Yes, no, maybe?
I do find it interesting that a draft dodger wants one. Of course my draft dodging bad feet, army joining feet mysteriously healed when Vietnam was over cousin is loving this.

I marked this Politics.
A parade - just what we need to emulate North Korea. In the US we do military parades to celebrate victories. We have a 15 year war with no end in sight; that is not a victory.
And could we create a bigger target for ISIS? A well-publicized military/political event in our National Capital on a specific day, planned months in advance.
And who is going to attend? He couldn't get people to come to his inauguration. He couldn't get as large an audience for his first State of the Union than either of his 3 predecessors.
He bills this as a way to praise the military when it is clear that he is the one who needs to spend millions of our money to prop up his ego.

NO. If I believed for one second this was about honoring our troops, I *might* feel differently. But as it stands, I think that the money it would cost to stage a military parade could be put to MUCH better use (bonus pay for soldiers, safety measures to reduce training fatalities, updated gear, etc.)
I've always felt like military parades were an obnoxious display to compensate for impotence and insecurity* (perhaps because I'm only familiar with them in context of authoritarian regimes). In general, the louder one screams about how "badass" they are, the less I believe it (I'm talking to you, insecure facebook friends who post meme after meme about how tough they are).
*Just to be clear, I'm not talking about Veteran's Day parades, 4th of July, or any other parade that honors those who serve without a full-scale display of vehicles covered in rocket launchers and M-16s.

Why can't someone in government tell him "no"?
If no one can stop this, how is he not a dictator already? (Said only a little tongue in cheek)

I think the saying I’m seeing all over Twitter right now is perfectly apropos: Confidence is silent. Insecurities are loud.

If it were to truly honor the military, I'd think it was an idea worth considering. But he wants the military to honor him. No to that.

Yeah, I don't think he's dreaming of everyone admiring the troops. He's imagining the part where they pass by his special viewing area and salute him as they go past. It's not for them, it's for him.
It's crazy just how many insecurities one man can have.

It would be more respectful to the troops if they are allowed to opt out. Some may not enjoy being used to bolster the president’s ego.

You know what would be better than a military parade a president that respect Goldstar families or veterans like Mr. McCain . If he respect the military so much and love them he should have joined them in Vietnam , That parade he wants is not about the military it’s all about him and it will cost us lots and lots of money and it will coast the man and woman in uniform a lot of work for nothing.

I’m sure he’ll want them to take marching lessons so they look like the North Korean military.

(Said only a little tongue in cheek) I thought I read last night that the Mayor of DC has already said a parade of this nature will not be permitted. Unfortunately I’m pretty sure I caught it scrolling through on Twitter so I have no idea where exactly it’s from.

You know, if he really wanted to honor the military, there's an easy way for him to do it. He can walk out of the WH, across the Ellipse and over to the WW2 Memorial when veterans from an Honor Flight arrive. Applaud them, shake their hand, hug them, thank them. That's what even casual passersby do when they realize who has just pulled up on busses. They're getting out with canes, walkers, wheelchairs and they want to touch the state they're from, they want photos that represents the area in which they serve and have closure. After that they're taken to Arlington for the changing of the guard. Senators, Congresspersons and other government folks are always there to thank them for their service. And it would cost him nothing to honor them.

NO! The cost would be outrageous and there are WAY better things to be spending tax dollars on than stroking someone's ego.

I saw that on Twitter I just love it
A guy with five military draft deferments wanting a military parade to honor himself, is a bit like Cruella De Vil wanting an award from the humane society for her treatment of Dalmatians.

The veterans at the Vietnam memorial always seemed and looked so haunted to me.

This is about Trump and his ego. That's it. If he cared about our military he wouldn't A. dodged the draft or B. have mocked John McCain or C. antagonized "Little Rocket Man" on Twitter and put our military at risk or D. put them at risk currently by making them a massive target for an attack. He's a joke of a president who says absurd things, posts ridiculous tweets, and now wants a huge parade and it's all a distraction. He's distracting from the Russia investigation, the stock market worries, the DACA fight, his failed attempts at passing even half of what he promised in his first year, and so many other things. He's probably also overcompensating for something so so small about himself...

Why can't someone in government tell him "no"? If no one can stop this, how is he not a dictator already? (Said only a little tongue in cheek) My dad always says that he judges dictators based on their military parades and the severity of the march- how synced the soldiers, are, how high the legs kick, and how fast the arms swing.

Planning begins for Trump’s military parade BY REBECCA KHEEL AND ELLEN MITCHELL - 02/07/18 08:19 PM EST
President Trump’s call for a large-scale military parade in Washington, D.C., drew considerable pushback Wednesday even as the military made clear that they are moving forward with the idea. “I think we’re all aware in this country of the president’s affection and respect for the military,” Mattis told reporters at the White House. “We’ve been putting together some options. We’ll send them up to the White House for decision.” “The military is not President Trump’s personal toy set,” Smith said in a statement. “He cannot be allowed to continue focusing on parades and ego-inflating toys instead of real, basic military needs that can jeopardize lives if they are not met.” thehill.com/policy/defense/372856-planning-begins-for-trumps-military-paradeThe mayor and Council of Washington have said no.

Call the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and they can connect you to your reps. They may not be able to stop POTUS but they will find a back channel way if enough people are pissed off.
Talking about it here is great. CALLING CONGRESS is a way to ensure you're heard.
Call the White House too.
