I decided to take the plung and I bought two to try out. I’m going to watch a Tim Holtz video and if Jennifer Maguire has a video I’ll watch that as well. If there are any other good ones let me know. I’m looking forward to playing with them this weekend.

There are loads of them on Youtube! Make sure you watch a variety as there are many techniques.

I’ve also decided to buy a few as I’ve been struggling to blend other types of ink. Jennifer McGuire has a few videos that look good.

I am looking forward to trying the ones that come in Aprils SSS kit, I want to get some distress inks and was trying to decide between the originals or the oxides. The oxides do look nice from the videos I've seen!

Not sure if this is a hijack or not (if it is, I apologize) but has anyone tried the distress crayons? I bought a few and haven't had the chance to use them yet.

If there are any other good ones let me know. I’m looking forward to playing with them this weekend. My favorite way to use them is smoosh a few colors on a craft mat, spritz with water, then smoosh your paper in the different colors, letting it dry or using a heat gun to dry between layers. TH has a good video on this. The "smooshing technique" works better with watercolor paper not regular Neenah. Then I use a big sentiment die like MFT Thanks or Hello and mount on cardstock. Just know that when they dry the color with oxidize and not be as vibrant. I have a water spritzer that I added perfect pearls to and it give it a nice pearlescent effect. They are really good at regular stamping too. And if you work quickly you can put embossing powder on them and emboss.

If you like vibrant, rubbing distress glaze over it after doing the oxides will make it be more vibrant. I've seen where someone used some burt's bees product too but I don't know what it was.

Well I took the plunge and ordered a few colours. Really busy at work and just about to start a 2 week court hearing which means no spare time, but I look forward to lots of crafty time over Easter.

GiantsFan thanks for some more ideas! I am a late adopter to all things inks/blending too. I've had fun learning. I found the type of paper really makes the most difference for me. So far the Strathmore Bristol Smooth has given the best results. I bought the larger pad and just cut it down. While I really like the oxides, I've actually preferred the more vibrant results of the regular TH distress inks. But that's just me. I also really like the texture paste and the results with stencils. Ink blending has fueled a whole new love for stencils and I am slowly collecting. I really love the crafter's workshop. have fun playing!

I have found them easier to blend than the regular DI.

I love Distress Oxide inks as much as I love the regular distress inks but if you're looking for a way to make them more vibrant, check out this video. Glazed Distress OxideI saw a video where Tim Holtz demonstrated the same technique... I think it was from the last Creativation. I was home sick for a couple of days while it was on and spent a lot of time watching videos. I immediately ran to Michael's and picked up the Distress Glaze. It really makes the colours pop and takes away the chaulky look.

I got some of those when they were on sale at Hobby Lobby but haven’t tried them yet. Scrapbook.com added some Tim Holtz classes and one of them is on the distress crayons. He shows how to blend them and the method for water coloring. I’ll be trying mine out soon. Looks like I have a lot of stuff to play with in the next couple of weeks.

I bought recently too, but have not used them yet. But Tim has a good video showing the difference between the crayons and gelatos. That is what convinced me to keep them. If I can find it, I will link it. link

What are your favorite colors of the distress oxide? I ordered my first one, Peacock Feathers, to try out but I want to order more.

I bought Cracked Pistachio for my St. Patrick's Day cards. It's the color of a Shamrock Shake. :) It has some yellow undertones and the water splashes turn pale sky blue. It's pretty.

I pre-ordered 6 from the latest release back in January from SSS and believe it or not, I still haven't received them! The problem was that I also ordered the rose gold metallic fixative alcohol ink and it's been on backorder forever! They finally shipped last week so hopefully I'll have them soon!

My absolute favorite so far is Wilted Violet. Squeezed Lemonade is on its was and it MIGHT end up being a contender; it looks amazing in Tim Holtz's intro to new colors video from a few months ago.

I’m waiting for wilted violet to come back into stock. I ordered few blues, a green, a yellow and red so I can do some galaxy backgrounds.

I don’t have any of the newest ones yet. Wilted Violet is also my favorite so far.
