time someone was nasty to you? I remember mine like it was yesterday. I started one of my first threads and had my *caps* on by mistake. Nurse Kitty posted something about the little yellow bus must have picked me up for school. I was shocked, hurt and so glad when the thread left the first page. Of course, 10 years later I would just let it roll off my back. What was your first hand slap?

No. There was one situation I got wrapped up in. I regret it and I let most everything roll off my back from then on.

Yeah, it was me comparing a puppy size to a can of Pepsi and then discussing fluid ounces vs other ounces. I was pronounced stupid for not understanding the difference.
Sad that we remember the negatives so clearly, huh?

Glad that you didn't let it keep you from sticking around. Aw, thanks. What a sweet thing to say. I'm just glad that Nurse Kitty hasn't been around for quite a while. <shudder>

I apparently used the word "snarky" and Ms. Smarty Pants scolded me for not doing using it correctly. Seriously.

For some reason, I think that my first handslap was from NK as well. I don't remember what it was about though.

You know, I really dislike the term "handslap." It got attached to every stinkin' comment that anyone made that deviated from the bad-mouth of the day. I truly believe that's how a lot of the ugliness managed to take over; if someone challenged someone else for their nastiness, they were accused of clutching or slapping and then they'd shut up for fear of being chastised. I hope that doesn't continue here. I don't care what anyone labels me, if someone behaves like a bitch, I'm going to say something. I hope others will too. Maybe then we can keep the nastiness level down to a low grumble instead of a bellowing roar. ETA: anyway, to answer your question, no, I don't remember the first one or even the last, but I've had my fair share.

Ha! I do remember the first time someone was not very nice to me, but I don't remember who it was anymore (I really didn't remember for long) and to be honest, I knew going into the thread (it was one I posted) that there was the potential for someone to criticize me. It wasn't a total hot button issue, but still a topic that a few people were able to say "why would you do that." I got over it rather quickly.

yes, I do. I don't remember who said it, but I asked a technical question, computer related, and even said that I am not tech savvy. Someone wrote the most condescending response like I was the biggest idiot in the world. Another time, someone who is still a very active poster who "tells it like it is" started a thread about a stupid thing I asked a question about, making fun of the dumb things people ask, and specifically mentioned what I had asked about. I actually left two peas for a while after that. I had never, and have never, said an unkind thing about anyone, and it made me feel so stupid. To this day, I can't read that person's posts without feeling icky. Stupid, I know.
I also remember one time I wrote about something that I was really stressed and worried about, and another person sent me a peamail to tell me they were talking about me on "THE blog." I'd never been there before, but of course, I had to go. I wished that I hadn't, because again, I felt like crap. I couldn't believe that people who didn't even know me could waste so much time making fun of me, when I hadn't done anything to deserve such treatment.

I asked a pretty dumb (in retrospect) question that got several people really worked up and apparently touched on apparently long-simmering board issues and I just let it go. Don't remember who said what, but was glad when it finally died down.

I do. I was a member of 2peas but when my DH died I hadn't yet found my way over to the NSBR side. I found my way shortly thereafter and lurked for awhile. Then someone posted something that bugged her about their DH and I replied that she was lucky she had a DH and whatever it was that was bugging her was small potatoes. I got slapped good for that. I don't remember who it was or exactly how she said it but it made me cry. I lurked for a long time afterwards before I got brave enough to reply to a post and it took me forever to actually start a post.

Oh, yes. I well remember and it was probably 2007 or 2008! I posted something and stated that it was third hand information that I couldn't prove. It was relevant to a topic that someone else had posted. I still remember the two people who were nastiest to me. One has found her way here, and I don't believe the other has. It really hurt my feelings at the time. I felt like they were giving me the third degree. The only other time I remember being hurt was regarding a thread that had to do with my profession. One pea got all uppity about her husband having to either reprimand or fire a pharmacist for stealing. Based on her husband's job, that would have never happened in real life. She was full of crap and now I would just call her on it. The thread had gotten ugly by the time that was posted, though, so I was thinking "abort mission".

Sure do. It was on a political thread back in 2004. I got blasted by a few people, as was typical on the political threads on two peas. And then one person told me that I was a Canadian on an American message board, so I had no right to post opinions.

It seems almost anything in depth that I ever posted seemed to have a rude or snarky comment generated. This is one of the reasons why I stopped answering a thread - never mind starting one. Funny I am not like that IRL, if someone says something that ruffles my feathers, I have no problem responding to them, but for some reason the bucket intimidated me

I got handslapped once when I was brave enough to start my own thread for being vague in my title and posting something "leading" but not with enough information for people to decide if they wanted to look into the thread or not.
I've sure I've gotten handslapped for more than that but this was the first incident that I really remember because I was so shocked at how ridiculous it was.

Not sure if this would be considered a handslap, but I commented on the neighbor kids having an Easter Egg hunt in our yard and was pretty much told to just let them be. I know I said many times that we let them have their fun, I just thought it was weird that they were looking in our yard, right under our living room window for their Easter Eggs.

Yes I did once on a thread about maternity leave. That's when I realized that I may want to keep certain opinions to myself.

Yup! And I remember who stood up for me, as well. LUCY STOOD UP FOR ME!!! (Where's that smiley with hearts when you need it?!) In a discussion about the term "white trash," I said I don't let my kids use the term because it was - by implication - insulting to African Americans. Somebody with abysmal reading skills quoted me COMPLETELY put of context and pronounced me a "disgusting racist." She was joined by two other Peas, who only read the accuser's post. (All three were women of color, so they took particular umbrage.) Lucy stepped in and repeatedly defended me, and quoted me accurately. Out of "respect for Lucy"(seriously, one of them said that), they deferred to her version of things, but added comments about how outlandish my interpretation of "white trash" was. Later that night, I found an essay by a prominent African American sociologist who had the same interpretation of "white trash" as me! I thought about PMing it to the Peas in question, but stopped myself. Thanks, Lucy. I was such a thin-skinned noob.

I do. I don't remember who, but several slapped my hands regarding an earlier post by the person who was eventually "turkeygate." The summer before that she had posted about being pulled over while driving, and loosing it with the officer. It went on and on..... Then shortly after, school started and right away she started in on her awful kids (she taught high school).
I don't remember the details, but I remember being hand-slapped when I expressed my thoughts that maybe her anger issues were a little, ummm...over the top.

I remember mine. Not only did I get reamed but a special call out thread with my name in caps.
You know what it was about? I mentioned I washed bath towels more than once a week. I was told "it was people like me who didn't 't care about our water supply."
I was shocked. That was over 10 years ago, today, it would roll off my back. I guess I grew some thick skin.
