My daughter (9 years old) has very dry, cracked hands. She has little scratch marks all over her hands from her scratching her itchy skin. Everything we have used so far stings her hands. We have tried Vaseline hand cream, Gold Bond for hands, O'keeffe's Working Hands and Egyptian Magic. She hates just pure Vaseline and Bag Balm because she doesn't like the greasy feeling.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a moisturizer that won't sting/burn dry hands?

Let her try creams at Bath & Body Works. They have small tubes that were marked down to $1.

Cetaphil cream. I have used it for years and started using it on my five year old this winter when hers got really bad. No complaints, and trust me- she would complain if it bothered her at all! eta- This one is what we have. I like it in the tube vs the larger tub you stick your fingers in (yuck).

CeraVe it's not super thick but it doesn't burn or have fragrance. I use it over eczema. Don't go to Bath and Body all that fragrance will burn.

I swear by Neutrogena Norwegian Formula hand cream. You only need the amount of an eraser on top of a pencil, and it doesn't sting or burn at all.

I agree. Steer clear of BB&W. Too much alcohol in that fragrance will make the cracks worse and burn like hell.
I'm a fan of Curel unscented lotion for sensitive skin. I also use the CeraVe face wash but haven't used the lotion yet.
If you can find some Melem in a little blue pot, that stuff is amazing. I found it on the ski slopes years ago when we needed something for chapped skin for my dd when she was little. It was so good we went back and bought four more pots. We just ran out last year. I saw it on Amazon I think but haven't bought anymore yet. It is great stuff tho.

I have some of this and its been great! I've got hand eczema and its been good for keeping it minimal. I use it all day even though it says its for night. Excipial Rapid Repair Cream- AmazonI actually found some at Dollar Tree and bought like 10 of them. I don't think I'll ever use them all! Also, she'll need to make sure to start putting lotion on after every handwash. Some of that stuff in public restrooms is seriously drying. And i recommend cotton gloves a night with a thick layer of moisturizer. It really makes a lot of difference. I actually made my own cream for wearing at night with gloves. Lots of different oils and butters that are good for the skin are in it and it helps, so it was worth it to me.

another vote for the Neutrogena Norwegian hand cream - it's the best for super dry winter hands it is thick and emollient so use just a little bit and really rub it in

I purchased No-Crack for my heels. no fragrance. It is very thick and no fragrance. Sometimes I put a dab on my hands and it works as a hand creme. The company makes something for the hands, but I have not purchased that.

I would wait till she goes to sleep at night, then go in and use the bag balm or vaseline on her hands while she sleeps. It will have soaked in well be the time she wakes so she won't notice the greasy feel. Or if she is ok with it, use it right before she goes to sleep as part of her good night/tuck in routine. I do like the Gold Bond (or WM gold bond knock offs) My preference is for the healing skin formula

If she hates the grease feeling (and really, who doesn't!?!) how about putting it on her at nighttime and then putting some cotton gloves on her hands? Could she sleep with the gloves on? SaveSave

I’m not much help. I make my own salve from calendula infused olive oil and beeswax for my DH’s dry cracked hands.

Udderly Smooth. No scent, absorbs fast, doesn't leave your hands feelings coated with oil or wax. I love it.

Inuse Aquaphor on my son’s hands when they are super dry. I just rub on the tops of his hands, not the palms. Agree with doing the thicker stuff at night.

a cheaper alternative to cotton gloves is boys cotton tube socks. Just wear them as mittens. You can figure out where to snip a thumb hole if it bothers her to not have the thumbs out. But that will help keep the heavier treatments off her bedding and stuffies if she sleeps with any.

another good one for cracked hands or feet is Working Hands

Vaselined up their noses when they slept! Go in a couple times. My nephew (other side of family) had a lip licking problem and the girls would say send him to grandma's, she'll cure him.

I have sensitive dry skin and I have to be really careful with fragrances because almost all of them will give me a migraine. Unless it's something naturally made like an essential oil fragrance, than I'm okay. I really love Everyone Lotion. I've tried so many different brands of hand creams and lotions over the years and this one is my all time favorite because it works. Even better it is cheap. I buy mine at Whole Foods because I shop there every week but you can buy it at Target, Walmart, and Amazon too. They used to sell it only in the huge 32 oz. bottles with a pump. I have one of those on my dresser in my bedroom. Target charges $10.99 for this size. Recently I bought a smaller size in a tube at Whole Foods for $5.99. The tube is 6 oz.
It comes in several scents. I have Lavender and Aloe. It smells incredible if you love lavender. It also comes in Mint and Coconut, Apricot and Vanilla, Cedar and Citrus and unscented.
The reason I love this lotion so much is because it melts right into your skin without any kind of residue left behind. Your skin feels incredible afterwards. So soft, smooth and incredibly moisturized. It works so well. On the bottle/tube it says 3 in 1 hands/face/body.

But that will help keep the heavier treatments off her bedding and stuffies if she sleeps with any. Last night I tried to put some Egyptian Magic on her hands while she slept. She woke up and it was like I had kicked a hornet's nest. She was ticked. This morning before she left for school I talked to her about wearing socks over her hands at night. She thought that was a funny idea and she might actually do it! Thank you so much for the suggestion. I learn of so many good ideas from the Peas. DD told me that the principal of her school noticed her hands and told her she should do something about them. Great, now I look like a piece of crap parent. I'm sure she didn't mention to him that I could fill a drug store shelf with moisturizers. Yesterday was a snow day and the kids were off school so I'm going to the store today to buy a few of the suggested products. Crossing my fingers that one of them doesn't sting.

My 12 year old does Aquaphor at night with old socks when her hands are bothering her. She always loves how soft they feel in the morning.

It's been in the 20s for a high most of the winter, with snow almost every day (mostly a dusting) so our hands are a mess. All last winter I used O'Keefe's at least twice a day and my hands weren't cracked all winter. If it's below 55 degrees, I have to use hand lotion or I get cracked hands. This year, nothing is working! I have to put greasy Cerave and gloves throughout the day because it's so painful. That doesn't sting for me, but it's gross, so I have to wear the gloves. I leave them on 30 min., take them off and wash my hands. It's inconvenient, but my hands hurt so much. I try to put hand lotion on every hour now to maintain once the cracks don't sting so much.
