when you pierce your paper, do you put something underneath the paper to cushion it and 'absorb' the needle? I have always done it on my craft mat but am getting holes in it LOL. i wonder if there's a sort of mat i can put underneath....there must be and I am simply ignorant, right?

I just use my computer mouse pad. And I have also used a piece of cardboard that Scrappy supplies were shipped in too.

I'm probably an idiot, but I use the pad of one of my fingers. I'm pretty careful though. It's just paper, so I'm not driving my needle through with a lot of pressure (yeah, maybe not my brightest idea ever)

I got a piece of thick fun foam in the kids section at Michael's It cost $1.00. That is my favorite paper piecing mat.

I have some foam from packaging that I use. It's at least 1/4" thick. I have also had luck with these tools: link

I use a rubber piercing mat like this one amzn.to/2GUTFRj (affiliate link). You can also use a piece of Styrofoam or one of the thick celluloid sheets that some companies use as packing material. A doubled-up piece of Fun Foam would also work. Please don't use your finger anymore, msliz . You could hurt yourself badly.

I use that SU pad, but a mouse pad or piece of fun foam would work too.
