I don't want to wander around. As cute as Target is I want to get in and get out. They also have more accent/ mood lighting. Bring back mix of daylight and fluorescent like a normal big box store! Um yeah. I guess I have too strong emotions about this

I work retail and I move stuff all the time. All.the.time. And it's part of my job to move it all the time. Stores get layout patterns they are supposed to follow according to headquarters and they get shown what to put where. We did that at my old job for 4 hours one night just moving the stuff around completely. Drove our customers crazy but what could we do?

Costco does this. It's frustrating. I understand why it's done, but I hate it.

I was going to say Costco, too. I swear they move the cases of Propel every week. I have even asked the stock guys "where did you hide the Propel this week?"

Stores want you to wander a bit, just in case you stumble upon something you might buy on impulse.
I hate it. When I shop, I want to get to what I came in there for, and leave. I hate searching around for it!

I think it was just too much change for one day! Define "extremely". As long as not real extreme, no, normal. Even the stores that are mirror images of their same counterparts are irritating. Gotta think when you go in what's left, what's right in this particular store. When they move things, sometimes I think it's done to keep you there thus buy more. Depending on mood and how much time I have it sometimes has reverse effect on me- out of there asap.

Rearranging stores make me a grumpy shoppers. But, they do research on stuff.. it is something like the average shopper spends $7 for every minute they are in a store. Moving things means you are in the store longer AND you are more apt to make impulse purchases when you see things you previously walked on past without giving it a second glance.

I would NEVER go off on anyone. I realize that is just what some corporate office is telling them to do. Extremely irritated, as in, I leave without buying much (if anything). What can I say, I like routine. There must be someone that likes it or they wouldn't keep doing it.

Costco makes me crazy. I guess I don't shop there enough to learn layout. Most of the time I leave without half the stuff I came for cause I couldn't find it.

Moving things means you are in the store longer AND you are more apt to make impulse purchases when you see things you previously walked on past without giving it a second glance. Ha! Allow me to mess with their statistics then. My grocery store does this ALL the time, and when I complain it's always "that comes from Corporate." grrrr.... Yes, I understand that it does but one shred of sympathy from the store manager would probably put me in a better mood. But I write my grocery list by aisle, and if I've walked past something because it wasn't in its regular aisle I'm not likely to go back unless I really REALLY need it that evening for dinner. All the main stuff is around the edges anyway -- dairy, produce, meat. And now that the clerks have taken to asking "did you find everything you need?" I LOVE answering "no, in fact, since you moved everything I couldn't find [whatever] and I'm not going searching." The problem though with that response is that it's not the poor clerk's fault. Even if they helped with the moving it surely wasn't their idea. They're the ones who have to deal with us frustrated customers and I bet they'd vote to have everything stay the same all the time. lol

I just wish that Publix would be consistent from store to store. I hate going into a new (read: different than *my* Publix) because nothing is in the same place and it takes me twice as long to do my shopping because I can't find anything. But, I am a "who moved my cheese" kind of girl, and I prefer my cheese in the same place every time, thankyouverymuch.

Drives me nuts. I knew the layout of my Target like the back of my hand, and now everything is moved around and makes no sense to me. I searched high and low for doormats the other day and never found them. Sadly, even two employees of the store didn't know where they might be.

It does irritate me a bit. Luckily, the stores I hit regularly (Aldi, Wegmans, Target) tend to do big, giant move arounds only every so often, and otherwise things stay the same.
I shop while DS is in speech, which means I have 2 hours to do everything I need to do. If I have to search things out, that's going to mess me up.
So I appreciate that they don't move things around too often.

Changing up grocery stores can be frustrating. Other retail it's sort of nice because if they don't then all you hear is people complaining that they never seem to have anything new. And if it is not new then why isn't it on sale. It's not on sale because it is only one month into the season and it's not their fault you come in every week and see the same sweaters in the same spot.
Poor retailers damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Bugs me too. My grocery store just did another remodel and I'm having trouble finding things. Truth be told, it paid off for them. I did indeed throw one or two things in my cart that were not on my list simply because I saw them while I was traversing the store for the 6th time trying to find what was actually on my list.
And it would be nice if every store had everything grouped similarly, you know? I have to do a mental rundown before I walk into each one as to where this particular store has bar soap (one has it w/the health & beauty and another has it near dish liquid), or bottled water (one has it w/soda and the other has it w/juice). <sigh>

It's been over 5 years and I'm still annoyed by the layout of a grocery store, Meijer. They built a whole new one RIGHT NEXT DOOR, literally and then tore the old one down. The new one is smaller, has a different layout than the other Meijer (same city), and a horrible selection of stuff. As far as I knew, there was nothing wrong with the old one. Now the land just sits there, unused complete with a huge parking lot. I think it'd be awesome if they'd let Home Depot build there but it's been at least 8 years and nothing has been done. I will drive to the one that's further away because their selection is better and the layout hasn't been f'd with.

It gets on my nerves too. I don't like to hunt for things in a store. I don't shop as much as I once did, and I certainly don't spend as much time just browsing around a store. I want to get what I'm after and go about my business. Another thing I don't care for is when stores suddenly stop carrying products I like, for no particular reason. Staples does this with their printer ink and it drives me off the deep end that I have to order it online now.

It makes me crazy. When Is go to the grocery store I am on autopilot!
I was looking for a product and a store employee walked by and I asked where can I find "X" it's always been right here. So, he took me to the products new home. He said that it drives the employees crazy too. He said there is a lot of technology used to determine where products are placed and gave me a couple of examples (can't remember, old age) but it was interesting.

This is very true. I used to work P/T for The Children's Place. I'd be gone for a day and come back to find the store completely rearranged. And it happened all the time. Drove me batty.

I hate it when stores rearrange stuff too. The little market across the street from my house seems to be in a constant state of flux. I would hate working there, just constantly moving stuff for no reason!
Menu changes are frustrating too. One restaurant near my work always sold a certain chicken dish. It was so good. I called in an order last week for the chicken dish only to be told it's no longer on the menu. It's grilled chicken with lime and some seasonings, tomatoes and cheese. They still have everything in the restaurant to make it... but they won't because it's no longer on the menu. Makes no sense.

Ugh, our Stop and Shop did a huge remodel this year. They got a beer and wine license, so they added two complete aisles of liquor. Of course, they had to smoosh everything else in the already full store to fit it in. I was surprised how many items on my list weren't carried anymore. They added all the bread/peanutbutter and the tomatoes/avocados into areas that didn't used to have food. I walked out without bread a couple times before I figured out where they stuck it. It still annoys me.

The other day I was at the grocery store looking for raisins. I went up and down all the aisles twice before asking for help. First employee I asked sent me to aisle #11. Nope! Not there. At checkout the cashier asked if I found everything ok. I told her I was looking for raisins. She said "Aisle #11, left side." I went back and checked again. Nope. She went and looked too. We came back to the register and she said, "Ohhh yeaaaa! I forgot! We had that section reset. Check aisle #4."
Ay yi yi...

And when she goes there she always fills out the comment card and tweets her displeasure about the menu change. Hers is about the chocolate Heath bar milkshake -- no longer on the menu. They do offer chocolate milkshakes. And, as dd says, how hard would it be to stock some Heath bars? But nope, they won't make it. Dd says her meal of grilled cheese and milkshake has been ruined. lol. (doesn't stop her from going there and ordering the grilled cheese though.)
