My elderly mother fell and is recovering in rehab with a broken leg - . We are now looking into a fall alert system. We need a system that does not require a Home Security system. Thanks!

We have Mobile Help. I got it for my dad with the fall alert mostly though it comes with two bracelets so my mother has one as well and now that Daddy has passed away she could wear the fall alert around her neck that he used but she won't. I can't even get her to wear the bracelet most of the time.
Daddy wore the fall alert and it was helpful. The only issue was that it was easy to set it off. If you bend down too quickly, it alerts. He set it off accidentally a number of times. In those cases, Mother would just tell the responder over the intercom that it was a false alarm. However, when he needed it, he had it and he did fall just a few days before he died. He apparently fell slowly so it didn't go off automatically. When she didn't come for him, he pushed the button and that let her know he needed help. There was one false alarm where Mother didn't respond to the machine fast enough and they started calling people and went through the 3 numbers. They were professional and prompt.
It also came with a GPS based system which they used when they went out and he used when he was mowing grass something he dearly loved to do. In fact he was sneaking out to get on his mower when he fell that last time. (The fall was not the cause of his death.)
The system does not require a home security system, internet access or even a phone line. I can't remember but I think it works off a cell tower and we have 2 very close to their house.

We got Life Station for my mom about 5 years ago. Www.lifestation.comWe were very happy with the service & used it several times in the 3 years she had it before she died. I highly recommend that service.

Just some of things to look for:
1. Make sure the contract is a month-to-month or for a very short term. If it's not a MTM I'd recommend it be no longer a year and definitely not more than two. 2. Make sure you know who owns the equipment. Usually these type of systems are leased and the equipment goes immediately back to the company once you cancel, and that is fine. You probably don't want to keep it anyway. 3. Find out who pays if the system needs repairs. Normal usage repairs should be covered if the system is leased but sometimes they are not. Repairs due to misuse, damaged, lost parts are not usually covered in either case.
It's always good to know the details of the contract.

Your dad sounds like my dad. He was adamant he could mow the grass a week after he cracked his hip bone, since he has a riding lawn mower. We gave up and let him do it.
