I bought a St. Patrick's Day stamp set that has Happy St. Paddy's Day. I always thought it was Patty, because there is no D in Patrick. What do you think?

Paddy. Patrick is the Anglicized version of Padraig.

Paddy. Patrick is the Anglicized version of Padraig. Hmm, interesting. That makes sense now. Thanks.

Paddy. Patrick is the Anglicized version of Padraig. That explains it! I had always thought "St Paddy's Day" but had no idea why.

Yes, boys named Patrick get the nickname Paddy, not Patty. I'm surprised the stamp got it right!

It's tricky to know in the US because of the way Ts are pronounced but I learned recently that Patty is short for Patricia, and Paddy for Patrick.
Every year on Tumblr a bunch of Irish people try to educate Americans about all the ways that St Patrick's Day has been messed with, and how many elements of the US celebration are actually quite offensive (like the drink people call an "Irish car bomb" which is just awful if you know anything about Irish history).

Thanks everyone for your answers. After the explanation from JustTricia I'm good with it. (meaning I can explain if anyone questions my use of the sentiment!) So here is my prototype. I'll fix the "arch" on the rainbow shamrocks, fix the grass and pot transition, and put a shadow under the pot. Maybe change the color of the grass. (The current arch looks like I"m trying to send smoke signals! ) The inside sentiment is Happy St. Paddy's Day! {deleted photo}

I may have to treat myself to that stamp set...you enabler, you!

Paddy. Patrick is the Anglicized version of Padraig. I'm a purist. But thanks, now I get the shortened version!

such a cute card! It's so so hard to find good St. Patrick's Day stamps. I've been using the same PSX wood mount ones since the mid-90s and I'm a little bored. I bought the Neat and Tangled So Lucky set for this year.
