DS 1 has worn glasses off and an (15) first for distance, then close up, then went without. Has been complaining lately about not seeing the board good, etc and had eye Dr today...and was told didn't need them! ? Find it weird. ...

I've actually heard of this, but in older people going from short-sightedness to the 'mature' tendency toward long-sightedness.

DS had 20/20 vision but problems with going from desk work to the board. He went through vision therapy which corrected the problem.

Yes, I was going to suggest you ask about vision therapy as well.
If his problem is transitioning from one type of vision to the other, as opposed to seeing, then he needs therapy not glasses.
Good luck and hope you get answers soon!
