My two sisters will be comng to visit me in Germany later this year - one for three months, the other for one - and we will all be travelling around Europe together in this time. I have just had the genius idea of making each of them a journal/notebook for their time her. Something they can write in, keep tickets in, even maybe a few photos as we go - I'm thinking of getting a portable Instax printer to take along with us. Does anyone have any ideas for me? Neither of them are scrapbookers, so I am looking for something that won't require a lot of creativity from them, but I am willing/able to put in plenty of time to get them ready.

How about giving them a pencil pouch with a few supplies to get them started - tape runner, roll of washi tape, pen, small pair of scissors?

What a fabulous idea! I like the idea of the portable printer to take with them. Even a Selphy would be nice. I'd have a nice stash of labels you can write on (Studio Calico has great sets that you can print easily) that add a bit of color without too much bulk. A roller stamp for the date with a small ink pad would be helpful - and maybe one r two small travel themed stamp sets. Some nice journaling pens too! My friend recently made us "travelers notebook travel kits" using one of these bags from Amazon: Purse Insert She filled them with blank notebooks, a small stapler, small scissors, watercolor pencils, journaling pens, a ruler, a Prima planner glue stick (these are fabulous!), a metal ring to put a couple washi tape rolls on and a collection of labels, library pockets and little bits to add to our pages. It's small, contained and easy to take along.

I love these ideas. What great gifts these will be! If they aren't big into journaling or scrapbooking, maybe some images of easy but practical layouts from other folks would be helpful too, not so much to tell them what to do but to spark ideas for what their journals could look like. Like a little inspiration booklet with templates or just really pretty journal pages from Pinterest.

If they're not very crafty they might be happy without too many complicated bells and whistles - just a few labels, an easy to use adhesive (tape runners are so awesome if you've never used one - they were a revelation to me!), some nice pens, word/phrase stickers - they kind of stuff we all used in school (which was often the last time people did arts and crafts). Some extra stuff may seem like overkill to them - especially something like stamps for things that would be easier to write or use stickers for.
I love the idea of each having a notebook, a little supply kit, and some way to add photos like an Instax printer. I think that will be a fun keepsake, especially if you can set aside a little time to all work on your books together.

Thanks for the ideas so far! They have got me a bit more focused in my thinking. I was out shopping this morning, and had a look in one store at the notebook options they had, but want to go into the city where there is a large Office supplies store to check out more options. The visits are in October and November, so I ahve a bit of time to plan and work on these.

My sisters, niece and I went on a road trip a few years ago. I made these chipboard albums for everyone before we left. All they had to do was crop their pictures and add journaling.

Thanks for the picture. This is the sort of thing I am thinking, but ours will need to be a bit bigger as we are looking at longer trips. I don't have the machine for the spiral binding, but I can probably find a way to do that, or use binder rings.

I made a full Traveler's notebook for my trip to Europe coming up. I got a Webster's Pages one that holds 4 notebooks 1 for a daily planner, 1 as a notebook, 1 checklist, and 1 that will be my journal. I'm bringing along way too many scrap supplies to work on my journal nightly.
the Traveler's Notebook size is nice because it's not intimidating for just journaling and collecting things. They're also pretty easy to make. so you could easily customize them with patterned paper or stickers.

It is one of the ideas I am looking at - I have also seen a ring binder similar to a filofax planner, with all sorts of different inserts - pocket pages, plain pages, etc. I have until mid-Oct to have these ready, so plenty of time. I just want to gather ideas right now. If you can share any photos - especially the insides - of what you have done, I would really appreciate it.

This is the title page for my journal before I glued it into the book. My Insta has a few other TN photos but nothing great. I must have shared more on my private regular account. I've got 3 notebooks now and use it for all my planning. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bf91lkUBwmc

I love your idea for your trip! I recently bought one of these clearance punches at Michael's for $5.99. I am planning to make little spiral binding books on the cheap--using this punch, buying some wires, and closing the wires myself. Just an idea if you have a Michaels with these. It is pretty cheap if you don't end up using it for this or much at all. Becky Higgins Wire-O Punch link
