Kind of weird situation. My SO randomly started getting nosebleeds on Weds. he’s getting 3-5 a day and we can’t figure out why. He’s never had them in the past. He hasn’t historically had issue with seasonal allergies.
He does have high BP, but is on medication. He stopped at his doctor this morning for a BP check and they said it’s not his BP causing the nosebleeds, but didn’t really give him much else
So now we are literally just waiting for the next one to start. He’s tried ice. I’m about to go buy some saline solution to see if moisture helps.
Any other ideas? We don’t even want to leave the house for fear that another one is about to start.

Well, I was gonna say blood pressure. Why was his doctor so quick to discount that idea? Was it just because he had a normal reading at the appointment? BP can change quickly, especially with movement. My DH gets 2 to 3 nose bleeds a day when his BP is acting wonky, high for a bit, then normal, then high again. We have a BP machine at home so he's able to better watch his readings. Usually when the bleeds start, he'll check his BP and sure enough, it'll be high. His bleeds are also worse when he's under stress that day.
Good luck! I hope you find out the cause.

I had recurrent nose bleeds a few years ago. We had a period of extremely low humidity and my theory was that was what triggered them, so I used pressure and ice, tried not to blow my nose and waited them out. Went on for a few weeks. Reading online I remember that an option would have been to have an ear, nose, throat doctor seal the leaking blood vessel (like cauterization). I was only having them maybe once a day and do not work so I decided to wait and see, which worked for me, but with the frequency of 3 to 5 a day maybe a visit to an ENT doctor would be in order. Good luck!

Even if he doesn’t have allergies he can be affected by the dry air. My mom gets horrible nose bleeds in the winter and spring from dry air. She uses Ocean nose spray and even puts coconut oil on qtips to coat the inside of her nose as best she can. It helps a bit.

If he is on blood thinners that might also be the cause of it.

The thing that helped with me is to keep my nostrils moist by using a q-tip to run some Vaseline around the inside of my nostrils. I do it twice a day, especially in winter.

I would go to the Dr. Do you know what his platelet count is? I had a lot of unexplained bleeding because my platelet count was very low.

Drink the hot part of jello. For some reason this works.

I’d suggest going to an ENT. DS gets frequent nose bleeds. We’ve seen an ENT. ENT says he has blood vessels very close to the surface. Because of that it doesn’t take much irritation for a bleed to start. He had 1 nostril chemically cauterized. If/when it starts bleeding often again he will most likely have it cauteriazed under sedation. The other side isn’t as bad but still sensitive to dry air. The ENT recommends (& gives us free at appointments!) Ponaris. It is WONDERFUL! Using it reguarllly makes a huge difference.

If the air is really dry in your house it can cause nosebleeds. We run humidifiers in the bedrooms at night and it seems to help quite a bit with that.

Not a tip for prevention, but it does help once the bleeding starts...
Take a small corner of paper and fold it into a small square. Place it under the top lip up towards the nose and apply pressure. It basically closes off the source of the blood for the nosebleed. My dad taught me this years ago and it has always worked.

I get them in the winter and with the heat on...a small amount of bacitracin on a q tip swabbed in each nostril helps me. I would be concerned about the number and frequency of the nosebleeds and agree an ENT may be the best bet. Good luck!

My DS used to get them ALL THE TIME. His Dr. recommended the nasal spray with xylitol as it is less drying than straight saline. SprayI think he used to put Aquaphor around his nose as well. I would also look at the humidity as it seemed to be worse in Winter. Is it always the same nostril? Does it last long? We were mere minutes from a visit to urgent care once because it wouldn't stop. Once when I was young I had to have something cauterized inside my nose to get one to stop.

I'm assuming when he stopped at the Dr for a blood pressure check, he didn't see a doctor. He needs to make an appointment to be seen by his doctor.

Is he on a blood thinner?
For an acute nosebleed I give patients two squirts of Afrin up each nostril. Try to stop the bleeding by keeping the chin to the chest and pinching the nose just below where you feel the boney part of the nose. This elongates the vessels in the back of the neck that supply blood to the nose. You can put an ice pack on the back of the neck too.
If it doesn't stop in an hour and the Afrin doesn't work, he may need to run down to the ER.

He needs more than a blood pressure check! It's time to be seen by the physician. This is new onset of unexplained nose bleeds. While it is possible it is just a vessel that needs cautery or dry air, there are other possibilities.

this sinus cancer survivor say get him to the doc. It's probably cold air- or dry membranes but he needs to be seen by an ENT. He could just have something that needs to be cauterized and easily fixed. But he needs to go. Please.

Thanks everyone! We’ve made it 15 hours since the last nosebleed so hoping it’s calming down
He does have an appointment with his Dr on Monday, and I’m making him keep it. I feel like it’s BP related, but I’m not a Doctor, nor do I play one on TV, so what do I know?
Appreciate all the suggestions!
