What did you think?
I alternated between thinking it was a little too sentimental and being totally sucked in.

I watched it last night. I want to like it, but I don't think I do. I just can't get past the teacher not getting approval for the play first. He wasn't some starry eyed newbie, he had to know that would never fly. Too much plot turning on such an unrealistic scenario to me.

My DH and I enjoyed it, I'm sure it will get cancelled just because we do. I am looking forward to next weeks episode. I will say it was a lot of content for just one episode.

I liked it. I agree Spring Awakening is a pretty risky choice without approval. Other than that I loved that it had Hamilton in it and wasn't so "performance" oriented as Glee (which I loved)

I can't decide if I liked the first episode or not. Seems like they had a check list of all the things one needs in a drama and they made sure to check every box.

I thought it was Friday Night Lights meets Glee. Still not sure about it. Might watch another episode.

I am still mad at Josh Radnor for the way HIMYM ended. So I cannot watch him in anything else just yet, doesn’t sound like I am missing too much though.
PS, Yes, I understand he probably had nothing to do with writing the show, but I am still angry.

Friday Night Lights is one of my all time favorite shows, so had to watch since Jason Katims is the show runner. And I definitely caught some FNL vibes. But Lou (Josh Radnor's character) is no Coach. I really didn't like his character at all - his take over of the program, picking Spring Awakening without a thought to how the school/parents would react, etc. And his character seems almost flat. I also didn't buy the QB threatening to walk away from football to be in the show.
But I liked the kids and will keep watching hoping they find their rhythm. Or Lou is crushed by a falling piano and Kyle Chandler shows up to be the first dual football coach and drama teacher for the school.

It was so bad, I couldn't believe it.
Ted is now married with children.
And being a teacher, I hate shows about teachers that are so outside the realm of reality. I imagine it is how medical personnel, fire fighters and law enforcement feel. My daughter and I could have written the script.

The previews I saw looked an awful lot like Glee, right down to the way the teacher talked like Mr. Schuster and the personalities of the kids (the jock, the diva, the gay kid...) I haven't watched the show in its entirety. Did anyone who watched Glee (and I did) see deep similarities?
ETA Okay, I went and found it on Hulu and just watched it. Massive similarities (opening shot, teacher driving to school, uninspired in the classroom, wants something more, approaches the principal, doesn't have enough student performers, poaches from the football team, coach gets upset...)
Big similarities to Glee. However, I liked it. The tone is different. I'll be watching it.

I thought it was Friday Night Lights meets Glee. Still not sure about it. Might watch another episode. I was calling it Serious Glee, but now I will totally be calling it Friday Night Glee, no matter what night it's actually on. Anywho, I liked it enough to continue watching it.

I had high hopes for it. I watched 1/2 and let it record the rest. Then I deleted "the rest". I knew I wasn't going to pick it up again.

I intended to watch it but got busy and haven't had a chance to look for it. The show has been hyped up a lot in the news around here because it is based (loosely) on a local high school.

I watched it, and while you could poke a million holes through the plot, it was okay, and I'll watch a second episode. Don't know that I am fully hooked, but interested enough.
During the Olympics, I saw a million commercials for this show. I sent my sister, who along with me is a big fan of How I Met Your Mother, an email about the "new tv show with Ted as an inspirational teacher". Then I came up with some better names for the show. Rise is so generic and unmemorable.
they should have named this show: Stand and Ted-liver To Ted with Love Goodbye, Mr Ted and my favorite Ted Poet's Society.

The jury is still out here... I liked it, it will make for a good "filler" while This is Us is off but not too sure it will really make it past this season. I agree that there was a lot in it but will be interesting to see how it goes.
