I like the name Austin. I had friends who were named after universities: Stanford (called Stan), Emory, Baylor.

I think it depends on what the name is - I love Austin, Dakota and Madison.

Some place names for babies seem like a new trend, but a lot of classic names were also place names -Charlotte, Alexandria, Lydia, Sharon, Carolina, Chelsea

I have a cousin named Austin and he was never named for the city, his parents just liked the boy name. Unless I'm told otherwise I assume the person is named for the city they were conceived in.

This is what I was thinking. Plus, many places were originally named for people, so it makes sense that people would continue to use those names for babies.

I don't mind them. However I have been known to snicker when families use all place names like: Londyn, Holland, Paris.
I'm more bothered by the misspelling of London to Londyn.

I like most of them. Didn't use one for either of my kids, but I don't roll my eyes at them like I do some other names!

I like most of them. Not really a fan of Paris, though.

I don't mind them.
Of course, I named mine after a president, so I don't think I have much room to talk.

I don't think any of those names are strange. Now, North or Blue.... those are strange.

Not a huge fan, especially if they're misspelled. Dallys. That one is like nails on a chalkboard.

Ron Howard's daughter Bryce Dallas was named after where she was conceived as well. Had we done that, DD would be named Toronto

I have had Austin's and Brooklyn's in my classes. The names don't bother me. I don't need to know that you named your child that name because they were conceived in them.

I like them in general although some seem more like pet names to me ... eg. Dakota is a great dog name Leanne

They don't bother me, but I am in the camp of I don't want to know that is where conception occurred.
DN middle name is Austin. DSIL said that is because she wanted his name to include something about Texas.

I like them. I know a set of brothers named Austin, Dallas & Tyler. I think it's cute (and very Texas like).

I didn't like them at one time but they don't bother me now. I like them better than being named after objects like Apple or Stone.

I tend to like traditional names, so I'm not a big fan of names like Dakota, Austin, Paris and Dallas.
I really don't understand why people feel like they have to announce to the world where there child was conceived.

I don't mind them anymore. Having taught for 14 years, I've seen all kinds. What really annoys me are the "nontraditional" spellings. It's bad enough when there are three kids with the same name in the same class. Having to remember which one is Britney and which is Brittany and which is Britnie gets old.
