Last evening I realised I had no Valentine to leave for my sweetie. I hastily looked through the Martha Stewart craft site and came across this Heartstrings card. Bearing in mind I had no time at all, I began cutting with scissors - failed. Tried a knife and cutting mat - failed. Finally uploaded the screengrab to the Silhouette software and traced it. I've attached the file so you can see what I mean when I ask for help about tracing the line as a line and not as a solid shape? Having got this far, how do I edit it to get rid of those double lines? Clearly, last evening I had no time to go looking for editing advice in the manual - and anyway, it cut perfectly well as it is - but this morning, I thought it presented a learning opportunity for me, because it's something that's happened before. I'd love to find out how to do it, please! In return for your expertise, please feel free to use the file to make your Valentine a card.... Thank you x Attachments:heartstrings.studio3 (374.75 KB)

I had some time this morning to take a closer look and investigate - I found the answer on a Silhouette School tutorial. I needed to ungroup and delete one set of lines. Here's the updated file...still a bit rough, but works perfectly well and is as accurate as I'd get with a pair of scissors anyway ;-) (Thanks scrapnnana I wonder if that's what you would have done?)

Hi there, I did a quick fix by cutting the double lines & deleting part- I'm sure there is a better way. Happy Valentine's Day! Can't figure out how to post it here- I'll pm you.

Thanks, elegantsufficiency for the cut file! I sometimes forget about ungroup, too. Glad you figured it out. christinebk, I only know how to link an internet source without picture, or to attach a file (photo) from my computer. Not sure if this will help? You can add a link with the internet button (world and paper icon) at top left of the message pane. If you click on edit at the top right of your post, the message pane will include an Add Attachments at top right. You can add an attachment directly from your computer there.

I ended up completely recreating the file and tracing it again. Your original trace was a bit rough for some reason. After tracing, I cut apart and deleted duplicate lines. I also created a matching scalloped heart, since that was needed for the valentine based on the instructions. I included a matching regular heart to stamp a sentiment on. Edited to add: Looks like you no longer need it, but here is my version: scalloped heart and plain heart included with the actual heartstring cutting file. I saved it as a Legacy version file, for anyone who hasn't updated their software recently. I also saved it in SVG and PDF formats, if someone with a different cutter wants the file. Thanks, grammadee, for the info on how to add attachments. MS Heartstrings V2.studio (57.29 KB) MS Heartstrings.svg (52.7 KB) MS Heartstrings.pdf (59.73 KB) If anyone ends up using the SVG or PDF version, I forgot to delete some small circles that I used for creating the scalloped heart. Just ignore or delete them. They are not needed for the valentine.

Thank you, scrapnnana! The scalloped heart and the plain one are the perfect companions to the original! Have this saved in my Silhouette library for later use. Maybe on a scrapbook page...

Well, what clever things you all are! Thank you so much!
This has been such a useful exercise for me. I learned about double lines, about attaching a file to a message here (only on a full reply, not a quick reply it seems) and most important - but possibly something I knew already - how generous the peas are!
Thank you all for sharing...and going the extra mile to help me. Xx
