We have a female teacher who was arrested for domestic violence but never convicted. She still teaches. The superintendent of schools said unless she was convicted there wasn't anything they can do.

It's about time. My first thought, though is that he would probably go home and take it out on his wife.

While I am very happy to hear that something has been done-finally-I am still angry that there have been multiple opportunities prior to now to have done the right thing. The man ASSAULTED her. There is no other word for it. Those tapes show it and have from the very beginning. Why has their been no law enforcement involvement? Surely there is enough evidence of for a battery charge? Something?? HE HIT HER HARD ENOUGH TO RENDER HER UNCONSCIOUS. He was arrested for simple assault charges. So was she. He was in indicted by a grand jury and the charges were upgraded to aggravated assault and charges against her were dropped. They got married the next day. He rejected a plea deal that would have kept him out of jail but on probation and taking anger management classes. He entered a not guilty plea and did some sort of first time offenders program that means the charges will eventually go away as long as he stays out of further trouble. This also kept him from having to go on trial.

I'm also worried about his wife after this. Ugh. This was my first thought as well. As for the comparison with Vick... I live in a house full of Eagles fans. I despise Mike Vick. I refused to ever buy his jerseys or anything with him on it when he was on the team. The difference that I see, in terms of whether Rice will be back in the league, is that Vick went to prison and served time for what he did. Rice's wife (gf at the time), dropped the charges so he will never serve time for what he did. I think it will be a harder sell to put him back in the league because of that. Not true. She didn't drop the charges. She said she didn't want to pursue the case, but that wasn't her decision to make. The state moved forward. He won't go to jail because he plead not guilty and was able to enter a first time offender's program that will eventually mean the charges go away as long as he completes it and stays out of trouble. Domestic violence charges do not require victim cooperation, thankfully. Obviously it's harder to prosecute without them (unless there's video proof), but you don't get to make that choice, which I think is to protect the victim.

They were talking on the radio about her not being willing to press charges and I didn't even question it. The same radio show said that there is audio of the incident that indicates when the man comes over to them in the video, he asks what is wrong and Rice tells him that she is drunk and passed out.

According to ESPN, Nike has now dropped its sponsorship of Rice. He also will be dropped from future editions of Madden NFL. Finally, the Ravens are offering to exchange Rice jerseys for other players' jerseys.

and why did she marry him? I read that she issued an apology for her part in the incident. Im not suggesting anything negative about this woman, but that she apologized for her part is what battered women do. I did it and I never thought in a million years that I would allow myself to treated that way or physically harmed. I was convinced I deserved what I got. Shes probably blaming herself for everything but there isnt anything in this world that would make her deserve getting the horrible physical treatment she got.

Here is her statement issued this morning on her instagram. I don't get the feeling she is leaving his ass anytime soon. (all spelling and grammar are hers)
"I woke up this morning feeling like I had a horrible nightmare, feeling like I’m mourning the death of my closest friend,” she wrote. “But to have to accept the fact that it’s reality is a nightmare in itself. No one knows the pain that hte media & unwanted options from the public has caused my family. To make us relive a moment in our lives that we regret every day is a horrible thing. To take something away from the man I love that he has worked his ass of for all his life just to gain ratings is horrific.
“THIS IS OUR LIFE! What don’t you all get. If your intentions were to hurt us, embarrass us, make us feel alone, take all happiness away, you’ve succeeded on so many levels. Just know we will continue to grow & show the world what real love is! Ravensnation we love you!”

Her Instagram just makes me so sad for her every time I read it. What exactly does she have to regret for that moment? The fact that she couldn't stay conscious after her head hit the rail? She sounds so much like a battered woman. Everything is her fault or everyone but her abuser's fault.

Personally, I believe Rice is being used as a scapegoat to make everything "ok" in the NFL. I think they need to get rid of Goddell. He had the power to punish Rice and he did with his two game suspension. I know that the players are supposed to set an example and are supposed to be role models. But Rice was "punished" with the two game suspension. Do you really think that getting rid of him makes everything in the NFL ok now? I don't. The NFL covered this up. Of course they knew what he did. Only time will tell what kind of person Rice is. Will he learn from this? He's young. What kind of man will he become? Will he serve time in his own personal H-LL and then come out ahead? Instead of making him the scapegoat, I'd like to see the NFL really take on this issue and bring it to the forefront. I live in Balto. a few minutes away from the Ravens training camp. Do you know what they are doing around here? A local jewelry store that sells Ravens jewelry is allowing customers to return their Rice jewelry. They can get a refund on it. For every dollar that is returned, they are making a dollar contribution to the House of Ruth. People can turn in their Rice jerseys and they are burned. That's just a bunch of cr-p. Do something that really makes a difference. Let the NFL help in a way that really makes a difference. Not just a difference that's a media publicity stunt.

Do something that really makes a difference. Let the NFL help in a way that really makes a difference. Not just a difference that's a media publicity stunt. No one I know thinks that the NFL is okay now. I haven't heard one newscaster at ESPN say they think that the NFL is good now. (ESPN is on most of the day as my background while doing stuff around the house & I spend my mornings with Mike & Mike) Most have publicly stated that they think that the NFL powers that be were purposefully negligent and/or lying about trying to obtain evidence in this case. I think Goodell should resign. He so badly handled this that there is no saving it/his reputation now. He will never be seen as a leader or a diligent judge of difficult issues again. He needs to go for the sake of the NFL. Again, many ESPN sportscasters think that he SHOULD go, but that he probably won't. All that said, Ray Rice is not a scapegoat, nor is HE a victim. He is a bully and an asshole who has knocked a woman unconscious at least once. Ray Rice hasn't had done to him by the NFL, the Ravens, the public, or the media even one iota of what he did to psychologically or physically Janay in that elevator. When Ray Rice is knocked unconscious and dragged around by his arms with his clothing being pulled in a revealing fashion, and then sort of kicked by someone as the elevator doors keep trying to close on him, and then I might see him as a victim. Having to suffer the indignity of merchants allowing customers to return merchandise with his name? Not so much.

I don't see Rice being made the victim because people can return his merchandise. I see the NFL and retail trying to treat the public like they are fools or something. Returning merchandise. Who cares. Showing t-shirts being burned on t.v. Big deal. None of that matters. Of course, what he did is terribly wrong. I'm just angry with the way that the media and retail turn it in to a spectacle. That's all. But I guess that's what we do in the good ole USA.

Personally, I think the NFL and Goddell really lost the ball on this one. They were both charged. The prosecutor dropped the charges against Janay. They offered Ray Rice a plea deal to enter a diversionary program for 1st time offenders that could allow him to clear his record of charges and would allow them to enter into family counseling. They got married a month later. Obviously for whatever reasons, Janay choose to continue the relationship.
Then Goddell issues his 2 game suspension. Goddell took heat for that slap on the wrist and changed the rules for domestic abuse among the organizations. BUT, when TMZ went public with the elevator video, the Ravens cut Ray Rice and Goddell followed in their footsteps 15 minutes later after he received a phone call from the Ravens organization letting them know what they had done. Goddell is changing the NFL policy on domestic abuse again, yet he hasn't said what the new policy will be.
I agree what happened between Ray Rice and Janay was wrong on both sides. The Rices, together, had made the decision of what was best for their family and had moved on. They accepted the terms from the prosecutor. They accepted the terms that were laid out by the NFL. Yet, when TMZ was able to obtain a copy of the video and made it public that the NFL or the Ravens staff never saw the video, the persecution started over again. In my eyes, this is like double jeopardy. The NFL made it's ruling, but to save face, they went deeper with the punishment.
So how did TMZ obtain that video? I read one theory that an employee of the casino, which closed their doors last week, sold it to TMZ. At any rate, it has made Goddell and NFL look like jackasses. And the Rices have to relive this again. But this time it is through the media. The doors they had chosen to close and move on with rebuilding their family, are now opened with a firestorm. I am angry at all of the media and hype. The family needs to heal. Goddell needs to resign. His methodology and style of changing the rules as he goes along is really getting on my nerves.

What if she had sustained brain damage from the hit on her head and being knocked out? the physical damage could have been way worse, and is in many cases of domestic abuse/violence
maybe these players are just in the mindset of super aggressiveness all the time...
