I just started scrapbooking again last week after years and years away. I don't know what happened exactly but I honestly think it was my way of internalizing and coping with stress and worry.
My mom and dad were both hospitalized last week, one with a seizure, and one with a heart attack. I didn't really talk to anyone (except my husband about it) and it was so odd. I completely internalized everything and just kind of naturally turned back to scrapbooking as a way of coping. It actually helped so much and I feel so much better. So weird...has anyone else ever had an experience like this?
My family is also moving to Alaska this summer and my husband will be in a new job and not around much. I'm also having some fear and anxiety about that. It seems that going back to something that brought me so much joy and comfort in the past has really healed me in the present. I had no idea how much I miss it.
Anyway...I have a lot of "catching up" to do. My youngest is 2 1/2 and I have barely any pages about her! I'm working back and finishing old pages and starting lots of new ones and man...it just makes my heart so happy.
I am having a hard time finding somewhere to purchase supplies though. I've found Scrapbook.com and ACOT...is there somewhere I'm missing? I also subbed to KP's TN kit. What else have I missed and what should I look in to? I feel like I did when I was brand new to the hobby 12 years ago. HA!
Whew! It feels so good to be back!
I hope y'all are having a great day. xoxo

When LisaDV mentioned ACOT for the first time, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven! That's where I get my supplies until I use up my kit clubs...then I'll go back to one of those.
Glad you're back enjoying our hobby!

Hi Stephanie and welcome!! I've followed your family over the years (sheez that sound creeper-ish!) and even read some of book recommendations. I really like the paper issues vibe over there. Fun challenges and NO drama! She keeps a fresh store, too!

Welcome back to scrapbooking, stephhowell! I am sure you will find your sea legs soon. Lots of great enablers on here to help you find all the supplies you need, and more! I find that when crises occur, I either use scrapbooking as a way to cope--focus on just this one page, these happy memories, gluing down THIS piece of paper--or I fall away from it completely until I can internalize everything else. And I hope your parents are doing better now. (((((HUGS)))))

It's a struggle and very stressful because my dad is being VERY belligerent and making my mom's recovery super difficult. It breaks my heart because I know he's acting out of fear and worry but it's not okay and I'm not there to help. I hate it.

Welcome back. There are so many new things to try in scrapbooking, especially if you lean toward the mixed media stuff.
I am glad your parents are okay, more or less.

Welcome back!
I also use it as a stress reliever. I go to my "happy place" every night after dinner for an hour or two.
Check out the gallery for inspiration. There are some really talented scrappers here.

Welcome back to scrapping Stephanie! I have been a fan for many years, love your work and I also love your book recommendations. Sending prayers for your parents. I mostly shop at ACOT. I love acrylic and wood veneer from Color Cast Designs. For Traveler's Notebooks I buy most of my supplies from Etsy stores.

Hey Stephanie, welcome back to scrapping! I remember you, I used to read your blog all the time, you lived in Italy right? I can't help with where to shop cause I'm in the UK but glad to see you back and I hope your Mum & Dad are both well again soon.

Hi and welcome stephhowell. I remember you from 2peas too. I was more of a lurker there though. For shopping, I like ACOT, Paper Issues, Bayview Scrappers. Paper issues has a really fun fb group. We have a 2peasrefugee flickr group where we share our creative endeavors. Feel free to sign up and share there as well. Glad to see you back to scrapbooking. I'm sorry that it's under such stressful circumstances. "Hugs".

Welcome back!! I, too, am returning after about a 10-year absence...I just got TOO BUSY with my son and his activities...I made the conscious decision to enjoy making memories with him because I could always scrapbook them later. Other than his college years, I took lots of photos. I'm adjusting to empty nesting and really enjoying scrapbooking again. What drove me back was Ali Edwards' December Daily. Holy Cow. Remember Ali from 2Peas? She was fabulous then and is even more fabulous now. Check out www.aliedwards.com She has different kit clubs that are REALLY versatile, and does different projects throughout the year, in addition to December Daily. We just did "A Day in the Life"; I hope to start on putting it all together this weekend since my photos are scheduled to be delivered on Saturday. She is now gearing up for "A Week in the Life", which would be great for you to document a week in the life of your young family. That is a separate shop purchase and the kit and most supplies are still available. She is coming out with a travel kit later in the year, and then, there is December Daily. She always has something good going on. I hope things with your parents and the move look up soon. Hugs to you. <3

I second Paper Issues and SG. ACOT is going to cost you a bundle when you move to Alaska. I live on the West coast and shipping is crazy expensive from them, so I just don’t order from them. I like that SG has a bank it program, you can order a small order or a big order and they will ship for free when your orders reach 75.00. You also earn rewards when you shop which is nice. They don’t carry all the lines I like though, so I use Paper Wishes as well.
Fairbanks is going to be a big change for you and your girls, but I think you will love it! It is very different then the lower 48, but a lot of fun. Enjoy some sourdough pancakes for me when you get there. And take the girls to the ice museum, the ice slide is really fun.

I get her subscriptions (all of them, lol) - they were the first thing I signed up for when I really got back into scrapbooking, and they really help me tell stories that I might not otherwise. I didn't scrapbook for several years when my family went into crisis mode - my son became very, very ill with no diagnosis for about 2 years. I didn't do anything crafty, I just focused on him and getting him figured out and well again. Once he started getting better (he's pretty much back to normal now with just a bit of pain now and then), I started scrapbooking again. Scrapbooking was a great way to cope with what we'd been through. It was extremely therapeutic. Not only could I just distract myself with being creative and focusing on doing something I've always loved, but I also had a new need to really tell the stories of our lives and to scrapbook the things I want to remember - it kind of gave new meaning to my scrapping, because I learned how quickly things can go south and how important it is to document things. I don't even get serious or particularly deep in my journalling/scrapbooking, I just try to pay attention to all the little things that will change over the years - our favourite meal right now, what we're binge-watching, etc. So, having gone away and then come back brought new life and new meaning to my scrapbooking, and I love it more than ever. I spend most of my days thinking about it as well as cardmaking, lol, and can't wait to get scrappy when I get home. I hope it does the same for you. Welcome back! SaveSave

You were my absolute favorite scrapbooker back in the day. I loved how you told your stories. So glad you are back at it again!
I find crafting of any kind to be very therapeutic. I hope you are able to carve out some time for yourself. It's so important for us to have an outlet.
