OMG, I used to see that storage solution all the time when I first started scrapbooking! I've got tons of ideas on my Pinterest page clicky Right now I am converting my dies, embossing folders and stamp storage to using the fridge binz method.

I used this paper storage technique for a while but it didn’t work for me. If you do go with this be sure to put down something smooth to line each shelf. Otherwise your paper may catch and cause the corners to fold or tear. I learned the hard way. However I now use them to store my vertical paper holders.

Man, I wish I felt like I had something exciting to share.
I guess my only real DIY (as opposed to 'hey, I found this product I love that isn't meant for this, but it works great') project is that I put shelves on all of my desks. Ikea used to sell one that was great, but I don't believe they do anymore. It's not a huge deal, though, because I have the one that works with my Ikea desk and my other desk is custom...so the shelf is custom, too.
I use the 4/$14USD Capita Ikea legs and a closet shelf custom cut (bought and cut at a hardware store) as a way to get extra space on my desk. They have a taller leg option, but it is $10/leg and not really worth it on my work area. I considered it briefly to add another shelf elsewhere, but went another route for my stamp storage. It works great because I can stick little bins underneath to have handy when I'm working on a project, but I also have the space on top to put taller and/or more permanent storage (like my marker holder or my Michael's tool spinner).
In regards to one item I keep under the shelf, I have a cardboard divided tray with a mix of bits and pieces that I was able to get for free from Michael's. They housed the individual wood veneer pieces and when empty, it was just trash to them. I simply glued (because it doesn't always stick the best) a solid colored washi tape around the front edge to cover the logo and product descriptions. It's not really diy...more along the lines of repurposing something, but I feel like it's worth mentioning because stores are transitioning to the next season right now and there may be some cardboard pieces that would work well in a craft room that cost nothing and can be saved from the trash. Just ask and they'll usually let you take it.

okay, someone help me out here. i feel like i saw this.Let me describe.(a little background first) I like everything to be as visible as possible, so i have the hobby lobby clip it up knock off (since i stupidly sold mine 3 years ago when i thought i was quitting crafting). I have two of them, actually. I was thinking i could use a wall to put up a curtain rod, or maybe a tension wire, and hang those little clippy hooks onto the rod/wire and then i could hang my adhesive letters. Right now they're all in a bin which obviously doesn't work for me. I feel like i saw this somewhere, but when i google I can only find people who use it for displaying photos or scrapbook pages. EtA: I found it!! Well, something close-i wouldn't use a peg board. I need to find a cheap rod that 'extends' far enough from the wall so that my items can at least be partially sideways. it's hard to tell from the image, but this MIGHT just be a tension wire.... s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/88/9e/46/889e467366ab181ba0f1e5f7eb38b28f.jpg

I made magazine folder type storage boxes, out of old Studio Calico shipping boxes. I covered them with designer duct tape, to make them more durable (and cuter, lol). I store my 12x12 paper in them.

You can make it as lax or taught as you want. I have one that I meant to hold for projects and never did...but don't dare ask me where it is. www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60075295/

Back in the day, I had a six-ish foot wide - five-ish foot tall system of those zip-tied grid cubes. I found the paper got really dusty.
For at least a decade+, I have used the large plastic 12 x 12 envelopes/paper holders?(not sure what they are really called). They stand upright, in the larger metal mail sorter stands. I have four stands, on top of a 1 x 4 expedit type cabinet(lays sideways, not tall ways). Each stand holds about 20-25 of the large plastic envelopes depending how full they are. I organize by theme (to each, their own...may not be for everyone, but that's my scrapbook style and way) for embellishments, and paper by color, as well as patterned.
I also have a free standing "S" shaped towel rack/stand that swivels. I have metal curtain round (slides on the rod and the clips dangles)clippy thingys on there, and clip baggies with chipboard letter words on there, as well as, stencils hang on there too.
I also used a tiered magazine, and have 1 inch binders of letters stickers on it, organized by color.

I use these shelved organizers on my desk. My original Cameo fits perfectly underneath the first shelf, then I have inks on the second shelf and my paper trimmer on the third. It's not too bulky but allows me to maximize my desk space. They're meant to organize shoes but they work for me!

I do have photos, but I have no idea how to post them here. Technology challenged. Someone did me the kindness of teaching me how to post photos, so I will pay it forward. If you hit REPLY (on the right side at the bottom of the page, blue bar, rather than QUICK REPLY) it'll open a reply window that has a lot more options than the quick reply window. On the right hand side above where you type there's a grey button that says "add attachment" which will open up a little pop up where you can hit the plus sign and navigate to photos you have saved on your computer. Hope that helps

I also have other repurposed storage in my space. I use oversized plastic magazine holders laying sideways for ease of taking out a sheet or two at a time for my 8.5x11 CS. I have my brads and small embellies in clear bead sorter containers. I use a lot of snap-ware for my flowers, bakers twine, crystals/sequins, etc.

Like you, I need my stuff to be visible too. If I don't see it, 9 out of 10 times I forgot I've got it! It's a big part of the reason I was reluctant to use the Jennifer McGuire fridge binz storage system for stamps. The first photo is 7 years old but above the shelf is how I used to store my acrylic stamps - on an Ikea towel rod (which was discontinued a while ago) and curtain clips. I used DVD bags with a white piece of cardstock and stamps stored on both side of the cardstock. Jump to 2018 and I have outgrown this method for storing stamps because my collection has grown and I have nowhere else to hang them so I'm moving to the fridge binz storage system and pockets much like the ones from Avery Elle. BUT, I still love this system for things I reach for often. I'm just finishing getting things in place after redoing my room and I decided to put up one of the smaller rods above my desk. The rod is actually attached to the bottom of that Making Memories unit, but I have two more of those rods and I am seriously considering putting both of them up. I changed the method of storing my ribbon, but again if you look at the first photo, I'm thinking about putting my ribbon back on the wall on using one of those rods!

This looks a little worse for wear, but for years it sat on top of some rolly plastic shelves in my craftroom. When I renovated, it found its home in a drawer. It is basically a Costco heavy box which I dressed up with sb pp and decoupaged with Mod Podge. It holds all my go-to tools in one place, and when I head out to a crop I know I can just grab this and will have them at my fingertips all weekend. Sorry if you have to turn your head on its side to look at this. It was the right orientation on my phone LOL. Attachments:
