I have 2 different types: the regular, non-textured terrycloth ones (NOT my favorite).
And my favorites, with a nubby square design that feels EXCELLENT to scrub my face with.
But I alternate using the smooth and nubby, out of some odd sense of fairness to the washcloth collection. Also, I've had a Mary Kay lady and facial technician (aesthetician) tell me I shouldn't scrub too hard.
But the main reason I alternate, is I feel bad for the smooth washcloths.
Do you have stuff that you 'hold back' from using, for a ridiculous reason?

The smooth ones silently mock you and revel in your less than perfectly clean face. Better get rid of them asap!

I feel this way about my different colored cups. I much prefer the pink or the blue, but I try to give the gray one equal time because hey, it's not ITS fault that it is such a plain color.

You are so weird. ...was my thoughts exactly. In the nicest of ways. I used to work with a girl (still a friend) that practically spoke all her thoughts. You remind me of her, "Shar Lag".

I rotate my towels, meaning after I wash a load I put them at the bottom of the pile and not the top. I do it so the same ones don't get used over and over again and therefore fade. I do not do it because I don't want the others to feel left out.

During standardized testing, I used to use my No. 2 pencils equally so that one didn't feel left out. Of course, I was in second grade.

lol.. I have this same thing, but with dish towels. I have a couple microfiber ones, the kind that stick to every roughness on your skin when you touch them, blech. I can hardly stand to touch them. finally I have up and relegated them to 'dog mess' towels and only use the nice ones. life's too short to use crappy towels.

Oh, I definitely have favorite dish towels. The ones I don't like are seldom used. I don't feel bad for them, though.

If you don't like to use them, why use them? Get rid of them or use them for rags.

You are sooo funny. I have just as many quirks as you do, but this isn't one of them. In my new purging and life is short attitude, I say get rid of the ones you don't like. Life is too short to use smooth washcloths.

I did the exact same thing with dish cloths. We had several that were 'ok' and several that are fabulous. DH asked me just a couple of weeks ago why we didn't use the fabulous ones all the time, and I didn't really have a good answer. So he threw them out! Perfectly good dish cloths hit the garbage bin, and I felt bad for them.

Do you have stuff that you 'hold back' from using, for a ridiculous reason? YES! I have 2 bottles of hand lotion that came from HI. One I bought when visiting Kauai and one I had a friend buy for me when she went to HI for her wedding. I was afraid I would run out before I got to go back, if ever. So, as good as it smells and as much as I love it and it takes me back to one of my FAVORITE places in the world, I won't use it because I'm afraid I will never have the chance to buy more. I tried ordering it online and it was $40! $10 for the bottle and $30 for shipping!!! I'd rather spend that $30 on my travel to get there.

And I have run out of clean ones at least once or twice. Really, I promise.

My problem with face cloths and dish cloths too I guess is not texture but size. I do not like really big ones. And I will not use them. The face cloths sit there waiting for DH to use them. The dish cloths get put in the garage for DH to use for whatever it is he uses such things for.
Oh, and all my face cloths must be white. I cannot use them if they are coloured.

I cannot think of anything that I do that corresponds to this, but I'm sure there must be something.
Mostly I just wanted to say that my dear husband agrees with you about the waffle-weave washcloths, but he actively discriminates against the fluffy, smooth, regular, plushy terrycloth washcloths. If he makes all of the waffle-weave washcloths dirty and needs a fresh washcloth, he will complain about having to use a regular washcloth. I tell him to go win a million dollars, and we'll replace the regular washcloths with the waffle-weaves. He grouses. It's cute.

I always put all the Christmas ornaments on the tree, even the ones I don't care for. After all they only are out once a year and would feel bad for the ones left in the boxes. Crazy, I know and makes no sense. But I do it anyway. The really bad part is that I am usually gifted one or two new ornaments a year and the tree is getting pretty crowded. I may need to gift some ornaments to my DD's. They are young and don't have much for their trees.

Maybe you are forcing those soft washcloths into a life of service that they aren't suited to. Perhaps both you and those poor washcloths would be better if they were to receive a new job classification - perhaps as a dusting cloth or a cleaning cloth.

I do this with shoes. When I'm getting dressed in the morning and I go to grab a pair of shoes, every so often a pair will stick out and I swear they say "Pick Me, Pick MEEE" and then I feel like I should pack them all up and send them to a starving third world country so I'm not wasteful because I have shoes just sitting there collecting dust. And then I will change my outfit to coordinate with those shoes. But I only do this every so often. So I'm not as weird as Shar-Lag. At least, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I feel sorry for my nice craft supplies because somebody talented didn't buy them and make something awesome.
Instead, they got scooped up by someone with more enthusiasm than talent and will forever be part of a mediocre creation or they will molder in the craft cupboard, never to see the light of day again.

omg Sharlag, I can relate to your weirdness. I bought some washcloths at the Dollar Store a while back and I love them. They are soooo soft on my face by comparison to the ones I've been using. The old ones are now always on the bottom of the stack and don't get used as often. But I consider them as semi-retired and they still have a home.
