Back in the day when I could go to things in person--LSSs, crops, scrapfests, etc., I would learn about new tools and demos and occasionally buy something. I can be crazy disciplined about buying tools, so I could use a little enabling. (I'm real good about buying supplies though! ) But I am clearly not watching/consuming/viewing whatever medium manufacturers are getting info out regarding all their fun tools. So, enable me! If you have a favorite tool that I may not have (and I probably don't), tell me why you would recommend it and what's cool about it. I'm looking for a fun new goodie to buy/get into. FYI, I do NOT have and am not up to speed on so many things! Like, the Silhouette, Cameo, whatever Cricut has now, Scan and Cut, portable photo printer (or even a at-home one), Cinch, stamp position-er, typewriter, score board, die cutter (except a very old Cricut I never use and a Cuttlebug), Crop-a-Dile, Minc--so practically nothing. I almost exclusively scrap 12x12, don't use/buy many stamps, don't mind fussy cutting ephemera-type pieces, but I'm open to getting into new things (travel journaling on the go, learning cardmaking/stamping, etc.) My ears are open, and thanks in advance!

I think my favorite and most used tools are my zero-centering rulers (I have them is 6, 12, and 18 inches). I use them on almost every LO to center pictures, line up pictures with the edges of the page, center and line up titles, and placement of embellishments. I also use it for spacing of letters in a vertical title.

By far my most used tool is my Tiny Attacher Stapler by Tim Holtz, I love the tiny staples perfect using on rubber and it staples through anything.

I really like working on my glass mat. It’s easy to clean up glue and ink, and I don’t have to worry about getting stuff on my cutting pad or craft mat.
I have one that I bought an an Expo a while back, and I just got the smaller TH craft mat to use for various mixed media.
I’m also a sucker for WRMK tools. I always think I’ll use them way more than I actually do, though. Have fun deciding what to get!

OK, I LOVE all of these suggestions! So helpful, as it helps me narrow down to the favorites. Perhaps best yet, these are quite affordable so I could buy many/all of them!
I had always wondered if the Cutterbee scissors were worth the hype--I use scissors all the time and would not mind having/trying a new one.
Did not know of zero-centering rulers! I could actually see me using these a ton due to how fussy I get with positioning, multiple photos, etc.
Copics count as a tool! If they are really fun to work with I might splurge on some. this is definitely an "area" I am not working in now and could expand/learn a new thing in getting into them.
And I have always wondered about those little staplers. I could see using one of those, esp. is it a magnetic kind you can place anywhere?
Definitely would like to pick out a WRMK tool--the scorboard is an obvious choice I don't have but I love hearing what people love to use.
Thank you!!

Mine are my Tim Holtz stamping platform is one of my favorites. Now I’m actually using my stash of stamps. If you’re going to get more into cardmaking a stamping platform is great and easy to use.
I’ve never heard of a 0 centered ruler but now I think I might need one of those.

Ok, I can enable you. Love, love, love my WRMK Fuse. I know it has mixed reviews. I couldn't live without my new crafting best friend. I love to make my own pockets, embellishments, shaker cards and the list goes on. WRMK envelope board is a love too. I just got the Brother ScannCut. I am a massive lover of fussy cutting. That Brother ScannCut changed the game for me. I can do so much with it. I don't feel limited any more with my die cutting. I am picky about my tools. It takes four years when something comes out before I buy it. I research the thing to death before I get it. One of those is my Heidi Swapp MINC. It's been about four years I think, possibly longer since it came out and I just got it a couple of months ago. I was like "Why did I wait so long?" I can do so many pretty foiling techniques now. I did really want a foiling machine. I did research all of them in the industry. I went with Heidi's. I felt the price range was decent for what I wanted to do. No to Cutterbee's. I love my Cutterbee's. When I say no it is a kind of no. Look at the HoneyBee's instead. They are non-stick. You can cut fussy cut sticky things. Unusual tools I love are Bowdabra- I just wrote that. I really did write the Bowdabra. I know some are belly laughing. DH bought me the mini one. I love it so much. Hasn't the Bowdabra been out since the 1980's? That is a serious question. I do really love mine. I love to make bows, planner bows, and I just love bows. I love my Arc punch. Those have been around a million years too. I don't know why I waited so long to get into disc bound. That's been around since the 1980's too. I could have really used that system when I was doing RPG's by notebook. I thought I was so modern with my 3-ring hole punch back then, lol. I love being able to take my pages out of my notebooks so easily without damage and rearranging things to fit my needs. Throw out some of your need ideas and I can probably think of a few more to enable you from die cutting to journaling.

I had always wondered if the Cutterbee scissors were worth the hype--I use scissors all the time and would not mind having/trying a new one. I wish I'd gone with non stick scissors instead of these but I do love them for fussy cutting. I've always used smaller scissors (I actually used a pair of kids scissors I bought from my local office supply store for 25 cents during the going back to school sales and used them for years) so the size was something I was comfortable with already.

i have 2 pairs of cutterbee scissors, the regular black/yellow and then had to get a pink pair too. i also have the honeybees non-stick version and love them! i have had and been using one pair of cutterbees since 2006 (after my house fire which destroyed my first pair). they are still sharp as the devil and still work perfectly!
i'm not much of a tool ho, but besides my cutterbees, what i use on every LO is my ATG, my fine line bottle of scotch tacky glue, and a pair of regular eyebrow tweezers (mostly for letter stickers, but also for other little bits).
so nothing very exciting, sorry!
ETA: my t-square ruler!!

I use my TH ruler for cutting with my craft knife, aligning my projects, and it fits perfectly across my Scor-Pal as a depth gauge. I am also very glad I bought my Vagabond.

Seriously wondering why I never thought to get a larger size. Bowdabra- I just wrote that. I really did write the Bowdabra. I know some are belly laughing. DH bought me the mini one. I love it so much. Hasn't the Bowdabra been out since the 1980's? That is a serious question. I do really love mine. I love to make bows, planner bows, and I just love bows. Not laughing at all. Every time I want to make a tiny bow I go get a fork and wonder why I never invested in this so I could make different sizes.

It's not exactly exotic, but I really like my Fiskars 3-inch wide quilting ruler. It's clear, and it's 18 inches long. It's marked with 1/4 inch grids all over, so it's very useful for lining up borders, measuring between placing borders and the edge of the page, etc. And since it's 18 inches long, you can use it to line things up from one page of a 2-pg layout to the other.

My use all the time & Love: My craft mat ATG WRMK Corner Chomper WRMK big bite A pair o f Fiskars Titanium normal sized scissors Cutterbees My heat gun - drying paint, wet embossing My paper piercer
Things I love having and use frequently or should use frequently: A stamp platform - I use the Hampton Arts one and can't believe how much I like the thing. I also have the WRMK Plus with the exchangeable pieces that I haven't used yet. My sizzix for die cutting and embossing folders WRMK fuse machine - love making shaker embellies and should use it more. Various punches: I like have various sized circle punches. I also have a few favorite border punches I couldn't do without.
I had the silouette SD, and the cameo, and now the next generation cameo. I loved the first 2, but haven't been as happy with the newest model.

Do you have a manual die cutter? If you don't, I would look into getting one like a Big Shot or Big Kick. Then get some embossing folders, wafer dies and a magnetic platform.
The dies I use the most are:
Taylored Expressions numbers die set Spellbinders capital letters. Nested circles Nested rectangles
If you want to get into card making, the embossed backgrounds really move your cards up a notch. If you want to make Christmas cards, a snowflake embossing folder might be the place to start.
You say you are not a stamper, but if you want to use stamps on cards, I would suggest getting one of the platforms so you can position your stamp and then restamp several times until it is dark and perfect. I have the WRMK Precision Press and I like it. I am much happier with my stamping results now than before I got the press.
I know inks are not a tool, but if you decide to invest in the new Tim Holtz Oxide inks, you need to also invest in a water spritzer, and probably some ink blending tools. If you don't have a craft matt, that is okay: I use wax paper or transparencies to spread my ink on.

This is a great thread! My wide format printer (Cannon ix6820), Cutterpillar Pro paper trimer, Thickers alignment guide, fine line bottle, Brother Scan & Cut2, & Stabilo Pencil are my top favorites. The Cannon Powershot G7 Mark II, TH stamp platform, tiny attacher, Raskog cart, & glass palette would all be next. Then Lawn Fawn Stamp Shammy, Xyron Adhesive 2 Inch by 2 Inch Eraser (to remove glue), & iPhone are next. The next tool I want to buy is the iPad pro with the pencil but I haven't talked myself into yet. I'm not sure I'd use enough to justify the price. Happy shopping!

I also vote for a 36" self-healing mat... it's big enough to put a 2-pg layout on, so the grid on the mat, along with using a ruler, helps to line things up on the pages, and you don't have to worry about getting your table dirty / scratched. I even take it with me to crops. I think this might be the one I have: Fiskars 36x24 cutting mat. I used a coupon at the store, so it wasn't really that bad, price-wise. I ESPECIALLY make sure to take it to crops, since the crops at hotels usually have the tables covered with tablecloths and I can NOT craft on a tablecloth. Just be aware that if you leave it in your car too long (in the sun, or if it's HOT), on top of all your other supplies, it can sort of 'soften' up and get some weird folds / bends in... (ask me how I know, lol!) To counteract that, I lay it out on the sidewalk or asphalt for a while when I get to the hotel, so it will flatten back out.

I love the Xyron X for small pieces. I have used it consistently for probably over 10 years at least. Some people don't like the sticky residue that it can leave around the item, but I don't have a hard time pulling it off. I like the ATG gun for the bigger things.
I need those centering rulers. I cannot place anything straight.

Hmm. So TH has a zero centering ruler. Maybe I’ll add that to my order when I get the TH Tonic cutter. I think this thread is enabling more than just the OP,
