We had our other house painted before we put it on the market and the painter used Sherwin Williams Pro Mar 200. There was 4 gallons left over and we are using it to paint our house. The color isn't the one I wanted to use, but it's nice and we had so much paint that we already paid for.
I can't stand this paint! I was told it's a builder grade paint, and not a good paint. I painted my hallway foyer 5 coats and it still looks awful! I need to paint our family room and kitchen, so I need to use some other paint. I am not a good painter, so something easy would be great (if that makes sense!). I use satin paint.
What brands do you love or not like.

Hands down, Behr paint and primer...it's slightly more expensive but I have NEVER had to do a second coat and this is the 3rd or4th house I've used it in...most recently went from dark olive to light gray. The savings in time (no second coat) and product and ease of use (this stuff is like marshmallow fluff) more than make up for the initial higher cost.

We use Behr as well. It's easy for me to get and it works well.

We had our kitchen, living room and entry way painted by a professional and he also used Pro Mar. It hasn't held up very well in our high traffic areas. I used Behr when we painted everything else in the house and it was good. But that was 10 years ago and I did have to use 2 coats. I recently painted our laundry room and bathroom and used Behr for one and Sherwin Williams for the other. I still had to use two coats. But maybe I am just a bad painter. I think I bought the second most expensive variety, so maybe the more expensive one would have been better.

We've been happy with Benjamin Moore paint.

I almost exclusively use Benjamin Moore Regal Select paint. Is it pricey? Yes. But it covers beautifully and holds up so well.
PS. Did your painter tell you how much paint to buy? I would be pissed that I had over bought so much (unless you made that decision on your own). 4 gallons is a crap ton to be over on paint.

Behr Marquee
The best we have ever used.
Color? Ben Moore Revere Pewter mixed in Behr Marquee.

I like Sherwin Williams as well, but don't use that line. We mostly use the Emerald line and love it. No primer needed and holds up very well. The builders grade SW that they used on the interior has held up okay in the few places we have it, but not outside with sun exposure. Have also used and liked ICI paint. And from big box stores, my favorite is Behr.

I think there are different types of Behr paint and primer. Want to make sure I get the right one! I am always a 2 coat painter. I can never get good coverage with one coat. Maybe I don't put enough paint on the roller.

That's why I am looking for a paint that's easy for beginners (I have painted a lot, but feel like it's beginner work!). Do you still have the paint cans for the Behr and SW? If you do, which one did you use? I think each have a lot to choose from. I want to make sure I get a good one.

I would be pissed that I had over bought so much (unless you made that decision on your own). 4 gallons is a crap ton to be over on paint. Haha, I wasn't happy! Long story! Originally, he had me buy several gallons of the paint. He wanted individual gallons, not the big bucket. He was working alone, he said the gallons were easier to work with. He was painting entire house but not the trim. After a week, he needed 5 or 6 more gallons (house is very large). I went to SW, gave them his painter info and they looked it up. Told them we wanted exactly what we had before and gave her the sheet that said individual gallons. Well, she comes out with the 5 gallon bucket. I told her that he has to have the individual gallons (and that's what I had on the sheet). The didn't have the individual gallons in that. So they refunded me and sent me to another store. Then the painter told me that I should have taken the bucket, that they won't be able to sell it. So when he finished with those gallons, he said he needed more and asked if he could get the 5 gallon bucket that I didn't take. I said yes. Well, he just wanted to get in good with SW because he left me with 4 gallons!

Your need for 2 coats might also be due to using a lower quality roller and/or very deeply textured walls. I use 2 coats as well, because of the texture.

I use Behr Ultra Premium. I have had too many bad paint experiences to try something else. But Sherwin Williams has the best colors though. So I give Home Depot the SW color code and get the best of both worlds.

We first used Behr Marquee to paint a dark color on a few walls. The previous time we'd painted with a dark color we ended up doing 3 or 4 coats of a highly rated Valspar. We figured the Behr Marquee had a guarantee to color in one coat or your money back so we tried it. Best decision ever! One coat is all it took to paint those dark walls. That's the only brand of paint we've bought ever since, except for one time. When we moved back into our current house 2 years ago (we rented it out while we lived somewhere else for a few years) we needed to freshen up some white trim. DH figured we were just painting white over white and could use a less expensive paint. Wrong! It took several coats to look good and DH vowed to only buy Behr Marquee in the future.

I have bought rollers at Home Depot and they are $9.99 for a 3 pack. Sometimes I get Purdy, but I think the ones I have are a different brand. Which roller brand and nap do you recommend? The walls are smooth.

We like purdy with a thick nap, and really notice the difference when we don't use them, but you may not need that for smooth walls.

Is this paint thick? It's funny, but 12 yrs. ago when I first started painting my friend recommended Behr, she loved it! I bought some and I couldn't paint with it at all! It was a disaster! Then a couple years ago my friend asked me to help her paint her daughter's room and she had Behr. I was finally able to paint with Behr. I liked their price better than the SW Classic 99 that I used in the rest of my house.

Paint + Primer contains no primer whatsoever- it is just thicker paint. We sprung for the very expensive Sherwin Williams paint + primer. It was horrible. When we had use it, we bought primer and the least expensive Sherwin Williams paint. Same number of coats, much cheaper.

Sherwin Williams is our favorite, as well as our professional painter's. He doesn't use that type.

I only use Sherwin Williams Superpaint. I always do two coats though as our walls are pretty textured.

I was a Benjamin Moore user for years then I tried Behr and it was love at first roll. One coat, no spatter.
