This month and next month are killing me..My daughter leaves for a trip of a lifetime, Germany,Switzerland, Prague, and several other places. She comes home for something like 36 hours and then she is off on an almost two week beach vaca with her father and his family. And then she leaves for college for the first time. I am so excited for her and look forward to hearing all about her adventures. But her and I are very close and the thought of not seeing her everyday is killing me. Crap I am crying this just typing this
If it was just this I think I would be OK but July 4Th is my daddy's birthday and this Aug it will have been 20 yrs since he has passed. In the past fathers day, July Fourth& and Aug 17 used to leave me a mess but over the years it has gotten better. But with Lauren leaving the nest(the first one to really leave, oldest lives right around the corner) Peas that have been there done this please tell me this lump in my throat and pain in my chest will go away.

I'd be sad too. But talk about an amazing experience for her! I wish I'd travelled when I was younger.

I am so sorry you are going through this! My oldest will go to college in a year and it makes me cry just thinking about it. I still can get tears just thinking about her first day of school. Thinking about you! And you must really miss your dad! It's just so overwhelming, isn't it. Maybe the fact that you and your daughter are so close helps. Not all kids are close with their parents, so how great that you and your daughter have that! You are a wonderful mom letting her do all this over the summer and she will really appreciate that you did this for her. I bet she will really miss you too (even though teens are too cool to admit it).

I'm sorry, and I totally get it! My dd leaves for college in mid-August, and she's hardly home now as it is. I've been tearing up a lot, too. Everything is going to change from here on out. I know that sounds dramatic, but it's true. It's a new phase in all of our lives, and I can't believe that it's actually here.
We'll need to start a thread in August when they start heading to school, so we can all cry and commiserate together.

Aw, hugs, Andrea! I know how you feel. Last Wednesday I put my 15-year-old DD on a plane bound for Germany all by herself. She was being met there by cousins, so I had nothing to worry about, but I cried all the way back to the car. I'm lucky, though, she comes home in 13 days and won't go off to college for 2 years. I understand about being close, I miss our daily talks already! Hang in there, Mama, hopefully, she'll call lots and lots.

I'm sure the first few days will be tough but think of all the wonderful experiences she is going to have. What a great opportunity for her.

I know it's hard, but this is what you prepared her to do, mom - to get along in this world without you. She'll come home sometimes, she'll always need her mom, but she's on her way to make you prouder. Hang in there, it does get better.

Thanks you guys. Glad to know I am not in this boat alone.
Last night we went and got momma daughter tattoos. It is a perfect quote "Together forever never apart, maybe in distance but never in heart." I have the first four words by my collar bone and she has the rest on her ribs. She was so funny while she was getting it she had a stuffed monkey and was squeezing her best friends hand. I will try and load a picture of our new ink. SHHHH hubby doesn't know we got yet another tattoo. He wont mind he just isnt wild about them.

I'm sorry--I know how hard it can be. My stepdaughter just got back from a year in China and I missed her like crazy. It sounds like your daughter has some wonderful adventures ahead of her. I bet when she returns, you'll have SO much to talk about!

Hugs to you! I am the same way, only mine is because my son just graduated Airforce Basic training and we went to see him for that. Now he will be in Tech School for 3 months and then off to who knows where, but it won't be close to home.
My daughter is in college and comes home once a week, but her boyfriend just graduated Airforce basic training this week and I know when she finishes school they will get married and she will leave with him.
It's so hard to think about! We are all very very close. So i just try to enjoy the time we have together and know that they are doing what they are meant to do and be happy they are secure in their choices.

Hugs! It's a great opportunity for your daughter, but I know it makes us mom's sad to know they are growing up and leaving the nest.
