I'm atheist. I don't pray. I don't pray for others.
I am in no way bashing, so please don't interpret this as that. But, when you post that you are praying, do you say a prayer? Or, do you pray all at once and then all the people that you said you were praying for get prayed for? Or is it just something to say on a post or card?
I'm just curious. So many people post "thoughts and prayers" and I'm just wondering if you really do?
I do remember someone on here that used to post a prayer and even though it's not what I believe, I thought that was sweet that she took the time.

Some people pray. Some people give thoughts. When you are hurting, and you know people are thinking about you and sending you good wishes, even if it’s just long enough to type a reply in a thread, it lifts your spirits a little (at least it does for me).

If I tell someone I am praying for them, then I do. Often just before typing that message. It's specifically about them, although I might add a "please find cancer cure" which is more general.

Not religious at all, but when I say I'll send a thought, I do right then and there. I also tend to make wishes for people, and that I do straight away as well. When there is an ongoing need for a person, I look for a trigger that will remind me to keep that person in my thoughts.

I do pray, either as I'm writing a response or at night before I sleep. If I know someone prefers not to be prayed for I will keep them in my thoughts and think about how to reach out to them (can I call, send a card, mark an anniversary etc).
It's not empty words to me.

Thanks! I see it so much, I do wonder if it's real. For myself, if I know the person, I call, text, email...I don't usually post on a post. If not, I move on.

I say I’m sending hugs and good thoughts. After I type it I think good and happy thoughts towards that person.

I’m an atheist, too, so I “keep” people in my thoughts. For example, it really pisses me off that compwalla has to go through this crap with cancer, so she often pops into my mind when I am peaisng (as my husband calls it).

I take a minute to pray before I type my response. I communicate that Im praying in my post as a way to let the person know that I am thinking of them during their difficult time. People are posting here because they want to be comforted so I try to respond to let them know the peas are here for them.

I stop and send energy to the best possible outcome for the person. I do believe that energy, either through prayer or thoughts, makes a difference in the lives of others.

I send a prayer out right then and there. This.. the request also gets added to my prayer journal that I keep. If I say I'm praying, I will be. Most likely multiple times.

I generally pray at night. And I even send out a general prayer for peas that might be going through something that they don't want to post about.

I pray at the time and later. Sometimes, when I know of someone going through really difficult issues, I will keep a little flameless candle going and whenever I glance at it I will pray. I keep it near me wherever I am working for the day.

There is no doubt in my mind that people who say they will pray, do it! I send/think good thoughts as I type but also if I should think of someone at another time. Some times I do a general big sending thoughts to those who need them.

It's not empty words to me. IF the need is critical, I have often sent the OP a message asking if they would like their/their loved ones name added to the prayer roll at my temple. No one has ever said no; I call the temple right away and have the name added. I also say a prayer myself.

I usually say a quick prayer, then post, and often include those who asked in general, or if it is an ongoing situation, specifically, in my morning prayers.

I stop right there and say a prayer. Sometimes, I write them down in a notebook and I pray each day. When prayers are answered, then I thank God and praise Him. If prayers are not answered the way I hoped they would be, then I changed my prayer, to comfort and help the person in need.
If I post that I am praying for someone, it means I said a prayer (before posting) and without a doubt, they can be assured that I am truly praying for them

I honestly think the overuse of it, has led to a degree of cynicism about it, of what I think is a sincere expression by those with faith.
I know when I see some politicians (like Trump) use it, I sort of cringe, finding it trite expression expected by a president - with no real genuine sincerity behind it. That's not to say that its a just political thing. When Clinton, Bush and Obama said the same thing I never got that feeling, I always thought when they said it - it was genuinely meant. But it can come off as a bit flippant and trite, depending on the person saying it.
When I see I expressed by those I know have genuine faith, I see it as a sincere expression of faith and goodwill towards a person, and feel no cynicism about whether its genuine or not.

I usually will start praying for whatever the need is on the spot. If I am in a hurry and just don't want to pass the thread/title/whatever.. at night I will send out a prayer for everyone that I encountered/read that day. I'm not perfect, sometimes I do forget but I do the best I can!
